Sat Aug 2 2014 | 14:54 | Denorfia out of Mariners' lineup Saturday against Orioles |
Denorfia is out of the Mariners' lineup Saturday against the Orioles, Shannon Drayer of 710 AM ESPN Seattle reports. |
In his Mariners debut Friday against lefty Wei-Yin Chen, Denorfia went 0-for-4. It appears as though manager Lloyd McClendon will deploy a fairly strict platoon in right field, with the left-handed-swinging Endy Chavez seeing the lion's share of the starts. |
Fri Aug 1 2014 | 16:04 | Denorfia playing right field and batting sixth for Mariners in t... |
Denorfia is playing right field and batting sixth for the Mariners in his team debut Friday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports. |
Denorfia should take the majority of the starts in right field for the Mariners from here on out, and will join a more formidable lineup in Seattle compared to what he endured in his time with the Padres. Denorfia hasn't shined at the plate either this season, batting just .242/.293/.319 this season. A change of scenery and hitters could be just what he needs to up the numbers to what he has done in the past few seasons. |
Fri Aug 1 2014 | 10:25 | Denorfia will play everyday in right field |
Denorfia, who was traded to the Mariners on Thursday, will play everyday in right field, the Tacoma News Tribune reports. |
The Mariners needed a right-handed bat, and Denorfia is a career .301 hitter against left-handers. That doesn't necessarily mean he'll platoon, though. "He's going to play," manager Lloyd McClendon said. "We need offense, and he's a good hitter. My plan right now is to play him often. I'm not sure if it's going to be a strict platoon. He's pretty adept against right-handers as well." Denorfia is batting .235/.282/.314 against right-handers this season, but the Mariners hope a new environment will help him improve. |
Thu Jul 31 2014 | 14:24 | Chris Denorfia: Acquired By Mariners |
The Padres traded Denorfia to the Mariners on Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. |
A free agent at the end of the season, Denorfia will join the Mariners as a rental after posting an unsightly .242/.293/.319 batting line in 89 games with the Padres. Despite his offensive struggles this year, Denorfia can play all three outfield positions and is at least a slight upgrade offensively over the likes of Endy Chavez and Stefen Romero. |
Mon Jul 28 2014 | 11:48 | Padres working to trade Chris Denorfia soon |
Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Padres are working to trade Chris Denorfia "soon." |
Cotillo says the Giants, Blue Jays, and Mariners are among the teams expressing interest in Denorfia, who can become a free agent after this season. The 34-year-old is batting just .244/.295/.321 so far in 2014, but his career line is much better than that and he can play all three outfield spots. The Padres have already moved closer Huston Street and third baseman Chase Headley this month. |

Fri Jul 25 2014 | 23:11 | Denorfia has three-hit night vs. Braves |
Chris Denorfia went 3-for-4 with an RBI single and two runs scored Friday against the Braves. |
Even with the three-hit night, Denorfia is batting just .246/.298/.325 over 85 games this season. Still, he has a reputation for punishing left-handed pitching and has experience at all three outfield positions, so he should draw plenty of interest leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. |

Sun Jul 20 2014 | 18:02 | Blue Jays showing interest in Chris Denorfia |
Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the Blue Jays are showing interest in acquiring Padres outfielder Chris Denorfia. |
The 34-year-old has struggled at the dish this season and is set to hit free agency after the saeson, so it shouldn't take an overwhelming package to acquire his services. His offensive numbers would be certain to see a boost leaving the spacious confines of Petco Park. |

Sat Jul 19 2014 | 12:17 | Denorfia likely to be traded before deadline |
Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports that Chris Denorfia is likely to be traded before the July 31 trade deadline. |
The 34-year-old outfielder has struggled at the plate this season, hitting just .244/.295/.329 with a homer, 15 RBI and seven stolen bases in his 80 games. Set to be a free agent at the end of the season, he would make for a nice low cost acquisition for many contending teams. |

Sun Jun 22 2014 | 22:38 | Denorfia has double, run scored vs. Dodgers |
Chris Denorfia went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored against the Dodgers on Sunday. |
Denorfia led off the sixth inning with a double, coming around to score the Padres' only run of the game against Hyun-Jin Ryu and the Dodgers. After a strong opening month, the 33-year-old's hitting started to fall off in May and has completely gone away in June -- he has just five hits in 34 at-bats this month. The slump has dropped his season line to .253/.303/.346. |

