Felix Pie could miss up to three months with an injury to the latissimus dorsi muscle in his back. |
Pie was placed on the disabled list with a strained muscle in his upper back last week, but further examination on Monday uncovered a more serious injury. There's been no talk of surgery, so it appears Pie will rehab the injury. "Left alone, I'm told - and they have significant medial information on this - the thing will heal itself as quickly or more quickly than if you did something on a surgical basis," said Orioles president Andy MacPhail. "But it's going to take some time to go through the process that it has to go through." Lou Montanez, who was called up from the minors last week, will likely share playing time in left field with Nolan Reimold and Luke Scott moving forward. |

Felix Pie was 2-for-3 with a leadoff home run and a walk in a loss to the Rays on Monday night. |
He also made a very nice throw to nail Jason Bartlett at home plate during the third inning. Pie hasn't shown great plate discipline, but he'll probably draw plenty out at-bats at the top of the order with Brian Roberts on the shelf. |
