Ryan Vogelsong took the no-decision, allowing four runs over 6 1/3 innings in Thursday's win over the Cardinals.
Vogelsong entered Thursday's outing with quality starts in five of his last six outings. He struggled against the Cardinals, allowing seven hits along with three walks while striking out five. Now with a 3.52 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP, he'll go after his fourth win in his next start against the Reds on the road.

Sun May 25 201401:12Ryan Vogelsong goes 6 2/3 scoreless
Ryan Vogelsong blanked the Twins for 6 2/3 innings, striking out seven, to pick up a win on Saturday.
Vogelsong looked done two months ago. He looked pretty well done one more ago. Yet now he's allowed a total of six runs in his last six starts, lowering his ERA from 7.71 to 3.20. We still don't trust him entirely, but there isn't more than one or two guys pitching better than he is right now.

Sun May 18 201419:34Vogelsong masterful in win over the D'Backs
Ryan Vogelsong earned the win with seven shutout innings against the Marlins as the Giants went on to win 4-1 on Sunday.
The Marlins, without Giancarlo Stanton in the lineup, weren't able to get much going offensively against Vogelsong. The right-hander allowed only five hits and a walk while striking out six, lowering his ERA to 3.62. Vogelsong will go for his third win next weekend against the Twins at home.

Sat May 3 201422:12Vogelsong goes six strong to beat Braves
Ryan Vogelsong tossed six innings of one-run ball in the Giants' defeat of the Braves on Saturday.
It was the second straight dominant outing for Vogelsong, who yielded just two hits over seven shutout innings last Sunday against the Indians. He struck out six Atlanta hitters on Saturday and came away with his first win of 2014. The right-hander will face the Dodgers in Los Angeles next. It's not a good fantasy matchup.

Sun Apr 27 201420:34Vogelsong allows two hits over seven Sunday
Ryan Vogelsong allowed just two hits over seven shutout innings but took a no-decision against the Indians on Sunday.
Vogelsong was unlucky not to earn his first win of the year, as Yan Gomes took Santiago Casilla deep to tie the game after Vogelsong exited. During his outing, the right-hander allowed just two singles to Michael Bourn and also walked two on the afternoon. He also struck out six. He'll seek his first win when he travels to face the Braves on Saturday.

Tue Apr 22 201400:51Ryan Vogelsong gives up five runs
Ryan Vogelsong was lit up for five runs in 1 1/3 innings by the Rockies in Coors Field on Monday.
Vogelsong has given the Giants one decent start in four tries. He has a 7.71 ERA right now, he was brutal this spring and he's coming off a year in which he had a 5.73 ERA. It's apparent to us that the team would be better off starting Yusmeiro Petit in his spot. We don't expect the switch to come right away, but one more ugly start might do it.

Thu Apr 17 201401:30SP Vogelsong bounces back with quality start
Ryan Vogelsong got back on track against the Dodgers on Wednesday, giving up one run over six innings in a no-decision.
The 36-year-old right-hander struck out a pair and walked two more. Not much could have been reasonably expected of Vogelsong after he posted an ugly 5.73 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 67/38 K/BB ratio over 103 2/3 innings last summer, and he pitched even worse over his first two starts this season (8.00 ERA, 1.89 WHIP, and a .350 opponent's batting average). Because of those reasons, he's probably going to rest easy tonight. Fantasy owners shouldn't be quick to buy, here: Vogelsong has a tough matchup in Colorado on Monday.

Fri Apr 11 201402:29SP Vogelsong highly shaky in no-decision
Ryan Vogelsong wasn't impressive on Thursday, giving up four runs on seven hits over five innings in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.
He gave up a walk and struck out five. Vogelsong exits his first two starts of 2014 with ugly numbers all over: 8.00 ERA, 1.89 WHIP, and a .350 opponent's batting average. He should be considered radioactive to mixed league lineups next week against the Dodgers, against whom he surrendered four runs on seven hits over four innings last Friday.

Fri Mar 28 201418:46Vogelsong scratched for fear of rain Saturday
Ryan Vogelsong was scratched from his scheduled Saturday start for fear the game will be rained out.
The scratch had nothing to do with Vogelsong's health, so that's good. The team just wants him to be able to get his work in, so the right-hander will throw in a minor league game in Arizona instead. Vogelsong is penciled into the rotation but a poor spring leaves him on very thin ice to start the year.

Mon Mar 24 201418:34Vogelsong allows four runs against Angels
Ryan Vogelsong allowed four runs in four innings in his start against the Angels on Monday.
Vogelsong allowed eight hits and walked two while striking out two. He now has a 9.00 ERA on the spring, a result of poor results in three out of his last four outings. The combination of his poor 2013 showing, his unfavorable results this spring, and reports of diminished velocity should be more than enough to scare fantasy owners away.

