Thu Jul 4 201301:56Jeremy Guthrie gets charged with five runs
Jeremy Guthrie was charged with five runs in 6 1/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Indians.
That doesn't tell anywhere near the whole story. The first three runs came on the inside-the-park homer on which Alex Gordon got hurt. That ball, hit by Jason Kipnis, probably should have been caught. Then, in the seventh, the lights suddenly went out at Kauffman Stadium, resulting in a 12-minute delay. Guthrie, thrown off his rhythm, walked back-to-back batters afterwards and was pulled. The two runners came around to score off Will Smith. Under different circumstances, Guthrie's ERA would have gone down tonight. Instead, it increased.

Sun Jun 30 201310:00Jeremy Guthrie expected to make next start
Jeremy Guthrie (hand) is expected to be ready to make his scheduled start on Wednesday.
Guthrie was hit on the pitching hand by a comebacker during his last outing, but he said Saturday that the hand was feeling much better. "It's good," he said. "The swelling has gone down, and I'm able to play catch." The right-hander will get the Indians on Wednesday.

Fri Jun 21 201323:55Guthrie gives up six runs in loss
Jeremy Guthrie was chased for six runs in just 2 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the White Sox.
Guthrie really labored, allowing five hits and three walks while notching just one strikeout. It was the first time he had pitched fewer than five innings in a start this season. The veteran right-hander is missing fewer bats than ever before and has always been homer-prone, which is a troubling combination for fantasy owners. He'll face the Twins next week in Minnesota.

Tue Jun 11 201300:19Jeremy Guthrie picks up win against Tigers
Jeremy Guthrie held the Tigers to two runs in 6 1/3 innings and the Royals bullpen did the rest Monday in a 3-2 victory.
Guthrie gave up a homer to Miguel Cabrera, but that happens to everyone. The Tigers couldn't do any other damage, even though Guthrie finish the night with no strikeouts, three walks and a HBP. He improved to 7-3 with a 3.60 ERA.

Wed Jun 5 201323:48Guthrie gets 6th win, Royals defeat Twins 4-1
Jeremy Guthrie allowed one run over six innings in the Royals' 4-1 win over the Twins on Wednesday.
The right-hander hadn't won since May 9 but kept the Twins under wraps on Wednesday, allowing one run on six hits. Guthrie moved to 6-3 with the win and owns a 3.66 ERA through 12 starts. He'll next get the Tigers on Monday.

Sat May 25 201317:11Jeremy Guthrie suffers third straight loss
Jeremy Guthrie gave up seven runs (six earned) over seven innings in Saturday's loss to the Angels.
It was an odd outing for Guthrie, who fell behind in the fourth inning due to an error and an RBI ground out and didn't give up his first hit until Hank Conger connected for a solo homer in the sixth. Josh Hamilton launched a solo shot of his own one inning later while the Angels broke through with four runs in the eighth. After posting a 2.28 ERA over his first seven starts, Guthrie has a 7.91 ERA over his last three outings. He'll hope to turn things around next week against the Cardinals, but it isn't a promising matchup for fantasy purposes.

Mon May 20 201323:44Jeremy Guthrie gives up six runs to Astros
Jeremy Guthrie took a second straight loss after allowing six runs in five innings Monday against the Astros.
Well, that's disappointing. Guthrie allowed seven homers in his first seven starts, going 5-0 with a 2.28 ERA. In his last two, he's allowed six homers, while also striking out just two batters and walking six. Not that Guthrie was ever likely to maintain an ERA in the low-2.00s, but he has picked a surprising time to come apart, facing the dregs of the AL West (it was the Angels last time out). Mixed leaguers may want to move on, if not now then after his home start against the Angels this weekend.

Facing the Orioles for the first time in his career, Jeremy Guthrie allowed two runs -- one earned -- in six innings Thursday to move to 5-0 for the season.
Guthrie, who spent five seasons with the Baltimore before being traded after the 2011 campaign, outdueled Freddy Garcia to win a third straight start. The Royals are now 6-1 with him on the mound this season.

Sat May 4 201321:59Guthrie stymies White Sox for first shutout
Jeremy Guthrie tossed the first shutout of his career as the Royals beat the White Sox 2-0 on Saturday.
Guthrie has pitched more than 1,200 innings in the major leagues but had never blanked a team for nine frames until Saturday night. He scattered four hits, struck out three and issued just one walk while moving to 4-0 with a 2.40 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. The shine should wear off eventually, but he's a must-start right now in fantasy leagues.

