Fri Aug 3 201209:06Josh Beckett unlikely to make next start
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said it's "more than likely" that Josh Beckett (back) will not make his scheduled start Sunday.
"I'd say it's questionable for him to throw [Friday], which would then make it questionable that he would make his next start, which means he won't make it, more than likely," said Valentine. The manager added that Beckett felt "much improved" Thursday, but he's "still a little limited in his motion." It's not clear at this point whether he'll require a stint on the DL. Franklin Morales will start Sunday if Beckett can't.

Mon Jul 30 201223:58Red Sox not dealing Beckett before deadline
Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston was told by a team source that the Red Sox are not trading Josh Beckett before Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline.
The Red Sox shopped Beckett and also received some calls, but the possibility was always a long shot. The 32-year-old right-hander is still owed roughly $37 million through 2014 and can veto any deal with his 10-and-5 rights. They might be able to do better in the offseason if he finishes strong.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Red Sox are now "unlikely" to trade Josh Beckett.
Olney says the Red Sox talked to a "small handful of teams about him" but found no offers to their liking. Beckett is owed a total of $31.5 million in salary over the next two seasons and has posted a 4.57 ERA in 17 starts this year. It's doubtful Boston got any great offers.

Sun Jul 29 201223:49Report: Sox are "trying to dump" Beckett
The Red Sox are "trying to dump" Josh Beckett, according to ESPN Boston.
"They're trying to dump him," a major league executive said, "but I don't think anyone would touch him without a big discount." Because he is a 10/5 player, Beckett can veto any trade. Beckett is owed a total of $31.5 million over the next two seasons and has registered a pedestrian 4.57 ERA this year.

Fri Jul 20 201222:41Beckett hit hard in loss to Blue Jays
Josh Beckett was hit hard in Friday's loss to the Blue Jays, surrendering four runs on seven hits over his six innings of work.
Beckett did manage to fan seven while walking three in the game. After allowing a pair of runs each in the first and second innings, he was able to settle down and shut the Jays out for the next four frames. Beckett continues to frustrate Red Sox fans and fantasy owners alike, as he possesses all the talent in the world but just can't seem to keep his focus for an extended period of time. He'll take a 5-8 record and 4.53 ERA into Wednesday's start against the Rangers in Texas.

He'll take a 5-7 record and 4.44 ERA into his next start against the Blue Jays at home on Friday.

Thu Jun 7 201222:11Beckett's hamstring not a concern
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Thursday that Josh Beckett's right hamstring "seems like it's non-problematic."
Beckett allowed two runs over eight innings before leaving Wednesday's start against the Orioles with a right hamstring cramp. He was only at 92 pitches at the time, so he likely would have come out for the ninth if it wasn't for the injury. However, Beckett worked on the treadmill Thursday and the hamstring isn't expected to have any impact on his availability for his next scheduled start.
