Sun Aug 8 202117:21Luis Gil Strikes Out Eight In No-Decision
New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Gil put together another strong start in Sunday's loss to the Mariners. Gil pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and walks while fanning eight batters. He generated an impressive 17 whiffs, 10 of them coming on his fastball, which touched a maximum velocity of 98.9 MPH. Gil followed up his strong big-league debut with an equally capable encore, as the strikeout ability he flashed in the minors has played very well with the big club. He has fired 11 scoreless frames with a 14:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in two starts against the Orioles and Mariners. Gil is worthy of a roster spot if called upon to make another start for New York.

Wed Aug 4 202100:19Luis Gil Returned To Triple-A After Start Tuesday
New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Gil was returned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following his impressive start on Tuesday. The 23-year-old dazzled over six scoreless innings against the Baltimore Orioles but one of the "replacement players" following starting pitchers Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery's placement on the COVID-19 list, thus the roster move. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Gil get recalled for another start Sunday against the Seattle Mariners. More information should be available as the suddenly shorthanded Yankees approach the weekend and sort out a plan.

Tue Aug 3 202123:18Luis Gil Shines In MLB Debut
New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Gil went six scoreless in his MLB debut during a 13-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. The 23-year-old struck out six and allowed just four hits and one walk in the quality start. With Yankees starting pitchers Gerrit Cole, Jordan Montgomery, and Domingo German are on the shelf, Gil has been given an opportunity, in the short term, to make an impact in the Bronx. Gil has the ability to rack up strikeouts (13.0 K/9 in the minors), but also the propensity to issue free passes (13.0 BB/9). The Yankees right-hander will look to build on this start Sunday against the Seattle Mariners and is a worth a speculative add.

Tue Aug 3 202115:51Luis Gil Starting Tuesday For Yankees
New York Yankees pitching prospect Luis Gil is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Orioles. Manager Aaron Boone initially said that Nestor Cortes Jr. would start Tuesday night's game in place of Gerrit Cole, who tested positive for the virus- though it will be Gil, the fourth-ranked prospect in the organization. The 23-year-old possesses a mid-to-high nineties fastball with a hard slider but has struggled with control in the minors, posting a 1.34 WHIP in 61 innings across two levels. Despite that, Gil has shown no trouble striking out hitters, posting a 27.7 percent strikeout rate at the Triple-A level, something that could make him worth a look in DFS against an Orioles' team that ranks 18th in strikeout rate.