Tue Mar 18 201423:45Ryan Vogelsong blasted by Indians
Ryan Vogelsong was rocked for nine runs -- eight earned -- on 11 hits over 2 2/3 innings versus the Indians Tuesday.
Vogelsong allowed a solo homer to Yan Gomes in the second and then a three-run shot to Jeff Francoeur as part of a seven-run third inning. The right-hander's velocity has been down this spring, but he pitched well his previous time out. Those in mixed leagues should avoid the right-hander.

Thu Mar 13 201422:41Ryan Vogelsong holds Rangers in check
Ryan Vogelsong held the Rangers to one run on three hits and a walk over four innings Thursday.
The right-hander walked one and struck out a pair. Vogelsong allowed an opposite-field shot to Shin-Soo Choo in the third inning but otherwise pitched quite well. He lowered his Cactus League ERA from 7.36 to 5.56 with the strong showing.

Sat Mar 8 201420:33Ryan Vogelsong struggles in loss to Mariners
Ryan Vogelsong struggled in Saturday's Cactus League loss to the Mariners, allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits in only 2 1/3 innings.
Vogelsong struck out a pair and walked one in the game. The Mariners jumped all over him with four runs in the first inning, highlighted by homers from Brad Miller and Michael Saunders. He's still the favorite to secure the final spot in the Giants rotation, but more outings like this could change that.

Tue Mar 4 201417:04Vogelsong allows a run vs. Rockies on Tuesday
Ryan Vogelsong allowed a run on three hits against the Rockies on Tuesday.
Vogelsong allowed the one run on a two-out double in the sixth inning. He is competing for a spot at the back of the Giants' starting rotation. His chief competition is Yusmeiro Petit, but Petit has struggled thus far to start the spring.

Fri Nov 29 201316:43Giants bring back Vogelsong for one year
Giants re-signed RHP Ryan Vogelsong to a one-year contract.
The San Francisco Chronicle's Hank Shulman is hearing that the guarantee is about $5 million, which is a bit higher than expected. This probably rules the Giants out on Bronson Arroyo and Phil Hughes. Vogelsong will round out a rotation that also includes Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner, Tim Lincecum and Tim Hudson, leaving late-season surprise Yusmeiro Petit out in the cold.

Thu Nov 28 201316:14Vogelsong's deal likely worth at least $3M
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants likely won't get a deal done with Ryan Vogelsong until next week.
Schulman reported early Thursday that the Giants were "moving toward a deal to re-sign" Vogelsong, but it sounds like it won't be finalized until after the holiday weekend. The Giants declined a $6.5 million club option on Vogelsong following the season, but his new deal is expected to be for at least $3 million guaranteed.

Thu Nov 28 201308:58Giants 'moving toward deal' with Vogelsong
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants "are moving toward a deal to re-sign" free agent right-hander Ryan Vogelsong.
The Giants declined a $6.5 million club option for Vogelsong in early November and are now trying to bring him back at a lesser rate. The 36-year-old posted a disappointing 5.73 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 67/38 K/BB ratio in 103 2/3 innings this past summer. The Giants currently have four locked-in starters between Madison Bumgarner, Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum and Tim Hudson.

Tue Nov 19 201314:46Giants remain in touch with Vogelsong
Giants general manager Brian Sabean said Tuesday that the club remains in touch with free agent right-hander Ryan Vogelsong.
Sabean said the club has "other feelers" out there, so they are considering alternative starters. However, if the club is able to re-sign Vogelsong, they will be done with the rotation. The Giants declined a $6.5 million option on Vogelsong earlier this month after he posted a 5.73 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 67/38 K/BB ratio over 103 2/3 innings this past season.

Sun Nov 3 201317:03Giants decline option on Ryan Vogelsong
Giants declined Ryan Vogelsong's $6.5 million option for the 2014 season.
The Giants have made it clear that they would like to have him back next season, but at a smaller guaranteed salary, perhaps with incentives based on games started or innings pitched. The 36-year-old is coming off a disappointing and injury-plagued season in which he posted a 5.73 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 67/38 K/BB ratio over 103 2/3 innings.

Sat Sep 28 201301:47Ryan Vogelsong wins in season finale
Ryan Vogelsong allowed two runs over six innings Friday in the Giants' 7-3 defeat of the Padres.
Vogelsong improved from 2-4 with a 7.19 ERA in nine starts pre-injury to 2-2 with a 4.55 ERA in 10 outings after returning from a fractured hand. The Giants now have to decide whether to exercise his $6.5 million option or to let him join fellow starters Tim Lincecum and Barry Zito in free agency. They may pass and wait to see if he comes cheaper.
