Mon Jan 14 201316:32Giants willing to offer majors deal to Wilson
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants are willing to offer Brian Wilson (elbow) a major league contract.
The Mets have "strong interest" in Wilson and even watched him in a private workout on Saturday, but one source speculated to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York on Sunday that the club would prefer to sign him to a minor league contract. It's highly unlikely he'll be willing to agree to that, so the money is undoubtedly a factor, but he may also prefer to go somewhere which presents the best opportunity to close. That may not be San Francisco.

Sun Jan 13 201315:15Alderson 'not sure' if Mets will offer Wilson
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Sunday that he's "not sure" if the team will offer Brian Wilson a contract.
The Mets held a private throwing session for Wilson Saturday, and USA Today's Bob Nightengale said the team has "strong interest" in the closer. Evidently, though, it's not even a given that they'll extend him an offer. Wilson, of course, is coming back from Tommy John surgery but expects to be ready to go for Opening Day.

Sun Jan 13 201310:57Mets have 'strong interest' in Brian Wilson
USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Mets have "strong interest" in Brian Wilson.
Nightengale notes that Mets general manager Sandy Alderson watched Wilson during a private workout Saturday. It's not clear whether he threw off a mound during the workout, which is something he's expected to be cleared to do soon. The Mets would give Wilson their closer job, sending Frank Francisco to a setup role. "The Beard" is reportedly drawing interest from 9-10 clubs.

Wed Jan 9 201318:33Wilson (elbow) could throw off mound soon
The San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman reports that Brian Wilson (elbow) has completed his long-toss program and could throw off a mound soon.
So far, so good for the bearded closer, who has been told by Dr. James Andrews that he should be cleared for spring training and be ready by opening day. Schulman notes that the Giants are "still open to signing Wilson to a low base, high incentives" deal, but the righty is "keeping his deliberations on a new team close to the vest." He'll likely wait to sign until he shows teams he can throw off the mound with no issues.

Fri Dec 28 201218:01Brian Wilson generating plenty of interest
According to Scott Miller of CBSSports.com, Brian Wilson is generating plenty of interest on the free agent market, with as many as nine or 10 teams interested.
Wilson isn't close to signing anywhere, but has narrowed his list down to around five teams. The former Giants closer has been told by Dr. James Andrews that he will be cleared for spring training and be ready by opening day.

Wed Dec 5 201219:50Wilson will be cleared for spring training
Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown hears that Brian Wilson (elbow) has been told by Dr. James Andrews that he will be cleared for spring training and be ready by Opening Day.
It's been the sense all along, but it's good to have more clarity. Wilson was non-tendered by the Giants last week but shouldn't have trouble landing at the back-end of a bullpen somewhere, though he'll likely have to accept an incentive-laden, short-term deal.

Sun Dec 2 201218:07Dodgers not expected to sign Brian Wilson
According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers are not expected to pursue Brian Wilson.
Wilson has been linked to the Dodgers as a possible landing spot, but Hernandez was told by a source familiar with the team's thinking that they aren't looking to sign him. The Dodgers appear set to go forward with Brandon League, Kenley Jansen and Ronald Belisario in the back-end of their bullpen. Coming off Tommy John surgery, Wilson's market this offseason remains to be seen. The San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday that Wilson has "zero interest" in returning to the Giants.

Sat Dec 1 201213:04Brian Wilson not likely to sign with Giants
According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, Brian Wilson has "zero interest" in re-signing with the Giants.
The Giants non-tendered Wilson, but haven't ruled out bringing back him on an incentive-laden deal. However, multiple sources tell Schulman that the 30-year-old right-hander is upset with the organization's decision to release him and has told people he will sign elsewhere. Wilson is expected to be fully recovered from Tommy John surgery in time for the 2013 season. He figures to land a deal similar to Ryan Madson`s one-year, $3.5 million contract in free agency.

Sat Dec 1 201200:09Giants non-tender RHP Brian Wilson
Giants non-tendered RHP Brian Wilson.
It appears Wilson's tenure in San Francisco is coming to a close, as he is now free to negotiate with any team. There's been some chatter that the Dodgers and Red Sox could have interest, but there will surely be more teams involved. The 30-year-old right-hander is expected to be fully recovered from Tommy John surgery in time for the 2013 season.

