Wed Sep 12 201218:27Franklin Morales transferred to 60-day DL
Red Sox transferred LHP Franklin Morales from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Morales was already considered unlikely to return this year, and now it's official. The Red Sox said an MRI revealed "a pitcher's shoulder," which presumably means that the lefty just has some wear and tear and should be fine after an extended period of rest.

Tue Sep 11 201217:00Morales (shoulder) likely done for season
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine suggested Tuesday that Franklin Morales (shoulder) is done for 2012.
Morales has been sidelined since late August with shoulder fatigue and hasn't been able to build any strength. The right-hander will likely wind up with a 3.77 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 76/30 K/BB ratio in 76 1/3 innings.

Tue Sep 11 201215:57Morales had MRI on shoulder Monday
Franklin Morales underwent an MRI on his left shoulder on Monday.
The results aren't yet known and Morales is currently waiting to talk to the doctor. Morales was placed on the disabled list in late August with what was described as shoulder fatigue, but the southpaw said Tuesday that he's feeling pretty good. Fantasy owners shouldn't count on him this month, though.

Sun Sep 9 201211:28Franklin Morales needs more tests on shoulder
Franklin Morales will undergo more tests on his ailing left shoulder.
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Morales is in a "holding pattern" because his shoulder "doesn't feel 100 percent." He had been diagnosed with shoulder weakness, but it's possible there's something more going on in there. The left-hander's season is almost surely over.

Thu Aug 23 201223:50Morales hit hard in no-decision vs. Angels
Franklin Morales was again hit hard in a no-decision against the Angels on Thursday, allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits in just 2 2/3 innings.
Morales fanned three while walking two in the abbreviated outing. After being staked to a 7-0 lead after two innings, the Angels struck back for eight runs in the top of the third, retaking the lead and chasing Morales from the game. A critical error by Pedro Ciriaco extended the inning and led to several of the runs being unearned. The young left-hander has now struggled badly in each of his last two outings, and could be in serious danger of losing his spot in the rotation once Daisuke Matsuzaka returns. He'll look to get back on track when he battles these same Angels at home on Tuesday.

Fri Aug 17 201222:24Morales serves up 4 homers in loss to Yankees
Franklin Morales had a rough evening, serving up four solo home runs in a losing effort against the Yankees on Friday.
Morales finished the night allowing five runs on six hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work. Nick Swisher, Curtis Granderson, Russell Martin and Derek Jeter were responsible for the damage. It marked the second consecutive game against the Yankees in which Morales had allowed four long balls. The 26-year-old lefty will look to bounce back when he takes on the Angels at home on Thursday.

Sat Aug 11 201221:05Morales struggles in loss to Indians
Franklin Morales struggled in Saturday's loss to the Indians, surrendering three runs on two hits and four walks over 5 1/3 innings.
Morales punched out six in the game, but he was plenty hittable at times. Brent Lillibridge launched a solo homer to get the scoring started in the third inning, then the Tribe added single runs in the fifth and sixth before chasing Morales from the game. He's done a fairly nice job in the Red Sox rotation to this point, posting a 3-3 record, 3.29 ERA and 70/27 K/BB ratio over 68 1/3 innings. He'll take the ball again on Friday versus the Yankees in New York.

Thu Aug 9 201217:29Morales to start Saturday vs. Twins
Franklin Morales will start Saturday against the Indians.
That was the expectation already, but it's now official. Morales tossed six innings of one-run ball last Sunday against the Twins and has a chance to stick in the rotation with a solid performance. Jon Lester will pitch the series finale on Sunday.

Wed Aug 8 201208:50Morales to stay in Red Sox starting rotation
Franklin Morales will remain in the Red Sox starting rotation for now.
He's certainly deserving of the opportunity after tossing six innings of one-run ball Sunday in place of Josh Beckett. Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine has yet to make an official announcement, but Morales is expected to start Saturday against the Indians while Aaron Cook will have his next start pushed back to next week against the Orioles.

