Thu Mar 24 201120:52Young, Daniels hashed out issues this spring
Michael Young had a couple of sit-down meetings with Rangers GM Jon Daniels this winter.
Young made a trade request just before the start of spring training and the Rangers did their best to satisfy his wish, but they weren't able to find a taker and the two sides will now have to live peacefully. Daniels told MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan that the conversations were "productive" and that he no longer expects to trade the veteran infielder before the start of the regular season. Young will serve as a part-time designated hitter and first baseman for Texas.

Tue Mar 22 201105:09Phillies interested in Michael Young
The New York Daily News reported that the Phillies are "ready to make a pitch" for Michael Young.
There would be many obstacles to such a trade, including the Phillies' $160 million payroll and the Rangers' desire to receive good prospects in return. Philadelphia also just signed Luis Castillo as an insurance policy for Chase Utley. But Michael Young has significantly more upside than Castillo, meaning the two sides might be motivated enough to deal.

Sat Mar 19 201117:45Rangers would eat half of Young's deal
According to Yahoo's Tim Brown, the Rangers are willing to eat about half of the $48 million that Michael Young is owed over the next three years if they get top prospects in return for him.
Young at $8 million per year would be fairly attractive, but not if it comes at a steep price in terms of talent. No one appears to be seriously interested at the moment.

Thu Mar 17 201113:13Young having trouble adjusting to new role
Michael Young told Tim MacMahon of ESPN Dallas that he is having a tough time adjusting to his new role as a designated hitter/utility infielder.
"It's definitely tough to get in a rhythm, without a doubt," said Young. "If I was playing second every day, it'd be easier to get locked in. If I was playing third, it'd be easier to get locked in. It's definitely tough to bounce around, but I've had to kind of get accustomed to it this spring." He might be struggling with his new role, but it's hard to tell by the way he's swinging the bat. Young is batting .393 with two doubles, two triples and six RBI over his first 28 at-bats this spring.

Fri Mar 11 201123:26Report: D-backs trade for Young unlikely
The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro is "being told not to expect it to happen" regarding the Diamondbacks' possibly renewing their pursuit of Michael Young.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Thursday that the D-backs were revisiting a deal for Young, but as Piecoro points out, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for Arizona to go after him. Even if the Rangers eat a sizable portion of the $48 million still owed to him, a rebuilding D-backs team will still have to pay a lot for a guy entering his declining years. At this point, it would still be a shock if Young isn't a Ranger on Opening Day.

Wed Mar 9 201110:37Phils send scout to watch Michael Young?
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Phillies have sent their top scout Charlie Kerfeld to watch the Rangers and Michael Young.
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News says the Phillies have had a scout present at Rangers' games for the past few days, so it appears they are at least tracking Young, even though Heyman reports that they haven't had any conversations lately. The Phillies looked into Young in early February, but they might have a greater sense of urgency now that Chase Utley is a question mark for the early part of the season.

Sun Mar 6 201118:06Young has another big day
Michael Young picked up three of Texas' 15 hits against the Brewers on Sunday afternoon, driving in four runs in the process.
One of those hits was a triple. "The disgruntled one" is now hitting .571 through his first 14 at-bats this spring, and doing a mighty good job of showcasing himself to teams thinking about taking on his massive salary.

Fri Mar 4 201119:26Michael Young has yet to speak with GM
Rangers GM Jon Daniels admits that while he has exchanged "hellos" with Michael Young, he has not sat down to talk at length with his disgruntled player.
"Both Michael and I and others have elected not to air our dirty laundry," Daniels said. Young said upon arriving at spring training that he had no plans to speak with Daniels, and he's stuck by that statement. The bridge between the two is probably burned, but Young is a professional and should be able to perform fine this season even if he's not totally happy. A trade at this point has very little chance of happening.

Wed Feb 23 201111:30Young leaves camp for family matter
Michael Young will miss workouts at Rangers' camp on Thursday and Friday as he attends to a family matter.
Young should be back in time for when the Rangers kick off their exhibition schedule Sunday against the Royals. We haven't heard anything new on the trade front this week, so fantasy owners should continue to operate as if he will open the season in a designated hitter/backup infielder role.

