Manager Ryne Sandberg would not confirm that Asche and Maikel Franco will platoon at third this month, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. "We'll see how things go, see what the matchups are, and different scenarios," Sandberg said.
The playing time distribution seems to indicate a platoon is in place as Franco has started at third against the last three lefties the Phillies have faced. The Phillies are scheduled to face righthanded starters on Tuesday and Wednesday which should mean Asche will be in the starting lineup both nights.
Tue Sep 2 201416:01Asche out of lineup Tuesday against Braves
Asche is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Braves, Stephen Gross of The Morning Star reports.
Asche will join fellow lefties Chase Utley and Domonic Brown on the bench with the left-handed Mike Minor on the mound for the Braves. Maikel Franco will start in his place and bat seventh for the Phillies.

Manager Ryne Sandberg said the Phillies do not have any plans to try Asche in the outfield next month, the Phillies' official site reports.
The Phillies could promote top prospect Maikel Franco in September which would cut into Asche's playing time at third base. It is possible the Phillies will give Asche a look in the outfield next spring. He has hit .251/.307/.386 with nine home runs in 339 at-bats this season.
Tue Aug 26 201415:16Asche out of lineup Tuesday against Nationals
Asche is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Nationals.
Asche gets a day off with a tough lefty on the mound in Gio Gonzalez. Andres Blanco received the start in his place and will hit eighth for the Philies.
Wed Aug 20 201411:06Asche out of lineup Wednesday against Mariners
Asche is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Mariners, Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.
Asche will head to the bench for a day with lefty James Paxton on the mound for the Mariners. Aside from the occasional rest due to matchup-based reasons, Asche has a stranglehold on the third base job at the moment, but that might not last much longer. The Phillies may be inclined to call up top hitting prospect Maikel Franco when rosters expand in September, a development that would surely cut into Asche's at-bats.

Asche could see his playing time diminish if prospect Maikel Franco is called up in September, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The Phillies will likely take a look at Franco in September, and while he can play some first base, third base is where he will likely see most of his time. Asche is hitting .243/.297/.380 with eight home runs in 305 at-bats this season.

Asche hit his eighth homer of the season for the Phillies, as he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI against the Giants on Friday.
The 24-year old third baseman is doing okay for the Phillies in his first full season, with a slash line of .245/.298/.384. He's been a bit eager as a hitter and needs to take more pitches to increase his walk totals and overall OBP, but that will likely come with time. Asche is a reasonable option at the corner infielder spot, but don't expect miracles here on out.
Tue Aug 12 201418:37Asche out of Phillies' lineup Tuesday against Angels
Asche is out of the Phillies' lineup Tuesday against the Angels, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
A 1-for-14 showing in his last four games has lowered Asche's season line to .244/.298/.373, and with lefty C.J. Wilson on the hill for the Angels, manager Ryne Sandberg will take the opportunity to get the 24-year-old a mental break. Andres Blanco will step in at third base and bat ninth Tuesday, but the team may be inclined to turn the hot corner over to prospect Maikel Franco in September should Asche continue to struggle.
Thu Jul 31 201415:28Asche not in lineup Thursday against Nationals
Asche is not in the lineup Thursday against the Nationals, Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Manager Ryne Sandberg will sit several of his left-handed hitters with southpaw Gio Gonzalez starting for the Nationals. Asche hasn't helped matters by bating 1-for-13 over his last four games.
Sun Jul 20 201410:31Cody Asche could move to LF eventually
Cody Asche is expected to change positions when the Phillies decide that top prospect Maikel Franco is ready for a promotion.
The Philadephia Inquirer's Matt Gelb lists left field as a possible landing spot for Asche. "He could," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said of Asche possibly moving to left. "He's athletic enough. But there is not anyone pushing him right now. Maikel isn't pushing him." Asche played second base in his first year in pro ball in 2011 but has only played third since. He's hitting just .251/.304/.402 over 66 games this season.

Asche went back-to-back with Marlon Byrd, homering in the eighth inning to knot the game up at 4-4. It is his first since coming off of the disabled list on June 20. Overall, Asche is slashing a mediocre .253/.317/.406 with five home runs and 25 RBI on the season.

Mon Jun 23 201422:58Cody Asche goes 3-for-3 in shutout loss
Cody Asche went 3-for-3 with a double in a game in which the Phillies were shut out by the Marlins on Monday.
Asche had half of his team's hits and the lone extra-base hit. As solid as he's been of late, the idea of moving him to left field when Maikel Franco proves ready no longer looks foolish at all.

Sun Jun 22 201420:10Asche plates three with bases-loaded double
Cody Asche went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals.
With the bases loaded in the second inning, Asche drove one into the left-center field gap to clear the bases. He later singled against closer Trevor Rosenthal in the ninth inning. The runs batted in were Asche's first since being activated from the disabled list on June 20. He's resumed his duties as the team's starting third baseman since activation.

Wed Jun 4 201409:14Asche (hamstring) won't return when eligible
Cody Asche (hamstring) will not be activated from the disabled list on Saturday when first eligible.
It's not clear how far along Asche is in his recovery from a left hamstring strain, but obviously he's not terribly close. The Phillies have been going with Reid Brignac at third base for the time being, but top prospect Maikel Franco could be an option soon.

Sun May 25 201412:59Phillies place 3B Asche (hamstring) on DL
Phillies placed 3B Cody Asche on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 23, with a strained left hamstring.
The Phillies put Asche through a 10-minute workout prior to Sunday's game, and obviously they didn't think it went well. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined. Cesar Hernandez and Reid Brignac are expected to handle third base for now, but it's possible the club will consider calling up top prospect Maikel Franco.

Sun May 25 201412:01Asche (hamstring) has had 'no improvement'
Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said Sunday that Cody Asche's has had "no improvement" with his left hamstring injury.
Asche has missed three straight games with tendinitis in his left hamstring tendon, and it's possible he'll have to be placed on the disabled list. "We have to talk about it," Sandberg said. "That's three days. That'll be a discussion. We do have six bench guys. As we go forward, we'll probably add an arm out there (in the bullpen). We need to discuss that."
