RHP Jamey Wright, who had a 12.15 ERA for the Dodgers this spring, announced his retirement Monday. Wright, 41, pitched in the majors from 1996-2014, compiling a 97-130 record with two saves and a 4.81 ERA in 719 games (248 starts). Wright was informed Saturday that he will not make the Rangers' roster, the Dallas Morning News reports. |
Wright was informed of the decision earlier in the week, but rather than elect for free agency, he's decided to continue pitching for Texas in spring training in hopes of catching the eye of another team. The 40-year-old was in camp on a minor league deal, and he fell behind a handful of younger pitchers competing for a roster spot. "If they change their minds, I'm still here," said Wright. "But, if not, I'm showcasing for all the other teams." Wright said he hopes to play one more season in the majors. |

Wright signed a minor league contract with the Rangers on Saturday that includes an invite to spring training. |
The 19-year veteran will return to Texas, where he spent the 2007-2008 seasons, after posting a 4.35 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 61 appearances with the Dodgers last year. Wright turned in much better numbers while with the Rays in 2013 (3.09 ERA, 1.20 WHIP), but he has just a 1.22 K/BB for his career and will have to beat out fellow non-roster invitees David Martinez, Ross Wolf, Juan Oviedo and Ross Ohlendorf for a bullpen spot in spring training. |

Wright is expected to throw roughly 50 pitches or three innings Sunday against the Cubs, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports. |
Wright is basically an emergency starter for manager Don Mattingly, and the expectations here are clearly low. If the 39-year-old pitches efficiently, there's a slight chance he could go longer, but he's not a high-percentage fantasy option under the current circumstances. |
Sat Sep 20 2014 | 17:09 | Wright will start Sunday's game against Cubs |
Wright will start Sunday's game against the Cubs, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports. |
Wright has served exclusively out of the bullpen for the Dodgers this season. He started one game for the Rays last season, but hadn't started a game in the majors since 2007 before that. He will get the opportunity Sunday, however, but will probably only pitch a few innings before the Dodgers go to the bullpen. |

Wright (4-3) gave up five runs on four hits in 0.1 innings against the Brewers as he took the loss on Friday. |
Things couldn't have been worse for Wright (3.83 ERA), as he was only able to retire one batter in the eighth inning. The Brewers exploded in the inning as Lyle Overbay erased a late-inning 2-0 lead the Dodgers held with a bases-clearing double. |

Wright tossed 2.1 scoreless innings on Wednesday against Atlanta and will see his role expanded down the stretch, the Dodgers' official site reports. |
Wright has been solid with a 3.05 ERA, and with Chris Perez on the DL and Brian Wilson unreliable, Wright could see a few more holds the rest of the way. |
Tue Dec 24 2013 | 14:52 | Dodgers sign RHP Wright to one-year deal |
Dodgers signed RHP Jamey Wright to a one-year contract. |
Terms of the contract aren't yet known, but Wright has landed his first major league contract since 2005. It's well deserved, as the 39-year-old owns a 3.40 ERA in 132 relief appearances over the past two seasons. |

No word yet on the terms involved, but he's likely to land his first major league contract since 2005. Wright, 39, posted a 3.09 ERA and 65/23 K/BB ratio over 70 innings of work with the Rays this past season. He previously pitched with the Dodgers in 2012. |

Mon Dec 9 2013 | 20:40 | Jamey Wright choosing between Rays, Dodgers |
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Jamey Wright has narrowed his choices down to the Rays and Dodgers. |
Wright apparently likes familiarity, as those are the last two teams he's pitched for. The 39-year-old hasn't signed a major league contract since 2005 but should get one this winter after posting a 3.40 ERA across 132 appearances over the last two seasons. |

Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports that the Dodgers are interested in bringing back Jamey Wright. |
Wright pitched well for the Dodgers in 2012, posting a 3.72 ERA in 66 appearances, before signing with the Rays last winter. The 39-year-old makes for a solid middle relief option who can generate tons of ground balls. |

Fri Nov 29 2013 | 23:24 | Rays could have interest in retaining Wright |
Bill Chastain of MLB.com believes that the Rays could have interest in retaining free agent Jamey Wright. |
That's provided that the 38-year-old right-hander even wants to continue pitching. He was a tremendous value for the Rays this season, earning just $900,000 while posting a 3.09 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 65/23 K/BB ratio over 70 innings of work. |

Sun Sep 1 2013 | 19:32 | Wright pulled in second inning of spot start |
Jamey Wright allowed one run on three hits over 1 2/3 innings in a loss Sunday against Oakland. |
He gave up two walks and had one strikeout. Wright was making his first start since 2007 and predictably struggled, forcing the Rays to go through six relievers in a losing effort. He'll move back to the bullpen with Matt Moore set to rejoin the Rays on Tuesday. |

Sun Sep 1 2013 | 00:34 | Jamey Wright to start for Rays on Sunday |
Jamey Wright will start for the Rays in Sunday afternoon's series finale against the Athletics. |
Wright owns a solid 2.97 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 50/20 K/BB ratio in 57 2/3 innings this season, but he hasn't pitched more than three frames in a single appearance and probably won't be able to go very long against the A's. He's not a recommended fantasy streamer. |

Jamey Wright has won a spot in the Rays' bullpen. |
Wright has a knack for making teams on minor league deals, so we never should have doubted him. The 38-year-old right-hander posted a 6.30 ERA and 3/3 K/BB ratio over 10 innings this spring and will operate in middle relief. |
