Wed Aug 28 201320:11Carlos Quentin will not return this season
Carlos Quentin will be shut down for the remainder of the 2013 season with a strained right knee.
He will undergo surgery to repair his injured knee, though that date has yet to be determined. With the Padres out of playoff contention, there is no reason to rush him back and risk further injury. The perpetually injured Quentin finishes the season hitting .275/.363/.493 with 13 homers and 44 RBI in just 276 at-bats.

Sun Aug 25 201311:07Carlos Quentin showing 'marked improvement'
Padres manager Bud Black said that Carlos Quentin (knee) has shown "marked improvement" over the last two days while running on a treadmill.
Due to the improvement with Quentin's right knee, the Padres have put off making a decision on his status for the rest of the season. He'll need to run on the field before it's decided whether he'll make it back sometime next month, though when the test run will take place hasn't been determined yet.

Fri Aug 23 201323:41Carlos Quentin to test knee on Saturday
Carlos Quentin will test his injured knee on Saturday to determine the next course of action.
Quentin received the third of three lubricant injections in his strained right knee last week, and the threat of season-ending knee surgery still looms large. Quentin has been hitting in the cage and doing strength training, but this will be the first real test of his knee. Fantasy owners shouldn't count on him to contribute the remainder of the season.

Mon Aug 19 201320:18Quentin (knee) 50/50 to return this season
Padres manager Bud Black estimated Monday that Carlos Quentin (knee) has a 50/50 shot to return this season.
"I wish I could be more confident than that, but I think the next week, we'll have a better handle on it," the manager said. Quentin will rest his nagging right knee for another week before ramping up activities. If he still has soreness at that point, it sounds like the Padres might decide to go ahead and shut him down. Another operation on the knee over the winter seems likely. Quentin has been limited to 82 games this season after playing just 86 last year.

Fri Aug 16 201319:24Carlos Quentin to rest for next ten days
Carlos Quentin (knee) will rest his knee for the next 10 days before the Padres' organization allows him to ramp up activities again.
And that's if his balky knee will even allow Quentin to do so. The veteran slugger was placed on the disabled list on August 10 with chronic soreness in his right knee, and could need another operation before all is said and done. While he's able to hit without any issues, he's not able to run or play the field defensively without significant pain.

Thu Aug 15 201321:00Carlos Quentin gets second opinion on knee
Carlos Quentin recently received a second opinion on his right knee at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles.
The results of the exam are not yet known, but Quentin remains out indefinitely for now. He's able to hit without much of an issue, but the outfielder can't run or play defense without significant pain. It sure sounds like he might need another operation on the chronically sore knee.

Carlos Quentin (knee) will not return from the disabled list on Thursday, the first day he's eligible.
Padres manager Bud Black said Tuesday that Quentin was still feeling some soreness in his right knee. "Carlos is in a situation where for him to do any baseball activities, it's painful, especially the defensive or on the running side," Black said. The skipper did add, though, that he hasn't "heard anything close" from the team's doctors that would suggest Quentin might not return this season.
