Mon Aug 7 202317:21Brett Baty Sent Down
The New York Mets optioned third baseman Brett Baty to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday. With Baty sent down amid his struggles at the plate, it will likely mean more playing time for Mark Vientos at the hot corner in Queens. The 23-year-old Baty is hitting just .216/.289/.331 with seven home runs, 27 RBI and 33 runs scored in 278 at-bats for the Mets in his second MLB season. He only saw action in 11 games in 2022. Since July 1, the young left-handed hitter has gone 13-for-87 (.149) with two home runs, three doubles, six RBI, 32 strikeouts, one stolen base and eight runs scored in 28 games (25 starts). Assuming he can figure some things out in the minors, Baty should return for the non-contending Mets in September.

Thu Jul 27 202314:58Brett Baty Re-Enters Starting Lineup Thursday
New York Mets infielder Brett Baty is back in the starting lineup Thursday afternoon against the Washington Nationals and right-hander Josiah Gray. Baty didn't start the Subway Series finale against the Yankees on Thursday but struck out in a pinch-hitting appearance after he struck out three times across five hitless plate appearances on Tuesday night. The 23-year-old is clearly struggling at the plate right now but hasn't hit much in the big leagues this season. Baty is sitting with a .230 average with seven home runs, two stolen bases, and a .643 OPS across 76 appearances on the season. He remains a dynasty league asset but can be safely set aside in redraft leagues.

Fri Jul 7 202318:11Brett Baty Remains Out On Friday
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the San Diego Padres. The left-handed slugger missed Thursday's contest due to left hamstring soreness. It sounds like Baty is being considered day-to-day right now. Honestly, it wouldn't be shocking to see the Mets give Baty a few more days off with the All-Star break next week. Luis Guillorme will cover third base and bat ninth versus right-hander Yu Darvish on Friday.

Thu Jul 6 202321:18Brett Baty Dealing With Hamstring Soreness
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty (hamstring) missed Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks due to hamstring soreness. According to Mets manager Buck Showalter, Baty might be available off the bench. The 23-year-old is considered day-to-day. His next chance to return to the lineup is Friday against the Padres. Baty is slashing .250/.319/.363 with five home runs, 21 RBI, and two stolen bases across 226 plate appearances in 2023. Luis Guillorme is batting ninth and will handle third base duties in Thursday's game. Guillorme should see an uptick in playing time while Baty is sidelined but is not on the fantasy radar after hitting .244 with a homer and seven RBI over 41 games in 2023.

Thu Jul 6 202318:44Brett Baty Absent From Thursday’s Lineup
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty is not seen in Thursday's lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Luis Guillorme will defend the hot corner and bat ninth against Tommy Henry. Baty has not impressed overall during his second big-league stint after a brief taste of the action late last season. In 2023, the 23-year-old is slashing a nondescript .250/.319/.363 with five home runs, 21 RBI, and two stolen bases across 204 at-bats. Baty's role in Queens should be safe for now with the Mets recently trading away Eduardo Escobar, but Ronny Mauricio is waiting patiently in the wings for a call-up.

Mon May 15 202314:00Brett Baty Sitting Against Lefty Monday
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty is not in the lineup on Monday against left-hander Patrick Corbin and the Washington Nationals. It's the third time in the last four games that Baty has started on the bench for the Mets against a southpaw. The 23-year-old is hitting better against lefties, though, than against righties so far in 2023. In 19 plate appearances against southpaws, he's gone 5-for-18 (.278) with a double and a solo home run while striking out only twice. Baty has struggled so far in May, going 8-for-45 (.178) with two doubles, a homer and four RBI in 13 games played. Eduardo Escobar will take his spot at the hot corner on Monday and will hit eight in the batting order against Corbin.

Fri May 5 202316:04Brett Baty Hitting Sixth Against Rockies
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty is back in the starting lineup on Friday and is starting at third base and batting sixth against Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (knee), who is making his 2023 debut. Baty is slowly rising up the Mets batting order as he continues to hit well in just 14 games in his second big-league season with the team. He has gone 14-for-45 (.311) with two doubles, two home runs, four RBI and five runs scored in 49 plate appearances. The 23-year-old sat out against a left-handed pitcher on Thursday, but he's been seeing more playing time against southpaws lately as well. Baty has lots of fantasy upside and has a very appealing matchup in his return to the lineup Friday.

