Fri Aug 12 201110:25Boesch without a return date
The Tigers have yet to establish a timetable for Brennan Boesch's (sprained thumb) return.
"We've got to get the swelling out -- he didn't have a lot of swelling -- and get him to a pain-free range of motion and start him back into activity," were the words of head Tigers trainer Kevin Rand. "When that will be remains to be seen." For now, don't count on having Boesch in your weekly league next week, though his status could change rather quickly.

X-rays on Brennan Boesch's right thumb have come back negative.
He's slated for an MRI Thursday, but the feeling amongst the Tigers is that the injury is not serious. As a matter of fact, Boesch wouldn't rule out playing in Thursday's game, but it's unlikely he'll be able to do so.

Brennan Boesch left Wednesday's game in the second inning with a right thumb injury.
It's an aggravation of a sprain that he suffered earlier this season. The Tigers are sending Boesch for X-rays, though they are saying they're just precautionary. We'll update his condition when more is known. Don Kelly replaced Boesch in left field.

Brennan Boesch went 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBI on Friday, singling home the winning run in Detroit's 4-3, 10-inning win in Kansas City.
His triple came in the first, so Boesch's hits were nine innings apart this evening. The two-RBI night gives him 54 on the season, while he's now sporting an excellent .294/.349/.483 triple slash.

Tue Jun 7 201100:02Boesch erupts for five hits and two home runs
Brennan Boesch erupted in Detroit's 13-7 win over the Rangers on Monday evening, going 5-for-6 with a double, two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored.
Boesch tagged Colby Lewis for a three-run bomb in the first before getting him for a solo shot in the third. Both the five-hit night and two-homer game were the first of his career. Now the owner of a .278/.338/.449 triple slash to go along with seven home runs and 32 RBI, he can no longer be ignored in shallower mixed leagues.

Sun May 29 201123:06Brennan Boesch drives in two in doubleheader
Brennan Boesch drove in runs in both games of Sunday's doubleheader against the Red Sox.
Boesch had a solo homer in the opener and an RBI double in game two. He had been struggling of late, and unless this is the start of another surge, he could lose playing time once Magglio Ordonez comes off the disabled list.

Thu May 5 201116:18Brennan Boesch homers in win over Yankees
Brennan Boesch went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI to lead the Tigers to a 6-3 win over the Yankees on Thursday.
The homer came off lefty specialist Boone Logan. The left-handed-hitting Boesch has hit .348 and slugged .553 in 132 at-bats versus southpaws in his career. His OPS is more than 250 points lower against right-handers, but the Tigers are playing him regularly at the moment.

Tue May 3 201116:11Boesch will likely bat third Wednesday
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Tuesday that Brennan Boesch will likely bat third in Wednesday's game against Freddy Garcia and the Yankees.
In turn, the struggling Magglio Ordonez will be pushed down in the order. Boesch will likely share playing time with Ryan Raburn once Victor Martinez returns from the disabled list, but he gets a nice short-term boost here.

Sat Apr 16 201101:37Tigers' Boesch delivers go-ahead double
Brennan Boesch went 3-for-5 with a go-ahead two-run double in the top of the 10th Friday in the Tigers' 8-4 win over the Athletics.
The Tigers were down 1-0 headed to the top of the ninth, but they tied it up on a Miguel Cabrera homer and then they blew the game open in the 10th. Boesch's big hit came off sidewinding left-hander Brian Fuentes, but that's not a shocker, given how much better he was against lefties than righties last season. Expected to be a bit player, he's already driven in nine runs this year.

Mon Apr 4 201103:28Boesch goes 4-for-4 in leading Tigers to win
Brennan Boesch went 4-for-4 with four runs and four RBI in the Tigers' first win of the season.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland made room for Boesch at DH by starting Victor Martinez at catcher. The move paid off, as Boesch smacked his first home run of the year to help pace Detroit's victory. His quick start helps erase last season's collapse, when he hit .163 in his final 68 games. He likely will battle fellow left fielder Ryan Raburn for playing time in 2011.

Sat Apr 2 201109:47Brennan Boesch getting start Saturday
Brennan Boesch is starting in left field Saturday.
It's noteworthy because most have pegged Ryan Raburn as the everyday left fielder, yet Boesch is in the lineup the first time the opposition sends a right-hander (A.J. Burnett) to the hill. Tigers manager Jim Leyland will likely play the hot hitter, and Boesch ended spring training on fire at the plate.

Fri Mar 18 201116:36Tigers get homers from Boesch, Dirks
Brennan Boesch and Andy Dirks both homered Thursday in the Tigers' 8-3 win over a Red Sox split-squad.
They're not making it easy: the Tigers have just one bench spot available for Boesch, Dirks, Casper Wells and Clete Thomas, but all four are having fine springs. Boesch is hitting .280 with two homers, which doesn't include his three-run homer in a college game last month. Dirks' homer was his first, but he's hitting .364 with four doubles and two triples in 44 at-bats. Boesch's performance in the first half of last year may give him the edge in the competition, but it will probably come down to the final days of March.

Fri Feb 25 201117:22Boesch homers in Tigers' 17-5 win
Brennan Boesch hit a three-run homer Friday as the Tigers beat Florida Southern 17-5.
It was 17-0 until Lester Oliveros gave up five in the top of the ninth. Andrew Oliver started for the Tigers and struck out three in two scoreless innings. Top prospect Jacob Turner took over in the third and went two scoreless himself. Boesch, who nearly made the All-Star team as a rookie last season, appears out of the mix for a starting job this spring with the Tigers committing to Ryan Raburn, but he can't be completely forgotten about. He might get a chance to take over as the left-handed hitter in a platoon if Raburn gets off to a slow start.
