Reed took the loss Saturday against the Pirates when he gave up a run on three hits in the top of the ninth of a tie game. He struck out one in the outing.
This was just Reed's sixth appearance of the season, but he has not performed all that well, yielding eight hits and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings pitched, leaving him an ugly 2.20 WHIP. There shouldn't be any reason to worry about his grip on the closer role as he is suffering from a .468 BABIP, while he has yet to give up a home run, which has been one of his main issues in the past.

Reed blew the save Thursday against the Giants as he lasted only 0.2 innings, giving up two hits, two walks and a run.
With the Diamondbacks up one, Buster Posey reached on an infield single before Reed got the next two outs. Joe Panik then tripled in Posey before Reed walked the next two batters. Reed left the game with the bases loaded and two outs and was relieved by Andrew Chafin, who struck out Nori Aoki to end the inning.

Reed (shoulder) appeared in Tuesday's win over the Giants and recorded his first save of the year, striking out two batters in the ninth.
Reed missed some time in Spring Training, but seems good to go now. Last season he saw the majority of the save opportunities for the Diamondbacks, appearing in 62 games and picking up 32 saves. However, his numbers jumped up from 2013, finishing with a 1.21 WHIP and 4.25 ERA.

Reed (shoulder) made his third consecutive scoreless appearance of the spring Tuesday.
He appears to be on track to be ready for Opening Day. Reed could still make another two or three appearances before Cactus League play wraps up, though it's unclear if he will be used on back-to-back days before the start of the regular season.

Reed (shoulder) said that he's felt normal during his live batting practice sessions and bullpen work this spring. Additionally, he's certain that he will be ready for the D-backs' Opening Day game against the Giants, the Arizona Republic reports.
Last season, Reed struggled with the command of his slider, which could become a useful pitch for him again in 2015 if the mechanical adjustments he's made to his delivery allow him to repeat it more consistently. Additionally, the hope is that the adjustment will lessen the strain on Reed's shoulder. He's consistently available after the first 20 closers are taken off the board in drafts this spring, offering up profit potential if he's able to stay healthy and keep hitters from sitting back on his fastball this season.

D-backs manager Chip Hale said Reed (shoulder) "looked great" while facing live hitters for the first time this spring Friday, the Arizona Republic reports.
It's expected that he Reed will appear in a minor league game in the coming days. The D-backs remains optimistic that Reed will be ready to pitch on Opening Day.

Reed (shoulder) is scheduled to face live hitters in a batting practice session Friday, the Arizona Republic reports.
If that session goes as planned, Reed could pitch in a minor league game Tuesday. Considering that the D-backs don't have a timetable for him to appear in a big league spring training game, Reed should be considered questionable for Opening Day until he takes another big step forward in his progress from the injury.
Mon Mar 16 201516:37Reed (shoulder) continues to throw bullpen sessions
Reed (shoulder) continues to throw bullpen sessions, and he insists that he's 100 percent healthy, the Arizona Republic reports.
To this point, Reed still has not appeared in a Cactus League game. Further, he's been working to adjust his mechanics recently to ease some of the strain being placed on his arm with his current delivery. It's reasonable to think that he may only need a half dozen appearances in spring games to be ready for Opening Day, but he'll need to start pitching in games soon in order to make that timetable.

Reed (shoulder) threw his first bullpen session of the spring Wednesday, the Arizona Republic reports.
As a reliever, Reed won't need as much time to get ready for the start of the season, but he still has a few hurdles to clear before getting into Cactus League games. If he's unable to begin the season as the Arizona closer, Evan Marshall may be given a short-term look in his place.

