Tue May 20 201418:04Cliff Lee undergoes MRI on pitching elbow
Cliff Lee underwent an MRI on his sore left elbow Tuesday.
Yikes. Lee has apparently pitched through an elbow strain in recent starts and experienced a velocity decline. The Phillies are still awaiting the results of Tuesday's exam. Lee is currently scheduled to face the Dodgers this weekend, but obviously whether he'll be ready for that outing is up in the air.

Sun May 18 201416:59Lee solid enough to earn fourth win vs. Reds
Cliff Lee got the win, allowing two runs over 6 2/3 innings as the Phillies defeated the Reds 8-3 on Sunday.
The Reds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against Lee, but the left-hander settled down, shutting them out the rest of the way until his departure in the seventh. Overall, Lee allowed nine hits, walked one, and struck out three, lowering his ERA to 3.18 in the process. His strikeout rate has been curiously low but the results are there nonetheless. Lee will go for win number five next weekend against the Dodgers.

Tue May 13 201422:22Lee's defense unhelpful, falls to 3-4
Cliff Lee took the loss on Tuesday, allowing four runs (none earned) in seven innings as the Angels defeated the Phillies 4-3.
Lee pitched very well on the night, but Cody Asche's three errors at third base proved costly. Overall, the left-hander allowed six hits, walked one, and struck out seven. Lee has had an odd season, but owns a 3.23 ERA with a 58/8 K/BB ratio. He'll look to even out his record, currently 3-4, in his next start on the road against the Marlins.

Wed May 7 201421:46Cliff Lee suffers shaky seventh to take loss
Cliff Lee allowed six runs in 6 1/3 innings and earned the loss in Wednesday's defeat at the hands of the Blue Jays.
Lee looked solid enough through six, but the Jays figured him out in the seventh. Edwin Encarnacion (triple), Erik Kratz (home run), Dioner Navarro (single), Juan Francisco (home run), and Shawn Tolleson (double) all struck the baseball quite hard in a tough seventh inning for the lefty. Overall, Lee allowed seven hits, walked one, and struck out six. Lee will look to rebound at home against the Angels in his next start.

Fri May 2 201422:30Lee goes seven innings in no-decision
Cliff Lee gave up two runs (one earned) over seven strong innings Friday in a no-decision against the Nationals.
Lee held the Nationals to just four hits (including a home run) and a pair of walks while striking out five batters. The veteran southpaw has allowed three earned runs or fewer in six straight starts since Opening Day and now holds a 3.00 ERA and 45/6 K/BB ratio over 48 innings for the year. He'll look to keep it going next week against the Blue Jays in Toronto next week.

Sat Apr 26 201423:22Cliff Lee surrenders five runs in no-decision
Cliff Lee surrendered five runs -- three earned -- in six innings Saturday in a no-decision vs. Arizona.
The Phillies rallied for four runs in the top of the eighth inning to grab the lead from the host D'Backs, who are now 8-19 on the year. Lee was uncharacteristically ineffective, yielding all five runs in the first three innings and eight hits in total. The ace left-hander should be able to right the ship next week against the Nationals.

Tue Apr 22 201401:19SP Lee Ks 10 in 8 shutout innings to beat LAD
Cliff Lee fired eight shutout frames, striking out 10, in a 7-0 win over the Dodgers on Monday.
Los Angeles was flummoxed, eking out four singles and zero walks against the perennial Cy Young contender. Do you remember when Lee coughed up eight runs in five innings on Opening Day against the Rangers? No? Good, because we don't either. In the four starts since, he's surrendered just four runs over 30 innings, and posted an utterly insane 37/1 K/BB ratio in so doing. Lee faces a dangerous lineup in a difficult environment this weekend, but his odds for a win against the demoralized Bronson Arroyo and the punch-drunk Diamondbacks are high.

Wed Apr 16 201421:48Lee K's 13 in CG but gets the tough-luck loss
Cliff Lee was dominant in Wednesday's start against the Braves, but earned a loss despite allowing one run in a complete game on Wednesday.
Lee's only blemish came courtesy an Evan Gattis solo home run in the fourth inning that barely escaped the fence in the left field corner. Overall, Lee struck out 13, allowed 11 hits, and walked one. Over his first four starts, he has exemplified the vagaries of BABIP, but has also been around the strike zone a little too much, some might argue. Regardless, he now sports a 28:2 K:BB ratio.

Thu Apr 10 201422:13Cliff Lee gives up three runs to Brewers
Cliff Lee took his first loss after giving up three runs in six innings Thursday against the Brewers.
Lee struck out eight and walked none, but the Brewers got to him for eight hits, including four for extra bases. Blame a combination of bad defense and bad luck for Lee's start so far. He's allowed just one homer and one walk to go along with 15 strikeouts in 18 innings, but he's given up 29 hits.

