Thu Dec 15 202218:46Phillies Interested In Seth Lugo As A Reliever
The Philadelphia Phillies are showing interest in free-agent right-hander Seth Lugo, but likely as a relief pitcher. Lugo prefers to start and has received a lot of interest this offseason for a rotation spot, with the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals among his other suitors. The 33-year-old veteran was very solid for the New York Mets the last two years strictly as a reliever, posting a 3.56 ERA (3.77 FIP), a 1.22 WHIP, four saves and 124 strikeouts in 111 1/3 innings over 108 appearances out of the bullpen. Lugo wouldn't be a closing candidate in a revamped Phillies bullpen if he lands there. The best guess is that he's holding out for a starting gig elsewhere. He has made 38 career starts in seven major-league seasons, with his most recent start coming back in 2020.

Fri Dec 9 202213:22Seth Lugo Attracting Interest From Three Teams
The Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals are pursuing free-agent right-hander Seth Lugo. He's likely to be given a chance to start in 2023 and has flexibility to pitch in relief as well. The Nationals just signed swingman Trevor Williams on Friday, but they could also add Lugo to give them additional pitching depth. Lugo, 33, has served as an effective swingman for the New York Mets for the last seven seasons, and he went 3-2 with a 3.60 ERA (3.76 FIP), a 1.17 WHIP, three saves and a 69:18 K:BB in 65 innings over 62 relief appearances in 2022. He hasn't been as effective in recent seasons as he was in 2019, but he's very useful for his ability to start and pitch in relief.

Wed Dec 7 202214:35Seth Lugo Drawing A Lot Of Interest To Start
Free-agent pitcher Seth Lugo is reportedly "drawing a lot of interest to start," per a tweet from The New York Post's Jon Heyman on Wednesday morning. Lugo pitched as a reliever for the New York Mets last season, logging a 3.60 ERA and a 3.76 FIP in 65 innings. In those 65 innings, which came over the course of 62 appearances, the 33-year-old also logged 69 strikeouts, 18 walks, three wins, three saves and 16 holds. Of the right-hander's 275 career appearances in the majors, 38 have been starts, including seven most recently during the 2020 season. The Mets don't appear to be interested in Lugo as a starter, so he's unlikely to re-sign with them.

Mon Nov 14 202214:59Seth Lugo Reportedly Drawing Interest As A Starter
Free agent pitcher Seth Lugo is reportedly drawing interest from teams as a starting pitcher, per an article in The Athletic from Will Sammon. Lugo enjoyed a solid season out of the bullpen for the New York Mets in 2022, pitching to a 3.60 ERA and a 3.76 FIP in 65 innings of work. He also turned in 69 strikeouts compared to just 18 walks allowed while registering three saves, three pitcher wins, and 16 holds. As Sammon noted in his article, Lugo has 194.2 innings under his belt as a starter at the Major League level. As of now, New York's current bullpen options ahead of closer Edwin Diaz include the likes of right-handers Drew Smith, Stephen Nogosek, Yoan Lpez, John Curtiss, and Bryce Montes De Oca as well as left-hander Tayler Saucedo.

Tue May 3 202221:53Seth Lugo Records Second Save On Tuesday
New York Mets pitcher Seth Lugo allowed one hit across a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's Game 2 win over the Atlanta Braves. Edwin Diaz pitched Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader, and manager Buck Showalter turned to Lugo to close out the nightcap. The 32-year-old retired three of four hitters he faced to earn his second save of the season. He now owns a 3.48 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 10 strikeouts over 10 1/3 innings in 2022. Lugo has racked up two saves and four holds this year and is worth rostering in deep-league formats or leagues that rewards the category solds.

MIAMI (AP) — Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. will have season-ending surgery to repair a completely torn ACL in his right knee after he was injured during Atlanta’s 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins on Saturday. An MRI showed the severity of the injury and the Braves made the announcement shortly before midnight that their three-time All-Star will be out until at least next year.
