Sat Jun 29 201320:31Beckett (arm) needs surgery, out for season
Josh Beckett (arm) will undergo surgery to relieve pressure on the nerves in his neck area and will miss the remainder of the season.
It was reported earlier in the day that Beckett felt some tingling in his hand after a throwing session on Friday, so the two are certainly connected. The 33-year-old ends his season with a 5.19 ERA in just 43 1/3 innings of work. No word yet on whether Beckett will be ready for the start of the 2014 season.

Sat Jun 29 201319:28Beckett (arm) suffers slight setback throwing
Josh Beckett (arm) suffered "a little bit of a setback" during a light throwing session on Friday.
Beckett reported feeling some tingling in his fingers after the session, not a good sign for a guy dealing with a nerve issue. He only recently began throwing again, with his first session of catch taking place on Wednesday. If he's unable to make progress in his throwing program there's a good chance the injury could lead to season-ending surgery.

Josh Beckett (arm) began playing catch on Wednesday.
It's the first time he's thrown since being diagnosed with a nerve issue in his pitching arm a month ago. Beckett is optimistic that he can return to pitch this season, but the possibility of season-ending surgery is there if he doesn't feel right while ramping up his throwing program.

Wed Jun 5 201321:02Josh Beckett could need season-ending surgery
Josh Beckett said he'll undergo season-ending surgery if rest and rehab for a nerve issue in his pitching arm doesn't work.
The right-hander noted that he's "absolutely" confident he'll pitch this season, but there's a level of uncertainty involved. He'll be shut down for the next four weeks before trying to throw again. If Beckett does ultimately need an operation, he expects to be ready for next season.

Wed Jun 5 201319:32Mattingly unsure Beckett returns this season
When asked Wednesday if Josh Beckett (arm) would return this season, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said "I can't say I'm certain at all."
Mattingly is obviously feeling pessimistic shortly after Beckett was shut down for a four weeks due to a nerve problem in his right arm. More should be known after the four weeks are up, as obviously there's a lot of uncertainty around the situation. Given that he'll have to build his arm back up after the shutdown period, Beckett is probably out until well after the All-Star break at the very least.

Josh Beckett will not need surgery for a nerve issue in his pitching hand.
That's the good news. The bad news is that the Dodgers still aren't sure when he might return. "I don't feel like it's around the corner," manager Don Mattingly said. Beckett originally landed on the DL with a groin issue, but the nerve problem is definitely more of a concern. It's not clear what the next step is for the right-hander.

Josh Beckett (groin) has been temporarily shut down from his throwing program after he felt tingling in his fingers.
Beckett reported feeling fine after he threw 15 pitches off the mound Saturday, so it's not clear when the tingling occurred. Either way, it's a setback and he'll go for an MRI on Tuesday. The veteran right-hander has been out since May 14 with a strained left groin and will have his absence stretch into June.

Tue May 14 201308:39Josh Beckett (groin) could be placed on DL
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said that Josh Beckett left Monday's start after three innings in part because he slightly strained his right groin muscle.
Beckett suffered the injury when he covered first base on a ground out in the third inning. While he insists that he's "healthy enough to pitch," the Dodgers could place him on the disabled list to make room for Zack Greinke's return. The veteran right-hander is 0-5 with a 5.19 ERA through eight starts this season.

Tue May 14 201303:23Beckett falls to 0-5 Monday against Nationals
Josh Beckett dropped a decision to the Nationals after giving up four runs -- two earned -- in three innings Monday.
He struck out five and walked two. Beckett's peripherals continue to suggest third or fourth major league starter, while his performance screams Triple-A fodder. Through eight starts, he's posted a nice 41/15 K/BB rate, but struggles with runners on base have, in part, left Beckett with an 0-5 record and 5.19 ERA. Don't bet on success Sunday against the Braves.

Thu May 2 201302:20Josh Beckett allows five runs in loss
Josh Beckett lost to the Rockies after giving up five runs -- four earned -- in four innings Wednesday.
A Hanley Ramirez error kicked off a three-run rally for the Rockies in the top of the first, and Beckett allowed two more runs in the fourth before departing. After six starts, he has a rather nice 31/11 K/BB ratio in 34 1/3 innings. However, he's really struggled with men on base, something that's carried over from last season. As a result, he's 0-4 with a 5.24 ERA.

Sat Apr 27 201301:43Josh Beckett allows three runs to Brewers
Josh Beckett pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs Friday against the Brewers.
Beckett is still looking for that first win. He's allowed more than three earned runs just once in five starts, but he's also had just one truly strong outing (that coming in a 1-0 loss to Arizona). He's a matchup guy at best in mixed leagues right now.

Josh Beckett pitched a complete game six-hitter in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
Beckett was highly efficient despite the hard luck loss, and allowed just one run to go along with nine strikeouts. The Dodgers offense didn't provide any run support. Beckett hasn't had any bad starts this season and owns a solid 3.25 ERA. He'll look to get his first win this weekend against the Orioles.

Thu Apr 4 201301:36Josh Beckett takes loss to Giants
Josh Beckett yielded five runs -- three earned -- in six innings Wednesday in a loss to the Giants.
Pablo Sandoval and Hunter Pence homered off Beckett. Sandoval's homer, a two-run shot in the third, came after a Skip Schumaker error that prevented Beckett from getting out of the inning. We have pretty modest expectations for Beckett this year. He's a borderline mixed-league starter at the moment.

Sat Mar 30 201301:42Josh Beckett knocked around by Angels
Josh Beckett's spring finale didn't go exactly as planned on Friday, as he surrendered seven runs on nine hits over his 4 innings of work.
On the bright side, Beckett did record five strikeouts in the game without issuing a free pass. A perennial slow starter, he wraps up the spring schedule with a 7.79 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 17/6 K/BB ratio in 17 1/3 innings. He's likely to get the ball in the Dodgers' third game of the season, against the Brewers in Milwaukee on Wednesday.