Mon Mar 31 201418:34Cliff Lee gives up eight runs, wins anyway
Cliff Lee won on Opening Day despite giving up eight runs in five innings against the Rangers.
Kill the win? Lee was given a six-run lead in the second, blew it by allowing seven runs in the next two frames, only to get another bounty to work with in what ended up being a 14-10 game. It's just the third time since 2008 that a pitcher has allowed eight runs and won. Lee, then pitching for Seattle, also did it on May 21, 2010. Tampa Bay's Jeremy Hellickson was the last two do it (May 17, 2013 against the Orioles).

Wed Mar 26 201416:32Cliff Lee strikes out seven against Tigers
Cliff Lee allowed one run in five innings and struck out seven Wednesday in a loss to the Tigers.
Lee is probably used to this by now, but he ends the spring 1-2 despite a 2.55 ERA and a 26/4 K/BB ratio in 24 2/3 innings. He'll face off against the Rangers and Tanner Scheppers on Opening Day.

Mon Mar 17 201413:28Phillies name Cliff Lee Opening Day starter
Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg on Monday named Cliff Lee the club's Opening Day starter.
With Roy Halladay retired and Cole Hamels (shoulder) injured, there weren't any other real options. He'll be followed in the rotation by A.J. Burnett and Kyle Kendrick. Lee, 35, holds a pristine 2.80 ERA in his three seasons in Philadelphia.

Tue Mar 4 201421:36Cliff Lee looks good against Blue Jays
Cliff Lee held the Blue Jays to one run over three innings in Tuesday's loss.
The veteran southpaw gave up three hits, struck out two and didn't walk anyone. We shouldn't read too much into Lee's spring results if they're good or bad, as he should be fine-tuned by the time Opening Day rolls around.

Tue Dec 10 201309:00Phils willing to discuss Lee, Hamels trades
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Phillies have indicated to teams that they are "ready and willing" to discuss Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels in trades.
It's likely just a matter of due diligence, but given the prices in free agency, the Phillies could land a huge haul for either pitcher. Lee is owed $25 million in each of the next two seasons while his contract includes a $27.5 million club option for 2016 or a $12.5 million buyout. Hamels just inked a six-year, $144 million extension with the Phillies last July and is under contract through at least 2018. We doubt that they'll actually be moved, but the Phillies are at least willing to listen.

Fri Sep 27 201321:53Cliff Lee fans 13 Braves in tough-luck loss
Cliff Lee impressively racked up 13 strikeouts against the Braves on Friday, but was handed a tough-luck loss after surrendering just one run on three hits over eight masterful innings.
The 34-year-old southpaw was engaged in a fantastic pitching duel with Kris Medlen, trading zeroes until Chris Johnson tagged Lee for a solo homer in the eighth inning. Lee wraps up another dominant season at the front of the Phillies rotation, posting a 14-8 record, 2.87 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 222/32 K/BB ratio over 222 2/3 innings. He's as reliable as they come in fantasy leagues, and should be among the top tier of hurlers off the board in next Spring's drafts.

Mon Sep 16 201322:22Cliff Lee fans 14, knocks in four in victory
Cliff Lee struck out 14 while pitching eight innings of two-run ball and knocked in four runs as the Phillies pummeled the Marlins 12-2 on Monday.
Lee had a two-run single in the third, an RBI triple in the fifth and then an RBI single in the seventh. He drove in more runs tonight than he had in his 28 previous starts this season (two). He also drove in more runs than the Phillies had scored in 17 of those 28 starts. Oh, yeah, and he fanned 14 batters, the second highest total of his career. He struck out 16 against the Braves on May 6, 2011.

Wed Sep 11 201322:55Cliff Lee whiffs nine over eight frames
Cliff Lee struck out nine while limiting the Padres to two runs over eight innings in Wednesday's 4-2 win.
Two of the five hits Lee surrendered were solo homers, but that's all the Padres were able to muster off of the veteran left-hander. After going through a bit of a rough stretch while nursing a neck issue, Lee has rebounded with a 2.00 ERA over his last five outings. He'll have a good chance to keep it going next week at home against the Marlins.

Fri Sep 6 201321:29Lee holds Braves to two hits in 2-1 victory
Cliff Lee allowed one run on two hits over eight innings in the Phillies' 2-1 win over the Braves on Friday.
Lee had it all working, striking out 10 while not walking a batter. The lone Braves run came on a solo homer from Andrelton Simmons, but they could only muster a single the rest of the night. Lee is a nice play his next time out as well, taking on the Padres on Thursday.

Sat Aug 31 201319:41Lee allows two earned runs in no-decision
Cliff Lee allowed three runs -- two earned -- in five innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Cubs.
Chicago tagged Lee for nine hits and drew three walks against him. The left-hander has won just two games since mid-June but still boasts a 3.09 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 183 2/3 innings. He'll face off against the Braves next.
