Sun Apr 15 201216:07Giants place Wilson on DL, season likely over
Giants placed RHP Brian Wilson on the 15-Day disabled list, retroactive to April 13, with a right elbow sprain.
Wilson will undergo season-ending surgery to repair structural damage in his right elbow. He's seeking a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, but the bearded closer said he anticipates having another Tommy John surgery and missing the rest of the year. Sunday's roster move was procedural and Wilson will be shifted to the 60-day disabled list soon unless Dr. Andrews delivers miraculous news.

Sat Apr 14 201219:19Brian Wilson facing possible elbow surgery
According to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle, Giants closer Brian Wilson has structural damage in his elbow and faces possible surgery.
Uh oh. Shea also mentions that Wilson will possibly be meeting with Dr. James Andrews, which is never good news. Should Wilson need surgery, he'd be unlikely to return and contribute for the remainder of the season. In this case, Sergio Romo would step in as the likely closer and take on tremendous value in fantasy leagues everywhere. Stay tuned for further updates.

All the same, manager Bruce Bochy said Wilson won't be available for Friday's home opener after pitching on back-to-back days in Colorado. In addition to tweaking his ankle, Wilson needed 32 pitches to close out Thursday's 4-2 win, and surrendered a run in the process. Sergio Romo or Jeremy Affeldt will serve as stopper on Friday, with Wilson likely to be fine by Saturday.
