Sat Dec 15 201204:15Scola plays 13 minutes in win over Jazz
Luis Scola played just 13 minutes in another start at power forward on Friday, scoring four points on 2-of-8 shooting with five rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
The Suns won tonight so Alvin Gentry will feel emboldened in his rotation, which is not a good sign for Scola's waning fantasy value. We told owners to be patient the last time out, but if you want to cut him for a hot free agent after this result we wouldn't blame you.

Thu Dec 13 201203:10Luis Scola starts, then disappears for Suns
Luis Scola started over Markieff Morris at power forward on Wednesday, but played just 13 minutes and scored four points on 1-of-6 shooting.
There were no reports of an injury, meaning this is just a really weird stat line. Morris had 11 points, four boards, two steals and two blocks in 29 minutes off the bench, as Alvin Gentry benched four of his starters to start the second half, with only Jared Dudley making the cut. There's likely more to this story, and if you recently acquired Scola with the news he would be back in the starting lineup, just hang onto him until we get some details.

Wed Dec 12 201213:31Scola back to starting five, Morris benched
Luis Scola will rejoin the starting five on Wednesday, sending Markieff Morris to the bench.
The Suns are looking to shake things up right now, and Scola's demotion to the bench was never thought of as a permanent move. It's unclear how playing time will shake out between the two with the new switch, so owners of both should keep a close eye on this one.

Sun Dec 9 201223:35Scola plays just 16 minutes in Suns' loss
Luis Scola played a season-low 16 minutes in Sunday's loss to the visiting Magic.
The veteran PF scored 11 points but had just two rebounds and was torched defensively during his brief time on the court. His bench role is doing him no favors, but the situation seems fixed for the moment as starting PF Markieff Morris had 10 points and five boards in 32 minutes.

Sat Dec 8 201219:26Luis Scola double-doubles in 24 minutes
Luis Scola logged his fourth double-double on the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while adding one steal and one block in 24 minutes against the Clippers on Saturday.
Scola has really turned it around and he's been getting extra minutes at center while Marcin Gortat continues to struggle. Scola has earned his must-own status back with an eye-catching December.

Fri Dec 7 201201:53Scola just misses double-double on Thursday
Luis Scola came one rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds with three assists and two steals against the Mavericks on Thursday.
Scola has strung together three solid games in a row and appears to be back in the good graces of Alvin Gentry. Those that stayed patient with the Argentine should feel pretty good and owners in shallow leagues might want to check to see whether or not he's floating around on the waiver wire.

Sun Dec 2 201215:08Luis Scola flirts with double-double Sunday
Luis Scola had nine points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes in a 106-99 loss to the Knicks on Sunday.
Markieff Morris only saw 18 minutes of action and scored just six points. Scola's minutes have been trending down and he's played in just 23.6 minutes per game over his last five. He never really had much of an upside, but his owners should hold him unless it's to grab a hot free agent.

Fri Nov 30 201221:51Scola plays 29 minutes off the bench
Luis Scola saw 29 minutes off the bench in Friday's loss to the Raptors, scoring eight points on 4-of-13 shooting with three rebounds, three assists, and one block.
Scola has mid-round value on the year but his minutes have been a mess lately. Tonight's line wasn't the greatest, but the minutes are a step up and there's enough value here for him to be owned in most, if not all formats.

Wed Nov 28 201211:00Luis Scola angling to return to starting five
Luis Scola is hopeful that the Suns can get him back "to a role that I feel comfortable with in the future."
Doesn't sound like a guy who is happy about coming off the bench, does it? Scola had 14 points, four boards, a steal and a block on Tuesday, and with Markieff Morris having cooled off, it's plausible Alvin Gentry will reinsert Scola back into the starting five at some point.

Tue Nov 27 201221:57Luis Scola scores 14 in 24 minutes
Luis Scola had 14 points, four rebounds, a steal and a block on 6-of-10 shooting in 24 minutes off the Suns bench on Tuesday.
Markieff Morris has cooled off and Scola is simply too good a player to wallow on the bench all season. The two forwards are in a true timeshare right now, but Scolas is a proven commodity and it's hard to imagine him not turning it around soon. Hopefully tonight was a step in the right direction.

