DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers have avoided arbitration with Jose Iglesias, agreeing to a $6,275,000, one-year contract with the 28-year-old shortstop.Iglesias was the only remaining Detroit player eligible for arbitration . He had asked for $6.8 million and the team had offered $5.6 million.Iglesias hit .255 with six home runs and 54 RBIs in 2017. In 531 major league games with the Tigers and Boston Red Sox, he's hit .270 with a .316 on-base percentage. He was an All-Star in 2015.His days with Detroit could be numbered. DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers have agreed to a one-year, $6.05 million contract with Nicholas Castellanos, avoiding arbitration.The Tigers also reached one-year deals with right-handers Alex Wilson ($1,925,000) and Shane Greene ($1.95 million). Shortstop Jose Iglesias is still eligible for arbitration. He is asking for $6.8 million and the team is offering $5.6 million.Castellanos hit .272 with 26 home runs and 101 RBIs last season. He started 128 games at third base and 20 in right field. SS Jose Iglesias was back in the lineup for the first time since Sept. 5. Iglesias went home to Florida for the birth of his child, then got stranded following the arrival of Hurricane Irma. Iglesias was 0-for-3 with a walk.

SS Jose Iglesias is expected to rejoin the Tigers for Wednesday's game. Iglesias went home to Florida last week for the birth of his second child, but then had to evacuate his home due to Hurricane Irma. Manager Brad Ausmus said Iglesias was able to return to his home Monday.

SS Jose Iglesias was placed on the three-day paternity list on Wednesday. Iglesias has been a tear lately batting out of the No. 9 spot. He has 12 hits in his last 21 at-bats, including a solo homer in a 13-2 victory over Kansas City on Tuesday. Iglesias has raised his season average to .268, and he continues to provide solid defense. However, he is not expected to be in the club's rebuilding plans and could be dealt this offseason. He can become an unrestricted free agent after next season.

SS Jose Iglesias had three hits, including an RBI double, in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. His reward? Not playing in the second game. Manager Brad Ausmus wanted to use as many of his bench players as possible and elected to have SS Dixon Machado start at short in the second game. Iglesias has had a hot second half, offensively as well as on defense. He made two of his usual forays into the outfield to snare popups with his back to the infield.
