Carlos Quentin went 3-for-4 with a run scored in a loss to the Red Sox on Wednesday.
Quentin singled twice and doubled, scoring the Padres' only run of the game off Red Sox starter Jon Lester. Quentin is coming off a month of June in which he hit .366 with a 1.029 OPS, and he's now got a .276/.375/.485 line for the year.

Carlos Quentin hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer in Sunday's loss to the Marlins.
Quentin didn't get the start, but he plated the Padres' only runs by ripping a Chad Qualls hanging slider off the top and over the left-center field wall. It was Quentin's ninth homer this season even though he's only been healthy enough for 185 at-bats.

Padres manager Bud Black still thinks Carlos Quentin (shoulder) will avoid the disabled list.
Quentin missed a sixth straight start Thursday with a sore left shoulder, but he's feeling much better. "Carlos is doing better, he's feeling better," Black said. "He's getting closer to hitting in the cage. He feels much better, he's doing fine." It sounds like Quentin will likely return over the weekend.

The Padres were expecting Quentin to miss just one game after he aggravated his chronic knee injury on an awkward slide Monday. They changed their minds, though, deciding to give him the injection in hopes that he'll be ready on Friday after Thursday's off day. Jesus Guzman is playing left field Wednesday.