The Diamondbacks remain optimistic that Reed (shoulder) will be ready for Opening Day, the team's official site reports.
With Reed and Brad Ziegler (knee) slowed by injuries this spring, manager Chip Hale suggested that Evan Marshall may be used to close out games if needed when the regular season begins. It's believed that Reed is still approximately one week away from throwing off a mound again.
Thu Mar 5 201515:00Reed (shoulder) still has not thrown from mound this spring
Reed (shoulder) still has not thrown from a mound this spring, the Arizona Republic reports.
As a reliever, Reed may only need a couple of weeks to prepare for the season, but the longer he goes without beginning the process of working his way into game situations, the more likely it becomes that he will need a stint on the disabled list to begin the season. Currently, Evan Marshall and Oliver Perez are the only two healthy locks to open the season in the Arizona bullpen.

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale was a little bit more cautious about Reed's shoulder status than Reed's remarks on Sunday, the Arizona Republic reports. "The worst thing we can do is say you've only thrown two or three times now and we're going to open the season," Hale said. "If that's the case, then he may have to start on the DL. We're a long way away from that. We'll see how many outings it's going to take for him to feel comfortable and for us to feel comfortable with how he's throwing the ball."
Reed earlier said that he would be ready for Opening Day, but he's going to need to hit the benchmarks set by the team first. The first of those is to throw off a mound, which won't happen for at least a couple more weeks.
Sun Mar 1 201514:52Addison Reed: (Shoulder) Soreness Gone
Reed said soreness in his shoulder has completely subsided, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. He will be able to throw off a mound in about two weeks and is still expected to be ready for Opening Day.
Reed's soreness started early in spring training after a bullpen session. It appears the issue isn't too serious, as he should be fine for Opening Day barring a setback. The 26-year-old is slated as the Diamondbacks closer again in 2015 after posting a 4.25 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 32 saves in 38 chances last season.
Thu Feb 19 201514:59Addison Reed: Experiencing Soreness
Reed experienced some soreness during a recent throwing session and will be kept off the mound for a couple days, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Manager Chip Hale was adamant that it's just normal soreness and no injury is in play, but it's still somewhat disconcerting that he's having arm issues at this stage of spring training. The 26-year-old Reed posted a 4.25 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 69:15 K:BB with 32 saves last season, his first with Arizona, and will open 2015 in the ninth-inning role, health permitting.
Fri Feb 13 201512:34Reed has settled with Diamondbacks on one-year
Reed has settled with the Diamondbacks on a one-year, $4.875 million deal to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.
Reed would be making more, but he allowed an awful 1.67 home runs per nine innings in 2014, ballooning his ERA to 4.25. He still makes money in arbitration because he got saves, but there's a decent chance he's not closing late this season if the long ball issues continue.

Reed pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out two to get the save in the Diamondbacks' 5-2 win over the Cardinals on Saturday.
It was Reed's first save since Aug. 29., a span lasting eight appearances. He's had a rough September, posting a 9.00 ERA and raising his season ERA to 4.32. However, he's settled from a few rough appearances last week.

Reed (1-7) was tagged with his seventh blown save and a loss Thursday in Colorado, as he allowed a walk-off two-run homer to Wilin Rosario in the ninth.
A brutal result for Reed, who's given up a stunning 11 homers in 57.1 innings this year. He's also allowed two runs in three consecutive appearances, so it could be that he's just fatigued at this point in what's been a tremendously difficult season for the Diamondbacks as a whole.

Reed allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in the ninth inning of the Diamondbacks' 4-2 loss to the Giants on Wednesday.
Reed hasn't had a save opportunity this month, but he's fared pretty bad in his appearances. Wednesday's outing was the second straight two-run performance. He's allowed four runs and 10 hits in his last four appearances. His 10.38 in September suggests he's in a major slump.

Reed allowed two runs on four hits in a non-save opportunity in the ninth inning of the Diamondbacks' 8-6 win over the Padres on Sunday.
Reed has been strong most of the season, but he's allowed a run in two of three outings. The four hits are tied for the most against Reed this season. He hasn't recorded a save since Aug. 29.

Reed gave up a run on three hits in a non-save situation Wednesday versus the Giants.
Reed was called on to work the eighth inning with Arizona down 4-0. The right-hander hadn't pitched in a week due to a lack of save opportunities for the skidding Diamondbacks.