Thu Nov 29 201208:46Red Sox 'may' have interest in Brian Wilson
According to Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald, the Red Sox "may" have interest in Brian Wilson.
Wilson will be non-tendered by the Giants on Friday, officially making him a free agent. The 30-year-old right-hander is said to prefer to continue his career on the West Coast, but he's a native of New Hampshire and will probably be open to heading back east if the price is right. Wilson is expected to be recovered from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery by Opening Day 2013.

Wed Nov 28 201213:39Wilson could be interested in joining Dodgers
Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports hears that Brian Wilson's first choice is to pitch for the Dodgers if a deal can't be worked out with the Giants.
The Giants are expected to non-tender Wilson before Friday's deadline, so he'll soon be free to negotiate with any team. Wilson lives in Los Angeles during the offseason, so the Dodgers make sense as a potential fit, but the Red Sox have also been mentioned as a possibility. He'll likely have to accept an incentive-laden deal coming back from Tommy John surgery.

Tue Nov 27 201210:22Giants likely to non-tender Brian Wilson
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants are likely to non-tender Brian Wilson.
Not a big surprise, as the Giants are reluctant to give Wilson a $6.8 million guarantee in arbitration coming off Tommy John surgery. While it makes sense as a baseball decision, Schulman hears that the two sides "aren't seeing eye to eye" at the moment. The Giants want to re-sign Wilson to a one-year deal for a significantly lower guarantee once he reaches free agency, but the bearded closer wants to be compensated for what he has done for the organization.

Tue Nov 20 201221:26Brian Wilson placed on 60-day DL
Giants placed RHP Brian Wilson on the 60-day disabled list.
Wilson, who, of course, is recovering from Tommy John surgery, was activated from the DL earlier this month, but the Giants put him back on it in order to clear space on the 40-man roster. The Giants are not expected to tender him a contract but will look to re-sign him at a lesser rate.

Fri Nov 9 201210:26Giants not expected to offer Wilson arb.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com writes that "it would be a shock" if the Giants offered Brian Wilson arbitration.
Wilson made $8.5 million this season, and the biggest pay cut he could receive through arbitration is 20 percent, meaning he would get a minimum of $6.8 million. It would be a tad risky to guarantee him that much while he's making his way back from a second Tommy John surgery, so Rosenthal expects the Giants to work out an incentive-laden, pre-arbitration deal.

Fri Oct 19 201215:32Brian Wilson throws Friday
Brian Wilson played catch Friday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery back in mid-April.
Wilson threw for about 10 minutes. "It felt great," he said afterwards. "Activate me." Assuming he can avoid setbacks, the right-hander should be ready to roll for the start of next season. Wilson is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter.

Wed Aug 22 201220:46Brian Wilson to resume throwing in October
Brian Wilson (elbow) will resume throwing on October 6.
Wilson's recovery from Tommy John surgery is going well, though obviously he hasn't been tested too much yet. "He looked good, healthy," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of the righty-hander. "Now, the beard didn't look too healthy." Wilson is expected to be ready for the start of next season.

Wed Apr 18 201219:46Brian Wilson to undergo Tommy John Thursday
Brian Wilson will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Thursday.
There was a slight bit of doubt that he would need it after an exam revealed a "moderate" sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament but not a full tear. But, this has been considered the most likely route, and Dr. James Andrews will cut Wilson open Thursday. It will be the second Tommy John procedure for the closer, and he could be sidelined into the 2013 campaign. Santiago Casilla will handle the closer role for the Giants for the time being.

Mon Apr 16 201221:05Brian Wilson has 'moderate' UCL sprain
Dr. Lewis Yocum diagnosed Brian Wilson with a "moderate" sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Wilson doesn't have a full ligament tear, and he'll get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews Wednesday before a final decision is made regarding surgery. Some pitchers choose to rehab Wilson's level of injury, but he certainly sounded on Sunday like a guy that was ready to have Tommy John surgery, and that's still the likely route. We'll know for sure later this week.