Thu May 4 202312:19Brett Baty Out Of Lineup Against Lefty
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty is not in Thursday's starting lineup against the Detroit Tigers and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. Baty has performed nicely in his first 14 games with the Mets so far in 2023, hitting .311 (14-for-45) with two doubles, two home runs, four RBI and five runs scored, but he'll take a seat in this one for a day of rest against a southpaw. Fantasy managers need to put him on their benches. With Baty out, Eduardo Escobar will draw the start at the hot corner and hit eighth against Rodriguez. Escobar is hitting just .172 (10-for-58) in the early going with two doubles, a triple, three home runs and nine RBI in 18 games played, and he won't have much DFS appeal in the eight-hole.

Fri Apr 28 202316:29Brett Baty, Francisco Alvarez Both Playing Friday
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty and catcher Francisco Alvarez (head) are both in the starting lineup on Friday against Atlanta Braves left-hander Max Fried. Baty and Alvarez are the team's top-two prospects, according to MLB Pipeline. This will be Baty's first big-league start against a southpaw, but he's earned more playing time at third base by going 9-for-28 (.321) with a double, home run and three RBI in his nine games played. Baty should eventually be New York's everyday third baseman, and he needs to be rostered everywhere. Alvarez is catching and hitting ninth after taking a few swings to the head in Thursday's game. The 21-year-old has so far struggled at the plate, hitting .176 (6-for-34) with a homer and two RBI in his first 11 games in 2023.

Wed Apr 26 202314:54Brett Baty On The Bench Wednesday
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty is not in Wednesday's starting lineup against the Washington Nationals and left-hander MacKenzie Gore. Baty was a no-brainer to be promoted to the big leagues as he was clobbering Triple-A pitching while veteran third baseman Eduardo Escobar was simultaneously struggling in the big leagues. However, Baty is off to a slow start in his return to the bigs. The 23-year-old is hitting just .250 without a homer and one double across 25 trips to the plate. The youngster has also struck out in 32% of his plate appearances to this point. Baty hit .400 with five HR, two doubles, and a 1.386 OPS across nine games at Triple-A prior to his big-league promotion.

Tue Apr 18 202321:47Brett Baty Out, Eduardo Escobar In For Tuesday's Contest
The New York Mets are keeping third baseman Brett Baty on the bench to start Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The top prospect, fresh from the minors, made his Major League debut on Monday, going 1-for-4 with a single. Southpaw Clayton Kershaw is on the mound for the Dodgers, so switch hitter Eduardo Escobar will play third base instead and bat eighth. The 34-year-old is only batting .125 with one homer over 14 games this season. However, Escobar slashed .259/.299/.519 against lefties in 2022, so fantasy managers might want to take a chance on him.

Sun Apr 16 202313:30Brett Baty To Be Called Up By The Mets
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty is getting the call-up from Triple-A Syracuse, according to Andy Martino of SNY. There is no news on when the call-up is happening as the Mets have not officially announced anything at the time of this post but this is a move that was expected to happen sooner than later. The 23-year-old Baty is slashing .400/.500/.886 with five home runs, 15 RBI, and two steals over 35 at-bats with Triple-A Syracuse this season. The young third baseman is worth rostering in all fantasy formats. Fantasy managers should take a gamble on the young third baseman due above-average power.

Wed Apr 5 202311:39Brett Baty Receives Good News On Thumb
New York Mets third base prospect Brett Baty (thumb) received good news regarding his thumb on Wednesday. Baty underwent testing after leaving Tuesday's contest and it was revealed that there was no structural damage. The official diagnosis is right thumb inflammation and he is being listed as day-to-day. It's a huge sigh of relief for Baty, Mets fans and fantasy managers. The 23-year-old has been off to a white-hot start at the plate with a .400 batting average to go along with two homers, five RBI and two stolen bases over his first 15 at-bats. Although he had a strong showing in spring, the Mets continue to deploy veteran Eduardo Escobar at third base. Escobar was ice-cold in Spring Training and has been off to a sluggish start in 2023, so it would be a major upset if Baty isn't playing third base for the Mets sooner than later. He should be monitored in all formats.

Tue Apr 4 202322:25Brett Baty Going For Tests On His Thumb
New York Mets third base prospect Brett Baty (thumb) left Triple-A Syracuse's game early on Tuesday with right thumb soreness after a swing. He will get tests on his thumb done on Wednesday, so fantasy managers will want to check back then for more information. The 23-year-old nearly made the Opening Day roster out of spring training, but he could be dealing with a serious injury. Baty had surgery for a torn ligament in the same thumb last September, so if this is related, it could require an extended absence. The team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, is still worth stashing in dynasty/keeper leagues, but this could be a setback for the promising young third baseman. In his first three games with Syracuse, Baty had gone 5-for-14 (.357) with a double, two home runs, five RBI, four runs and a steal.