Sun Nov 18 201201:39Gentry: Changes coming in Suns' starting five
Alvin Gentry said after Saturday's loss that he will make changes to the Suns starting lineup.
Gentry didn't say what exactly he'd do, but the most likely suspects to get benched are Jared Dudley, Michael Beasley and/or Luis Scola (who played just 15 minutes on Saturday). They would probably be replaced by Shannon Brown, P.J. Tucker and/or Markieff Morris, respectively, but that's all speculation. It's equally possible that Gentry will cool off tonight and change his mind, so don't do anything drastic until we know more.

Sun Nov 18 201200:23Luis Scola plays just 15 mins in loss to Heat
Luis Scola played just 15 minutes on Saturday, though no injury has been reported.
We'll keep an eye out for a better explanation, but Scola began the game with a turnover and wound up 1-of-5 from the field, while Markieff Morris got hot off the bench, so it's possible he was just benched by Alvin Gentry. This marks the fifth time Scola has logged under 29 minutes in a game this year.

Sun Nov 11 201200:26Luis Scola bounces back w/ 21 points
Luis Scola bounced back from a couple of quiet games, scoring a team-high 21 points on 7-of-19 FGs and 7-of-7 FTs.
The veteran added 11 rebounds and two steals with just one turnover in 35 minutes. He was coming off consecutive games with single-digit points but should settle in around 15 points and eight rebounds per game.

Sat Nov 10 201205:20Scola plays 25 minutes vs. Cavs
Luis Scola played just 24 minutes against the Cavs on Friday, scoring five points on 2-of-6 shooting with six rebounds, one assist, two steals, one block, and four turnovers.
Alvin Gentry went heavy with his second unit, playing them almost as much as the starters so Scola, Michael Beasley (nine points, four boards, five assists), and Jared Dudley (eight points) all saw their minutes clipped. As for Scola and Beasley, owners should lick their wounds and move onto the next game.

Tue Nov 6 201202:26Scola comes back to earth in blowout loss
Luis Scola came back to earth in Monday's blowout loss to the Heat, scoring 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting with eight rebounds and one steal in 33 minutes.
Scola has been on fire and this is more in line with what we'd expect for a night-to-night baseline performance. He attempted (and missed) another three tonight, too, which would be a nice bonus if he can start hitting them with any regularity. Goran Dragic kept his foot on the gas with 13 points, nine assists, and two steals, and Marcin Gortat narrowly missed becoming the first Suns player since Oliver Miller in 1994 to have three blocks in four straight games, going for 12 and 13 with two swats.

Sun Nov 4 201220:51Luis Scola scores season-high 24 vs. Magic
Luis Scola scored a season-high 24 points in Sunday's road loss, going 10-of-19 from the field with seven rebounds, four assists, one steal, one block and zero.
Scola is starting to heat up offensively, and he's padded his stats with five steals and four blocks in his first three games, an unexpected bonus for fantasy owners. Phoenix needs him to be aggressive if they want to win, so we don't expect a dropoff from the veteran Argentine.

Thu Nov 1 201202:36Luis Scola posts big line in loss
Luis Scola not only had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, but added three steals and three blocks in Wednesday's loss.
That is a very un-Scola-like line, but is very encouraging nonetheless. If he could simply post a steal and a block per game his fantasy value would increase greatly, so here's to hoping he can keep it going. But we're not going to hold our breath.

Wed Oct 24 201201:40Luis Scola scores 16, doesn't do much else
Luis Scola scored 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go with three assists, two rebounds and one steal in 22 minutes Tuesday.
The 16 points were a high for Scola this preseason, but the former Rocket is coming off a season in which his point and rebound averages and shooting percentages all slipped. His fantasy value is limited by his minuscule career average of 0.3 blocks per game.

Wed Aug 15 201209:27Blanks: Scola gives us griminess, crustiness
Suns GM Lance Blanks said that Luis Scola will provide "griminess and crustiness that we need."
That has got to be one of the weirdest things we've heard a GM say about a player he's acquired, and we're really not sure what he means by "crustiness." Regardless, Blanks expects Scola to set an example for the younger players and he should have a major role as the starting PF for Phoenix. Scola averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds on 49.1 percent shooting last season, all down from his averages in 2010-11.

Mon Jul 16 201208:27Alvin Gentry excited by Luis Scola addition
Suns coach Alvin Gentry said Luis Scola will bring "leadership" to the Suns.
"That guy's a heck of a player," Gentry said. "He brings leadership. It's just a great guy to add to your team." Gentry was not shy in his praise, adding "He really understands how to play. I'm excited about it." Scola should be ticketed for a major role right away alongside Marcin Gortat in the Phoenix frontcourt.