Sun Aug 5 201218:00Franklin Morales goes six in third win
Making a spot-start in place of Josh Beckett, Franklin Morales held the Twins to one run on three hits in six innings of Sunday's 6-4 win.
Morales struck out four and walked three in improving to 3-2. Not a bad day at the office, but Morales will be shifted back to the bullpen provided Josh Beckett (back) can make his next start. Morales isn't an option outside of leagues with holds.

Fri Aug 3 201216:09Morales to start Sunday vs. Twins
Franklin Morales will start in place of Josh Beckett (back) on Sunday against the Twins.
Given Beckett's injury and Aaron Cook's recent struggles, Morales has a pretty good chance to stick in the rotation for the short-term. The hard-throwing left-hander has a 3.32 ERA and 60/20 K/BB ratio over 57 innings this season, including a 3.42 ERA in five starts.

Tue Jul 17 201216:01Red Sox moving Morales back to bullpen
The Red Sox are moving Franklin Morales back to the bullpen.
The Red Sox are going back to a five-man rotation, which means Aaron Cook will get the nod over Morales. It's too bad, as the hard-throwing southpaw has been pretty impressive save for a rough outing against the Yankees on July 7. There's a chance the Red Sox could change their minds if (or when) Cook eventually comes back down to Earth.

Sat Jul 7 201215:51Morales gives up six runs in loss
Franklin Morales was tagged for six runs over 3 1/3 innings as part of a loss in the first game of a doubleheader against the Yankees on Saturday.
Perhaps it wasn't a good idea to use him in relief on Wednesday. Morales allowed six hits (including four home runs) while striking out two, walking two and hitting a btter. He threw just 47 out of 80 pitches for strikes before getting pulled. Morales had allowed four runs over his previous three starts combined. Of course, two of those starts were against the Cubs and Mariners. The hard-throwing southpaw remains intriguing, but he'll have to earn his way back in the good graces of fantasy owners.

Fri Jun 29 201201:00Franklin Morales goes seven scoreless
Franklin Morales pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out seven Thursday against the Mariners.
He was facing an offense that's struggled mightily of late, but Morales really has looked good as a starter. He allowed just three hits, walked two and struck out seven tonight. If he can continue to stay away from the walks, there's no reason he can't be a very good starter for Boston.

Sun Jun 17 201223:30Franklin Morales fans nine in first start
Making his first start of the season, Franklin Morales yielded two runs in five innings and struck out nine Sunday against the Cubs.
Filling in for Josh Beckett, Morales didn't walk a single batter in his first start since 2009. The Red Sox might want to give him more looks in the rotation after this, though if Beckett is ready to take his next turn, it's going to be hard to find room for him. It's worth picking him up in AL-only leagues in case he does get another opportunity.

Mon Mar 19 201216:00Franklin Morales (shoulder) to debut Wed.
Franklin Morales (shoulder) is scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut on Wednesday.
Morales has been held out of games all spring -- first due to a heart problem, and more recently because of shoulder weakness. The 26-year-old left-hander has enough time to get sufficiently warmed up for the start of the regular season, but he must avoid further setbacks.

Sun Mar 11 201208:45Franklin Morales throwing again
Franklin Morales has yet to appear in a Grapefruit League game due to weakness in his pitching shoulder.
Though there's currently no set date for his return to game action, Morales is throwing again and Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine doesn't seem concerned about the lefty's ability to be ready by Opening Day. "There's a plan for him,'' the manager said. "It's not unreasonable to think he's going to be charging hard when the season gets here.''

Fri Mar 9 201214:05Franklin Morales gets tested for heart issue
Franklin Morales revealed Friday that he went back to Boston to get his heart checked after his physical showed something abnormal.
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine on Wednesday wouldn't disclose the reason for the test, but now we know. Regardless, the test came back clean, and Morales is expected to be fine.

Wed Mar 7 201212:47Morales returns to Red Sox after medical test
Franklin Morales returned to Red Sox camp on Wednesday after spending a few days in Boston for a medical test related to his physical.
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine wouldn't disclose the reason for the test, but said it wasn't related to his arm. "He felt real good about the results of the exam that he had. He's a couple of days from resuming his throwing," said Valentine. Morales is a little behind the other pitchers in camp at this point, but the southpaw shouldn't need much time to catch up.