Sun Apr 28 201317:03Jeremy Guthrie looks strong in win
Jeremy Guthrie tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings on Sunday afternoon in Kansas City as the Royals won the first half of a doubleheader against the Indians.
Guthrie was excellent, scattering six hits and three walks while striking out five. He is now 3-0 with a cool 3.06 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 24/10 K/BB ratio through 32 1/3 innings this season. The Rays are his next opponent.

Tue Apr 16 201321:55Guthrie strong yet again, but Royals lose
Jeremy Guthrie allowed only two solo home runs over seven innings, but the Royals lost to the Braves on Tuesday.
Is Guthrie for real? It's getting harder to ignore the 34-year-old after his most recent start. The right-hander now has a 3.20 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP through three starts, despite not getting the win his last time out. Home runs have been an issue -- he's now served up five in 19 2/3 innings this season -- but he's otherwise been very good. He's worth picking up in mixed leagues while he's going strong.

Tue Apr 9 201323:29Guthrie records second win vs. Twins
Jeremy Guthrie allowed four runs in 6 2/3 innings to get the win against the Twins on Tuesday.
Guthrie is now 2-0 on the young season with a 3.55 ERA. It wasn't the most dominant start -- Guthrie allowed three home runs to Twins batters -- but it got the job done. Unless the Royals skip a starter to keep him on regular rest, Guthrie's next start will come next Tuesday in Atlanta.

Thu Apr 4 201317:30Guthrie goes six innings in win over ChiSox
Jeremy Guthrie spun six innings of one-run ball in a 3-1 win over the White Sox on Thursday.
Guthrie limited the White Sox to just five singles and one walk while striking out nine. He also hit a batter. It was his most strikeouts in a start since September 14, 2011 as a member of the Orioles. We aren't expecting him to duplicate the 3.16 ERA he had with the Royals last season, but he should be a reliable option in AL-only leagues and a decent matchup play in deeper mixed formats.

Fri Mar 29 201318:24Guthrie goes four innings against Indians
Jeremy Guthrie yielded one run over four innings Friday against the Indians.
Guthrie allowed six hits while striking out one and walking none. He'll finish the spring with a 4.09 ERA in five appearances. After being inked to a three-year, $25 million contract over the winter, Guthrie is slated to start against the White Sox in the third game of the regular season. He doesn't offer much appeal outside of AL-only leagues.

Sun Mar 24 201321:38Guthrie shuts down White Sox in win
Jeremy Guthrie struck out seven while allowing two runs over six innings Sunday against the White Sox.
Guthrie has put together a respectable spring with a 4.50 ERA over his four appearances. He didn't allow any walks Sunday and threw 58 of 87 pitches for strikes. While Guthrie should be a decent starter for the Royals this season, his fantasy appeal is limited. Continue to view him as an AL-only option.

Tue Mar 19 201318:43Jeremy Guthrie decent vs. Rox
Jeremy Guthrie allowed three runs -- two earned -- over six innings against the Rockies Tuesday.
He permitted eight hits, walked one and struck out a pair. The owner of a 5.25 ERA this spring, Guthrie should be a decent starter for the Royals this season, but his fantasy appeal is limited.

Thu Mar 14 201318:59Jeremy Guthrie struggles Thursday
Jeremy Guthrie yielded two runs over four frames Thursday against the Indians.
He gave up five hits, walked two, struck out two and served up a home run to Lonnie Chisenhall. Guthrie has an ugly 6.00 ERA so far this spring, but the Royals won't be overly concerned about hit bottom line results.

Sat Mar 2 201317:56Guthrie allows two runs in spring start
Jeremy Guthrie allowed two earned runs in two innings Saturday in a Cactus League started against the Giants.
Guthrie yielded four hits, but he issued no walks and tallied two strikeouts. The veteran right-hander signed a three-year, $25 million contract with the Royals this winter and will slot in behind James Shields this summer in the Kansas City starting rotation.

Tue Nov 20 201211:23Royals ink Jeremy Guthrie to three-year deal
Royals signed RHP Jeremy Guthrie to a three-year contract.
Terms aren't yet available. The Royals were reportedly unwilling to offer more than two years, but they ultimately caved to keep him in the fold. Guthrie thrived after coming over from the Rockies in July, posting a 3.16 ERA and 56/19 K/BB ratio over 91 innings. He'll be at the front of the Royals' rotation next season along with recent acquisition Ervin Santana.
