Tue May 15 201820:07Slumping Dodgers activate Turner, Forsythe from DL
MIAMI (AP) — When Justin Turner walked into the Los Angeles' Dodgers' pregame clubhouse Tuesday, teammates began shouting at him."We got a new guy!" one said."Hey, new guy!" another hollered.New for 2018, anyway. And most welcome, given the state of the Dodgers. They activated Turner, an All-Star third baseman last year, and second baseman Logan Forsythe from the 10-day disabled list, and both were in the lineup for Tuesday night's game at Miami.Turner made his season debut after breaking his left wrist in spring training. Forsythe had been sidelined since April 14 because of right shoulder inflammation."The lineup looks better," manager Dave Roberts said. "It looks deeper. JT is an All-Star. He's a presence in the lineup. It makes me a better manager when he's in the lineup."The Dodgers (16-24) have been plagued by injuries and began this week's trip in fourth place in the NL West after being swept in a four-game series at home by woeful Cincinnati.Turner said he and Forsythe can't cause... Thu May 3 201815:55Ryu out until after All-Star break with groin injury
PHOENIX (AP) — More bad news for the Los Angeles Dodgers.Manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu will be sidelined until after the All-Star break with a severe left groin strain. The injury occurred when Ryu, off to a strong start to the season, threw a pitch with one out in the second inning of Wednesday night's 2-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.Roberts said the groin muscle had torn from the bone."It's a pretty dramatic injury," the manager told reporters before the Dodgers and Diamondbacks wrapped up a four-game series with an afternoon game.Ryu was 3-0 with a 2.14 ERA, his best start to a season since 2014."It doesn't feel good," Ryu said through a translator after Wednesday's game. "This seems to be worse than the ones I had in the past."He missed a month with a similar injury in 2016.Walker Buehler, the 23-year-old top prospect who has had two strong starts for the Dodgers this season, is in line to take Ryu's rotation spot."It seems like the logical... LOS ANGELES (AP) — Clayton Kershaw will make his franchise-record eighth consecutive opening day start for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are aiming for a second straight World Series appearance with virtually the same roster as last year.Kershaw takes the mound Thursday against the rival San Francisco Giants and Ty Blach, whose only opening day starts have been in the minors. Blach drew the assignment because of injuries to Madison Bumgarner and Jeff Samardzija. After falling one win short of their first World Series title since 1988, the Dodgers have shifted their focus from losing to Houston in Game 7 to earning another shot this year."We understand what our goal is," manager Dave Roberts said. "It's to do whatever we can to win the World Series."The Giants are trying to get back in contention in the NL West after finishing last in 2017. Wed Mar 7 201801:51Wheel see: Diamondbacks set to bring back bullpen buggy
The bullpen cart is back in the big leagues.Nearly a quarter-century since relievers stopped catching rides to the mound, the Arizona Diamondbacks said Tuesday they will use a buggy — topped by the requisite oversized team cap — to transport pitchers from both bullpens at Chase Field."I don't know how it will be getting driven in, but I think it's a cool idea and we'll have some fun with it," Diamondbacks closer candidate Archie Bradley said. With Major League Baseball looking for ways to speed up things, it's hard to tell whether this will save any time. But it's certain to be a hit with fans, especially the kids the game is trying to attract."I love it. I love it. I love," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. "It brings a little personality. We're probably the only sport that can do something like that."The last known time a team in the majors used a motorized vehicle — some clubs had actual cars — to relay relievers was 1995, when the Milwaukee Brewers shuttled them in a motorcycle... INF Logan Forsythe got the start in Game 1 against the Diamondbacks over veteran 2B Chase Utley. "Well, obviously I don't think we could have made a wrong decision," Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts said. "I think that part of it is I think there is a tick better defense from Logan. You've got your ace (LHP Clayton Kershaw) on the mound and the ability to have Chase on the bench to use him at any point in time to impact the game from the bench, I think holds huge value. I also think that as Logan's first postseason, it's a benefit for him to start a game, to get into a game, and the flow of the postseason as opposed to coming off the bench.? Forsythe went 1 for 3 with a single and a walk in Game 1.