Fri May 30 2014 | 23:35 | Denorfia has two hits Friday vs. ChiSox |
Chris Denorfia went 2-for-4 with a walk on Friday against the White Sox. |
Denorfia entered Friday's action with just one hit over his last 19 at-bats, but a start against the left-hander John Danks was enough to get him back on track. He should be back in the Padres' lineup on Sunday when the Padres face another southpaw in Chris Sale. It's a tough matchup, but Denorfia continues to have appeal in daily formats. |

Fri May 16 2014 | 23:55 | Denorfia has two hits in loss to Rockies |
Chris Denorfia had a nice night at the plate in Friday's loss to the Rockies, going 2-for-4 with a double, triple and a run scored. |
He's been one of the Padres best hitters to date, slashing .311/.344/.429 with a homer, 12 RBI and six stolen bases. As long as he's hitting atop the Padres lineup on a regular basis, he'll hold a fair amount of mixed league fantasy value. |

Thu May 15 2014 | 21:12 | Denorfia has two hits against Reds |
Chris Denorfia went 2-for-5 with a run scored Thursday against the Reds. |
Denorfia, who batted leadoff for the nightcap, is now hitting .304/.339/.400 through 36 games this season. While he has the reputation as a lefty-killer, he has actually been more marginally more productive against right-handers so far this year. Of course, at-bats against right-handers might be more hard to come by with Seth Smith swinging the bat well and Carlos Quentin back from the disabled list. His fantasy value will come against southpaws. |

Sun May 11 2014 | 22:28 | Denorfia steals base, drives in two vs. Fish |
Chris Denorfia went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Marlins. |
The stolen base was Denorfia's sixth in six attempts this year. He's driven in 12 runs to go with a .300/.336/.391 line. His playing time might become more sporadic in the crowded Padres outfield going forward. |

Sat Apr 26 2014 | 15:31 | Chris Denorfia has hit in loss to Nationals |
Chris Denorfia went 1-for-4 in Saturday's loss to the Nationals. |
His single was just one of three that the Padres could scratch out against Tanner Roark. Denorfia is off to a terrific start to his 2014 season, slashing .324/.342/.459 with a homer and seven RBI in his first 24 contests. |

Wed Apr 23 2014 | 00:19 | Denorfia has three hits in win over Brewers |
Chris Denorfia went 3-for-5 with a stolen base in a win over the Brewers on Tuesday. |
Denorfia had three hits on the night; the rest of the Padres managed four in the 12-inning game. Denorfia stole his fourth base of the season in the game as well. The oft-forgotten man in the Padres outfield, the 33-year-old is now hitting .333/.356/.509 on the year. |

Tue Apr 22 2014 | 00:33 | Chris Denorfia homers and walks |
Chris Denorfia homered and walked for the Padres in Monday's loss to the Brewers. |
Denorfia has been sitting a lot against right-handers, but he drew the start against Wily Peralta tonight and took advantage of the opportunity. He really should be starting regularly with Carlos Quentin and Cameron Maybin out anyway. He may not be an explosive hitter, but he's darn solid and also better defensively than the alternatives. |

Fri Mar 28 2014 | 19:09 | Denorfia (shoulder) looking good for opener |
Chris Denorfia (shoulder) got "7 or 8 at-bats" Thursday and should be ready to go by Opening Day. |
Denorfia has been sidelined by a sore right shoulder, but he's progressing as expected and will likely be back with the Padres for Sunday's opener. It's especially important for the Padres to have Denorfia back with outfielders Cameron Maybin and Carlos Quentin both prepared to begin the season on the disabled list. |

Wed Mar 26 2014 | 19:26 | Denorfia (shoulder) plays catch Wednesday |
Chris Denorfia (shoulder) played catch and took swings in the batting cage Wednesday. |
Padres manager Bud Black is still optimistic Denorfia will be ready for Opening Day as he returns from right shoulder soreness. The outfielder will stay behind in Arizona to play in a minor league game Thursday and could be back in the Padres' lineup as soon as Friday. It's a photo finish as to whether he'll be in the team's lineup Sunday. |

Tue Mar 25 2014 | 18:58 | Chris Denorfia (shoulder) could need DL stint |
Padres manager Bud Black said Tuesday that Chris Denorfia (shoulder) is not a disabled list candidate at this time, but "it's going to be close to the finish line." |
Denorfia has missed the last few games with right shoulder soreness. It's not clear when the outfielder could return to game action, but obviously he's running out of time. Denorfia is again slated to see plenty of playing time against lefties this season. |

Fri Mar 21 2014 | 08:33 | Chris Denorfia scratched with sore shoulder |
Chris Denorfia was scratched from Thursday's lineup with right shoulder soreness. |
It's not expected to be a big deal, so Denorfia should return to action within the next few days. Barring a setback, he should be fine for Opening Day. |
