Solis tossed two shutout innings in his major league debut on Thursday, allowing one hit and striking out one. |
The left-hander will likely head back to the minors pretty quickly, but at least Solis got a chance to make a strong impression on the Nats' coaching staff. |

Solis was recalled from Double-A Harrisburg on Wednesday. |
If Solis were to appear in a game with the Nationals, it would be his major league debut. He split 2014 between Low-A and Double-A, and has been good at Double-A Harrisburg so far this season (2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP). He'll provide the club with an extra arm out of the bullpen, but will likely be limited to low-leverage situations. |

Solis has been optioned to Double-A Harrisburg. |
Health has been a major issue for Solis throughout the past few seasons, which has ultimately prevented him from breaking through and holding onto a role with the Nats. If he's healthy, Solis may profile more effectively as a reliever at this stage of his career. |
Tue Jun 3 2014 | 18:59 | Sammy Solis shut down with sore elbow |
Nationals pitching prospect Sammy Solis has been shut down with left elbow discomfort. |
Solis has missed most of the season with a back injury and was blasted for eight earned runs over 3 1/3 innings in his lone start for Double-A Harrisburg last week. The former second-round pick underwent Tommy John surgery in 2012, but it's not clear at this point how serious his current elbow injury is. |

Sammy Solis (back) felt good while throwing a bullpen session Thursday. |
Solis hasn't pitched in a game since March 2 because of back spasms, but it sounds like he's close to returning. The 25-year-old made it back from Tommy John surgery last season and posted a 3.32 ERA and 43/19 K/BB ratio over 59 2/3 innings between rookie ball and High-A Potomac. He could work his way to the majors before long. |