Tue Apr 4 202316:50Brett Baty Injures Hand In Triple-A Game
New York Mets third base prospect Brett Baty (hand) left Triple-A Syracuse's game early on Tuesday after having his right hand looked at by a trainer following a swing. The Mets and fantasy managers that have Baty stashed in dynasty/keeper leagues are hoping it's nothing serious, as the 23-year-old came into Tuesday's game hitting .357 (5-for-14) with a double, two home runs, five RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base in the first three games in the minors. Check back for an update on Baty's injury and a potential timetable for when he might be able to return to action. Baty is the team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and will surely see time in the big leagues in 2023, especially if third baseman Eduardo Escobar continues to struggle at the plate.

Sun Apr 2 202312:12Brett Baty Has Huge Game For Triple-A Syracuse
New York Mets third base prospect Brett Baty had a huge game on Saturday for Triple-A Syracuse. The 23-year-old went 4-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI and swiped a bag in the impressive performance. One of his homers was a grand slam. Baty significantly outperformed third baseman Eduardo Escobar in Spring Training, but the Mets opted to go with the veteran for Opening Day. Escobar will need to show some signs of life to open the season or Baty may force the Mets hand. Even though it was just one game, Baty is beating on the door to help the Mets. Managers should expect Baty to be wearing the blue and orange at some point this season and he can be difference maker when he does.

Sat Mar 25 202323:22Brett Baty Optioned To Triple-A
Despite an impressive performance in spring training, New York Mets top prospect Brett Baty was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. Baty is the No. 2 prospect in the Mets organization and ranks 21st in all of baseball. His bat was on full display this spring after hitting his way to a .885 OPS. Baty slashed .325/.460/.425 and drove in six RBI along with one homer. Despite proving that he's capable of thriving in a major-league setting, the Mets opted to continue his development in the minors. Baty played just six games at Triple-A Syracuse last season and the Mets want him to gain some experience at a higher level before turning full pro. If he turns some heads down in Syracuse, it could stir an early call-up to the big leagues.

Wed Mar 22 202310:23Brett Baty Survives Another Round Of Cuts
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty survived another round of cuts on Wednesday and will remain in camp with the team. The Mets demoted top prospect, Francisco Alvarez, but Baty's strong spring has made the team strongly consider him entering Opening Day. The 23-year-old has been white-hot this spring with a .342 batting average to go along with one homer, seven runs, five RBI and a pair of stolen bases. With projected third baseman Eduardo Escobar starting to get reps in the outfield, there seems to be a true chance that he could switch to a utility role with Baty manning the hot corner. Baty is already on the 40-man roster and that could work in his favor when it comes down to final cuts. With an ability to hit for both contact and power, Baty could be a valuable late-round piece in upcoming redraft drafts. In dynasty leagues, Baty should already be rostered. Managers should continue to monitor his status with Opening Day approaching and any indication that he will make the team will surely rise his ADP.

Mon Mar 13 202312:50Brett Baty Enjoying Red-Hot Spring
New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty is raking this spring in his bid for an Opening Day roster spot. Baty has hit one home run with a double on his ledger, but he's also hitting a hefty .458 alongside a 1.177 OPS across 24 spring at-bats. The 23-year-old also has four walks against six strikeouts while collecting two stolen bases across 12 Grapefruit League contests. Baty debuted with the Mets in the 2022 season but struggled to a .184 batting average with two homers across 42 trips to the plate. He spent the bulk of last season at the Double-A level, posting a robust .312/.406/.544 slash line with 19 homers across 89 games. He's competing with veteran Eduardo Escobar for reps at third base, but he could also see time at designated hitter if he can stay hot entering the 2023 campaign.

Fri Jan 20 202313:02Mets Don't Want To Deal Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty
The New York Mets have been big spenders, but they also remain committed to the idea of building from within long term. Top prospects Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty don't seem to have a very good chance to make this year's Opening Day roster, but the team is reluctant to trade them. The Miami Marlins have tried multiple times to acquire Baty and were prepared to offer one of their young starters in return. The Marlins came close to landing Brendan Rodgers from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for starter Edward Cabrera, but it ultimately fell through. Alvarez and Baty are both highly attractive in dynasty/keeper leagues and could also be worth stashing in deep mixed leagues in 2023. Alvarez has the better shot to crack the Opening Day roster because of his ability to play both catcher and outfield.
