G J.R. Smith has been accused of choking a 19-year-old New York man while the team was in town last week to play the Knicks. He was not arrested nor questioned by police. "Things aren't being reported the right way," Smith said Saturday. "I just don't want to be a distraction to anybody else and I've just got to move forward."

G J.R. Smith had an X-ray on his right hand recently after it swelled up. Smith said it revealed a broken bone in the thumb that he never knew he had. It healed on its own and Smith said team doctors don't know when it occurred or how long ago, but it still swells occasionally when the hand gets hit.

SG J.R. Smith came into the game shooting just 25 percent (4-for-16) on 3-point attempts this season, well behind his career average of 37.1 percent.

While the exact structure of the deal has not been announced, Smith returning to the Cavs adds to the team's depth and provides another isolation scorer who will likely come off the bench. No matter his role, Smith will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing NBA Finals performance where he shot a poor 29 percent from behind the arc. When Smith was at his best with Cleveland last season, he took the team to another level offensively, so the Cavaliers are hoping he can do that once again on a more consistent basis for the 2015-16 season.

The mercurial guard, who played well through the first three rounds of the playoffs before imploding in the Finals, is said to be interested in returning to Cleveland, and the Cavaliers are believed to have mutual interest.

Smith hit just 29.4 percent of his 3-pointers in the Finals against the Warriors. He hit some late Game 6 3-pointers to make the final score more respectable than it might have been.

Smith's stats improved somewhat after coming from the woeful Knicks to Cleveland. With the Cavs, he provided 12.7 points and hit 39 percent of his 3-pointers. The mercurial guard indicated that he may opt out of his contract to see what he can fetch on the open market.

Smith is set to make $6.4 million next season if he exercises his player option, but after a successful half-season in Cleveland, he'll likely test the market in hopes of landing a longer-term deal. While Smith was atrocious in six Finals games, he shot better than 45 percent from the field through the first three rounds, and Cleveland will probably attempt to bring him back at the right price.

Smith scored 15 of his 19 points (5-15 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 5-8 FT) in the fourth quarter, spearheaded by three three-pointers in the final 90 seconds. He added five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 34 minutes off the bench in Tuesday's 105-97 loss.

Smith struggled shooting from the field during the NBA Finals, converting 31 percent of his shots and 29 percent of his three-pointers. He finished the series averaging 11.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.5 three-pointers in 33.6 minutes per game.

Smith started the second half and finished the game with 14 points (5-15 FG, 4-14 3Pt), seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and one steal in 36 minutes in Sunday's Game 5 loss.

Smith replaced Timofey Mozgov coming out of halftime and was held scoreless in the second half, missing his final six attempts. He's attempting 8.4 three-pointers per game during the NBA Finals and converting at a 26 percent clip.

Smith missed all eight three-point attempts and finished the Game 4 loss with four points, two rebounds, and two assists in 28 minutes on Thursday against the Warriors.

Smith is shooting 25 percent from downtown in the NBA Finals and averaging more fouls per game (3.3) than assists, steals, blocks, and turnovers combined in 33.0 minutes per game. To top it all off, Smith was a game-low minus-27.

Smith scored 13 points (5-13 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT) with four rebounds before fouling out after 38 minutes in the win over Golden State on Sunday.

Smith had a number of crucial fouls down the stretch as the Warriors rallied to tie the game. He struggled from the field in the two games at the Oracle (8-of-26, 30.8 percent), so he may enjoy some home cooking in Game 3 on Tuesday.

Smith scored nine points (3-13 FG, 3-10 3Pt) with four assists in 34 minutes in the loss to Golden State on Thursday.

Smith missed more 3-pointers in Game 1 of the Finals than he had in any other playoff game this season. If Kyrie Irving (knee) is out, Smith will need to be more aggressive - particularly within the arc.

Smith posted a double-double in Game 4 Tuesday, tallying 18 points (7-14 FG, 4-10 3Pt), 10 rebounds, and three assists in 29 minutes.

Smith has been an electrifying spark off the bench for the Cavaliers this postseason, averaging 13.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.4 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game in 30 minutes. His ability to score the ball and provide hustle plays make him invaluable to an ailing Cavs team with scorers like Kevin Love (shoulder) missing the rest of the playoffs and Kyrie Irving (foot/knee) still hobbled after missing two games. Though Smith will not provide a double-double every night, the fact that he's playing over 30 minutes per game despite coming off the bench should keep him relevant in daily games the rest of the way.

Smith provided 17 points (6-14 FG, 3-9 3Pt, 2-3 FT) with 10 rebounds in 38 minutes in the overtime win against Atlanta on Sunday.

Smith bounced back from a quiet Game 2 (nine points). He has been active on the boards with at least eight rebounds in three of his last four games. It looks like Smith's 28-point outburst in Game 1 was the exception rather than the rule, but he is the leader of the Cavalier offense when LeBron James sits.
