Sat May 19 201223:19Marlins recall OF Coghlan from Triple-A
Marlins recalled OF Chris Coghlan from Triple-A New Orleans.
He takes Gaby Sanchez's spot on the 25-man roster. Coghlan was banished to the minors in late-April after hitting an anemic .121/.147/.152 through 35 plate appearances. He's batted .275 at Triple-A. The 26-year-old center fielder entered 2012 having batted just .252/.318/.376 in the two seasons since he won the 2009 NL Rookie of the Year award. He'll have a better shot at playing time if the Fish shift Logan Morrison to first base.

Sat Mar 31 201216:13Chris Coghlan reaches base three times
Chris Coghlan reached base all three times he was up Saturday, going 1-for-1 with two walks.
Scott Cousins and Aaron Rowand looked like the favorites to serve as the Marlins' reserve outfielders at the start of camp, but it's going to be Coghlan and Austin Kearns making the cut instead. Coghlan, who missed time early on with back problems, is hitting .267 in 45 at-bats, though he's still without an extra-base hit. He probably won't have much fantasy value.

Thu Mar 15 201216:55Chris Coghlan goes 2-for-3 for Marlins
Chris Coghlan, who has missed time with back problems this spring, had two hits and two runs scored as the Marlins defeated the Mets 3-1 on Thursday.
Neither Scott Cousins nor Bryan Petersen has done much of anything this spring, so Coghlan might yet be a candidate to make the Marlins. It could well come down to playing time; if the Marlins don't think they can get enough at-bats, it'd make more sense to let him start regularly in Triple-A initially. Coghlan also needs to prove he's healthy, of course. He's 3-for-9 in five games to date.

Sun Mar 11 201210:50Chris Coghlan hopes to play Sunday
Chris Coghlan (back) made the trip with the Marlins to Port St. Lucie Sunday.
Coghlan was scratched from Friday's lineup due to lower back tightness, but the fact that the Marlins let him travel with a back injury suggests the ailment isn't a big deal. He should be fine.

Chris Coghlan was scratched from Friday's lineup due to lower back tightness.

Tue Jan 24 201213:15Coghlan had left knee scoped in November
Chris Coghlan had his left knee scoped in November.
Coghlan should be fine for spring training, but the scope took place on the same knee that he had surgically repaired in August of 2010. So there's some concern that this has become a chronic issue. The 26-year-old center fielder has batted just .252/.318/.376 in the two seasons since he won the 2009 NL Rookie of the Year award.

Wed Nov 2 201113:28Coghlan unlikely to figure in Marlins' plans
Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post speculates that Chris Coghlan will begin the 2012 season in the minors unless the Marlins trade him.
Coghlan won the NL Rookie of the Year in 2009, but has struggled ever since, spending the final three months of the 2011 season in the minor leagues. "It's been disappointing, really, the last two years," Marlins president Larry Beinfest said Tuesday. "We still see him coming back as an outfielder and in center field. He finished the year in the minor leagues which was disappointing for him and disappointing for us. He needs to re-establish himself healthy which we anticipate he will be with the knee or knees and come in and compete. We already know he can be an offensive force, a great left-handed hitter." The 27-year-old could win a roster spot as a utility man with an impressive showing during spring training, but the Marlins will likely attempt to sign a center fielder this winter.

Fri Sep 2 201112:48Marlins may not recall Coghlan
The Marlins may not recall Chris Coghlan once the Triple-A season ends.
"We'll see," were the words of Marlins president Larry Beinfest on Thursday. "He's back and he's playing (at Triple A New Orleans). But he's had a rough go. He's missed a lot of at-bats and a lot of playing time." Coghlan has hit just .225/.327/.375 through his first 11 games in New Orleans, and still may not be 100 percent healthy. Even if he is eventually recalled, he won't be worth a look in mixed leagues.

Fri Aug 19 201114:19Marlins activate Coghlan, send him to AAA
Marlins activated OF Chris Coghlan (knee, elbow) from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A New Orleans.
The Marlins are down to Mike Cameron and Bryan Petersen alongside Mike Stanton in their outfield, but have still decided they'd rather have the 2009 National League Rookie of the Year attempt to rediscover his lost stroke at the plate in the minors. Along with Logan Morrison, Coghlan will be up in September.

Fri Jul 29 201117:15Coghlan suffers hyperextended elbow
Chris Coghlan (knee) will be sidelined from his minor league rehab assignment for the next 3-5 days due to a hyperextended left elbow.
Coghlan resumed his rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter this week after a recent setback with his left knee. The Marlins were planning on demoting the former Rookie of the Year even before he went on the disabled list, so he has a lot to prove before making his way back to the major league roster.

Chris Coghlan (knee) will restart his rehab assignment Saturday with High-A Jupiter.
Coghlan was shut down earlier this week after developing some soreness in his surgically-repaired knee. After receiving some treatment, he's ready to get going again. Coghlan has also dealt with a shoulder ailment this season that might require offseason surgery. He's hoping to make it back to the Marlins at some point in the second half.

Wed Jul 13 201110:27Coghlan (knee) moved to Double-A
Chris Coghlan (knee) will continue his minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Jacksonville.
Coghlan went 2-for-7 with a walk and a stolen base in two games with High-A Jupiter. He will play 2-4 games with the Suns before being reevaluated. The Marlins were ready to demote Coghlan before his knee injury, so there's no guarantee he'll immediately return to the majors. The presence of Mike Cameron gives them some options.

Tue Jul 5 201111:25Coghlan to begin rehab assignment this week
Chris Coghlan (knee) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment at the end of this week.
Coghlan began working out this past weekend and should be ready to return to the Marlins' starting lineup right after the All-Star break. He's been on the 15-day disabled list since mid-June with a sore left knee and will return to a .230/.296/.368 batting line once he is cleared.

Mon Jun 20 201109:42Marlins place Coghlan on DL
Marlins placed OF Chris Coghlan on the minor league disabled list with an injured left knee.
Coghlan was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Friday and has not been able to play in a game yet because of a knee injury that he has struggled with for most of the year. That may explain his ugly .230/.296/.368 batting line.
