Carrera is out of the lineup for the third straight game Sunday against the Astros.

With Jose Bautista now recovered from his bout with shoulder soreness and able to play right field on a regular basis, the Blue Jays no longer have a need for Carrera as an everyday player. Carrera has delivered a surprising .303/.356/.364 line since joining the big club, which should put him first in line for a regular role if Chris Colabello's production tails off.

Carrera is not in the lineup Thursday against the Angels.

Carrera will now take a seat for the third time in four games as the streaking Danny Valencia will draw his fourth consecutive start. Though he was expected to see an increase in playing time with Michael Saunders on the disabled list, it appears as though manager John Gibbons is committed to playing both Chris Colabello and Valencia more regularly instead.

Carrera is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Angels, John Lott of the National Post reports.

With Michael Saunders on the disabled list and Jose Bautista still restricted just to DH duties, Carrera has received regular playing time in the outfield but he'll get the day off Tuesday. Danny Valencia will draw the start in left field with Chris Colabello getting the nod in right.

Carrera will start in left field and lead off Tuesday against the Orioles, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.

With Devon Travis out of the lineup, Carrera will be afforded his first opportunity atop the order this season. The 27-year-old Carrera is off to a 9-for-21 start with Toronto (.429 average), and will likely see regular time in the corners in the short term with Michael Saunders (knee) on the DL and Jose Bautista (shoulder) limited to DH duty.

Carrera went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Orioles.

Carrera is now hitting for a .429/.455/.571 slash line across 21 at bats. While the sample size may be small, with an unknown timetable for Jose Bautista's return to right field, Carrera is a good value option in daily leagues, particularly against righties, against whom he's hitting .467 (7-for-15) on the season.

With Danny Valencia healthy and a lefty on the mound, he will slot in as the right fielder. However, there is still not a clear timetable for Jose Bautista to return to right field, so Carrera may not be done getting in the mix in right for the Blue Jays.

The 27-year-old could see some time in the short term if Jose Bautista is unable to return to right field in the coming days, but he will likely serve primarily in a reserve role.

Carrera was a serviceable hitter last year for the Tigers, batting .261 in 45 games for the Tigers with seven stolen bases in eight attempts. Carrera was really strong in the minors last season, hitting .307 with 43 stolen bases in Triple-A Toledo, but he couldn't carry that momentum into the spring. The 27-year-old has limited fantasy value even in dynasty leagues as his window to the major leagues as an everyday player is rapidly closing.

Carrera could have a chance at competing for the starting center field job or the fourth outfield job with a strong spring training.

Carrera declined his outright assignment to Triple-A Toledo and will become a free agent.

Carrera was DFA'd last week after appearing in 45 games for the Tigers last season. He hit .261 with two RBI and three walks in 69 major league at-bats, but his averaged jumped to .307 in 374 at-bats for Toledo. Carrera will hit free agency where he figures to generate mild interest due to his defensive capabilities.

Carrera was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Thursday.

Carrera appeared in 45 games with the Tigers last season, but last week's trade for Anthony Gose made him expendable. He could garner some interest on the waiver wire thanks to his ability to man center field.

Carrera went 3-for-4 with two runs and two steals in the nightcap of Saturday's double-header against the White Sox.

Carrera has handled himself nicely since joining the Tigers in early August. He's hitting .280/.308/.380 with five steals in 50 at-bats while providing solid defense. Rajai Davis still holds the edge in playing time, but Carrera could earn more at-bats with performances like Saturday.

Even with a right-handed starter on the mound for the Yankees on Tuesday, Carrera will give way to Rajai Davis in center field after he went 1-for-4 with a double in Monday's game.

Carrera will have his contract purchased from Triple-A Toledo prior to Friday's game vs. the Rockies, James Schmehl of MLive.com reports.

The Tigers went all-in on the season by acquiring Rays ace David Price at the trade deadline, but weakened themselves in the outfield by giving up Austin Jackson in the three-team deal. Along with Rajai Davis, Carrera will be tabbed to fill some of the void in center field, after he slashed .307/.387/.422 with six homers and 43 stolen bases for Triple-A Toledo.
