Sat May 18 201316:28Saunders gives up four runs in no-decision
Joe Saunders gave up four runs in 5 1/3 innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Indians.
Saunders tied a season-high by giving up 11 hits, including a solo homer by Mark Reynolds. He now has an 11.25 ERA in five starts on the road this season compared to a 0.94 ERA in four starts at home. That pretty much says it all.

Sun May 12 201319:29Joe Saunders picks up third win of season
Joe Saunders gave up just one run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings Sunday against the Athletics.
It was a solid bounceback effort from Saunders, who allowed seven earned runs over five innings in his last outing. He managed to limit the A's to just two extra-base hits, three walks, and had six strikeouts. Saunders is good for the occasional quality start, but is still no more than AL-only option.

Sun May 5 201315:42Saunders allows seven runs in loss to TOR
Joe Saunders was shelled for seven earned runs over five innings Sunday in a loss to the Blue Jays.
Saunders twirled a complete game against the Orioles in his last start but was dreadful on Sunday afternoon in Toronto. The Jays tagged him for nine hits -- including two dingers -- and then beat up reliever Hector Noesi for three more runs. Saunders is now 2-4 with a 6.15 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. He is obviously not a fantasy option.

Tue Apr 30 201300:41M's Saunders goes the distance vs. Orioles
Facing his former team, Joe Saunders spun a complete game Monday, holding the Orioles to two runs on just four hits and a walk in a 6-2 victory.
Saunders served up a two-run shot to Matt Wieters in the fourth, but that was all the Orioles could muster off the left-hander. He needed just 105 pitches to register his eighth career complete game. Saunders entered the contest with a 6.33 ERA and 1.78 WHIP, so it was a much-needed effort from the lefty. He'll try to keep the momentum going this weekend in Toronto.

Wed Apr 24 201317:12Joe Saunders lit up for eight runs
Joe Saunders was tagged for eight runs in five innings by the Astros in a loss Wednesday.
After posting a 2.08 ERA in his first three starts, Saunders has given up 15 runs in the last two. He'll keep his rotation spot, but he never figured to be much of an asset in AL-only leagues.

Fri Apr 19 201323:24Joe Saunders hammered in loss to Rangers
Joe Saunders was hammered in Friday's loss to the Rangers, allowing seven runs on nine hits over his 4 2/3 innings of work.
Saunders also walked three without recording a strikeout. Jeff Baker got the Rangers on the board with a solo homer in the second inning, they then erupted for six runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run triple by Craig Gentry. Though Saunders had pitched well through his first two starts, he's a matchup play at best and should've been avoided for a tough road outing in Arlington. He'll look to get back on track when he takes on the Astros in Houston on Wednesday.

Tue Apr 9 201301:05Saunders holds down Astros
Joe Saunders spun 6 1/3 scoreless innings in Monday's 3-0 victory over the Astros.
He gave up six singles, walked one and punched out five batters. Saunders struggled in spring training and in his first start of the season, but it's nothing the Astros' lineup couldn't cure. He'll have a much tougher challenge this weekend against the Rangers.

Thu Apr 4 201301:10Joe Saunders gives up four runs to A's
Joe Saunders lost his Mariners debut after allowing four runs in four innings Wednesday against the A's.
Saunders walked four and threw just 48 of his 88 pitches for strikes, so he obviously wasn't on top of his game tonight. Considering that he wasn't any good in spring training either, it's worth wondering if he might be covering up an injury of some sort.

Sun Mar 24 201319:26Saunders lit up again in loss to D-Backs
Joe Saunders allowed eight runs on seven hits over five innings in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
He walked four and had just two strikeouts. Saunders now has a 11.57 ERA over his four appearances this spring and should continue to be viewed as an AL-only option. The Mariners are hoping Saunders can be a solid back-end starter after signing him to a one-year, $6.5 million deal this offseason.

Thu Mar 14 201319:15Joe Saunders rocked on Thursday
Joe Saunders was lit up for seven runs -- five earned -- on nine hits and a walk over just 3 2/3 innings versus the Reds Thursday.
He struck out two. Saunders now has a 9.45 ERA over his three appearances this spring, but the Mariners won't be worried about it. The left-hander should be a solo back-end starter again in 2013.

Tue Feb 12 201319:29Joe Saunders officially signs with M's
Mariners signed LHP Joe Saunders to a one-year, $6.5 million contract.
The southpaw could make an additional $1 million through incentives. Saunders posted a 4.07 ERA and 112/39 K/BB ratio over 174 2/3 innings last season between the Diamondbacks and Orioles. The fences coming in at Safeco won't help him, but he should continue to be a solid back-end starter with Seattle.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Joe Saunders' one-year deal with the Mariners is worth $6.5 million.
Saunders could make an additional $1 million with incentives. The deal includes a mutual option for 2014. Fri Feb 8 201315:26Joe Saunders to get $7M from Mariners
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Joe Saunders' deal with the Mariners is for $7 million.
Heyman adds that the left-hander can earn more through incentives. The deal has yet to officially be announced, but that should come soon. Saunders, 31, had a 4.07 ERA in 28 starts last season between the Orioles and Diamondbacks.

Thu Feb 7 201319:31Mariners scoop up Saunders on one-year deal
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Mariners are in agreement on a one-year deal with Joe Saunders, pending a physical.
The financial details aren't yet known. It's a little surprising that Saunders had to wind up settling for a one-year deal given that a handful of teams were interested in him, but perhaps the M's offered a higher AAV. Saunders is a similar pitcher to Jason Vargas, the guy he's essentially replacing, and should give Seattle a solid back-end guy. The fences coming in at Safeco won't help him, though.

Fri Jan 25 201316:25Twins waiting to hear back from Joe Saunders
Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities, the Twins are waiting to hear back from free agent left-hander Joe Saunders.
The Twins would prefer to sign Saunders to a one-year deal, but they could be willing to go to two years. The Orioles and Mets have also been mentioned as possible landing spots, but since each club signed a starting pitcher this week, the Twins might be the last team standing. The 31-year-old left-hander had a 4.07 ERA in 28 starts last season between the Orioles and Diamondbacks.

Saunders has been holding out for a three-year deal this offseason, but he may have to lower his asking price as spring training approaches. The 31-year-old left-hander posted a 4.07 ERA in 28 starts last season between the Orioles and Diamondbacks.

Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio reports that Joe Saunders is still drawing interest from the Mets.
Duquette also hears that the Orioles, Padres, and Twins remain interested. Saunders has been holding out for a three-year deal, but may ultimately have to lower his demands if he doesn't sign by spring training. The 31-year-old left-hander has struggled to attract long-term offers this offseason after posting a 4.07 ERA in 28 starts between Baltimore and Arizona in 2012.