Sun Feb 20 201114:00Young addresses teamates, vows no distraction
Michael Young spoke to his Ranger teammates before Sunday's full-squad workout.
Young promised that he wouldn't be a distraction. "He said what he wanted to say and moved on," manager Ron Washington said. Young still desires a trade, but has recently stated that he's flexible to playing multiple positions, including the outfield. The Rangers are trying to accommodate his trade request, but teams are justifiably reluctant to take on the $48 million remaining on Young's contract.

Sat Feb 19 201116:17Daniels sees closure with Young in camp
Both team president Nolan Ryan and GM Jon Daniels said Saturday that they expect Michael Young to be in the Rangers' Opening Day lineup against the Red Sox.
"I look at it as some level of closure today," Daniels said after Young reported to camp. It's believed Young still desires a trade, but the Rangers may move forward with him even if he isn't entirely satisfied with his role.

Sat Feb 19 201114:44Michael Young won't comment on trade request
Michael Young arrived at Rangers camp Saturday but wouldn't comment on whether he would consider rescinding his trade request, saying he has no plans to talk to GM Jon Daniels.
Young admitted that there were "situations about this offseason that pissed me off," but he said he won't talk about a trade because he doesn't want to be a distraction to the team. He also said he'd be willing to play the outfield, which is ironic given that the presumption is that the team constantly moving him around had a big reason impact on why he wanted to be traded. At this point, it looks almost certain that he'll break camp as a member of the Rangers.

Fri Feb 18 201119:51Michael Young expected to report Saturday
Michael Young is expected to report to Rangers camp Saturday.
With a trade looking very unlikely this point, Young has no choice but to put in his time in the Cactus League while trying to keep from being a distraction. By all accounts he's a pro's pro, so we don't anticipate any problems, but we don't envision he and GM Jon Daniels going out for cocktails anytime soon.

Fri Feb 18 201118:11Report: Marlins have no interest in Young
Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports that the Marlins have no interest in Michael Young.
It's looking more and more likely by the day that Young remains in Texas. They're surely still willing to deal him, but, not surprisingly, don't seem to have interest in picking up as much of his contract as potential trade partners are wanting them to. Despite obviously not being very happy, Young's fantasy value should remain pretty steady with the Rangers, as he'll be able to find regular at-bats at first base and DH.

Wed Feb 16 201117:31Rangers moving forward with Michael Young
Rangers GM Jon Daniels said Wednesday that the team is now planning on moving forward with Michael Young.
Young requested a trade away from Texas a couple of weeks ago and the Rangers tried to satisfy that request, but they could not find any takers because of the three years and $48 million remaining on the infielder's tab. "We're preparing for Michael to be on the club," said Daniels. "We have to prepare for him to be on the club. In all our meetings, everything we're setting up, the workouts and stuff, are based on that. We're planning on him being on the team." Young should be able to find time at designated hitter and first base this season.

Wed Feb 16 201113:44Talks between Rangers, Rockies dormant
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that talks between the Rockies and Rangers regarding Michael Young are "dormant," but could be restarted if Texas is willing to cover more of his remaining salary.
The same could be said for any number of teams, really. Morosi adds that there's "nothing really going on" between the Rangers and Angels. Young, who is from Southern California, included the Angels as one of the eight places where he would accept a trade.

Wed Feb 16 201111:57Rangers evaluating potential deals for Young
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Rangers "have been evaluating" potential deals for Michael Young.
We're not quite sure what that means, but with Young expected to report to camp on Saturday, the Rangers haven't completely given up the idea of a trae. The main stumbling block to this point is that the Rangers are reluctant to cover a significant portion of the $48 million left on Young's contract. While their reluctance is understandable, it's highly unlikely that a deal gets done unless they soften their stance.

Tue Feb 15 201122:37Rox haven't talked about Young recently
According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies haven't talked to the Rangers about Michael Young recently.
The Rockies would be willing to listen if the Rangers call, but Renck writes that the odds of a deal are shrinking by the day. Of course, that could all change if the Rangers are willing to absorb more of his salary. They might even be able to get something of value in return. As of now, a deal looks unlikely with any team.

Tue Feb 15 201118:56D-Backs haven't spoken with Rangers recently
According to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, the Diamondbacks expressed interest in Michael Young "early on," but have not since.
It's not clear what timeline Gilbert is referring to, but we can assume from Ken Rosenthal's earlier report that talks likely hit a snag because of Young's contract. The Rangers continue to find themselves in a difficult spot because while they aren't interested in picking up most of Young's remaining salary, they want comparable talent in return.
