Sun Apr 3 201100:17Fuentes allows three runs in late loss to M's
Brian Fuentes allowed three ninth-inning runs Saturday in the A's loss to the Mariners.
The game was at a 2-2 tie when Fuentes entered and the usually light-hitting M's pounced on him quickly, collecting three hits and a sacrifice before the damage was done. Fuentes has gained ownership in a ton of fantasy leagues since it was announced that Andrew Bailey was going to be placed on the 15-day disabled list, but the veteran lefty is quickly hurting his case.

Wed Jan 19 201116:29Fuentes' deal with A's worth $10.5 million
Brian Fuentes' new two-year contract is indeed worth $10.5 million.
Fuentes also scored a $6.5 million club option for 2013 from the A's. He is expected to serve as a setup man this season in Oakland and will probably only have fantasy value if something happens to closer Andrew Bailey. The 35-year-old Fuentes registered a cool 2.81 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 47/20 K/BB ratio over 48 innings for the Angels and Twins last year.

Wed Jan 19 201113:23A's finalize two-year deal wth Fuentes
Ahtletics signed LHP Brian Fuentes to a two-year contract with a club option for 2013.
Terms weren't disclosed, but he will reportedly earn $10.5 million over the length of the contract. With the recent additions of Fuentes and Grant Balfour, the A's now have one of the most impressive bullpens in the American League. Fuentes profiles as an elite left-handed specialist, though he's not a bad insurance policy for Andrew Bailey, who is working his way back from elbow surgery.
Mon Jan 17 201102:23A's finalize deal with Brian Fuentes
Following up on a Rotoworld story late yesterday, the A's and Brian Fuentes reportedly have finalized a two-year contract.
Entering 2011, the A's now have a fearsome bullpen to go with a young and talented starting rotation. For a team that gave up the fewest runs in the American League last season, the A's amazingly could be even better this season.

Sun Jan 16 201116:50Report: A's close to signing Fuentes
The A's are close to signing free agent Brian Fuentes, according to AOL Fanhouse's Steve Phillies.
Scratch one more possibility to close for the Rays. That's one heck of a pen the A's are going to have if the group stays relatively healthy. In fact, they probably have some depth to deal from if they want to cash in Michael Wuertz or Craig Breslow. Fuentes would serve as a setup man in front of Andrew Bailey.

Sat Jan 15 201111:58Report: A's hot on the trail of Brian Fuentes
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi are reporting that the A's are "pushing to add" free agent Brian Fuentes.
The A's just added Grant Balfour to a bullpen that's already pretty good, but evidently they're not done yet. Fuentes has maintained a desire to close, which he wouldn't get a chance to do in Oakland with Andrew Bailey around, but he probably wouldn't mind setting up if he gets the dollar amount he's looking for. Sources have told Rosenthal that Fuentes will likely end up getting a deal in the two-year, $12 million range. The Blue Jays and possibly the Rays are also after the southpaw.

Fri Jan 14 201122:42Report: Blue Jays still in mix for Fuentes
FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Blue Jays are still interested in Brian Fuentes.
SI.com's Jon Heyman reported two days ago that the Jays were making a push to sign the left-hander. At this point it appears the Rays might be Toronto's only real competition, and they have done their best to avoid spending money at all costs. Fuentes would likely be the favorite to close over Octavio Dotel if he winds up with the Blue Jays.

Wed Jan 12 201119:45Jays 'pressing' for free agent Brian Fuentes
According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Blue Jays are "pressing" to acquire free agent reliever Brian Fuentes.
All they have to do is meet his lofty asking price. Fuentes, 35, registered a healthy 2.81 ERA and 47/20 K/BB ratio over 48 innings for the Angels and Twins last season and he has a ton of experience in the ninth inning. The Jays could decide that his demands are too high, just like many other clubs have, and stick with their plan to use Octavio Dotel in save situations.

Sun Jan 9 201112:09Pirates no longer in hunt for Brian Fuentes
The Pirates are no longer pursuing free agent reliever Brian Fuentes, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
SI.com's Jon Heyman tied the two together a few days ago, but the Bucs have no business paying big money for relievers and do not like Fuentes' current asking price. The left-hander is drawing interest from the Blue Jays, Red Sox, Rays, Yankees and Twins. He posted a strong 2.81 ERA and 47/20 K/BB ratio over 48 innings between the Angels and Twins last season.

Fri Jan 7 201117:28Report: Blue Jays interested in Brian Fuentes
Newday's Ken Davidoff hears that the Blue Jays have interest in Brian Fuentes.
The match makes sense, as David Purcey (5.33 ERA over 147 career IP) is currently Toronto's most experienced left-handed option. Fuentes has been telling teams he would like to close, but Toronto may give him the best chance to see save opportunities outside of Tampa Bay. He'd be smart to join a rebuilt Blue Jay bullpen devoid of talented left-handed competition.

Thu Jan 6 201114:00Fuentes telling teams he'd like to close
A source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com that Brian Fuentes is telling teams that he would like to close.
There's obviously big money in being a closer, it's just not clear where he would be a fit. We have heard that the Red Sox, Yankees, Rays and Twins are all interested in the 35-year-old southpaw, but the Rays are the only team that could give him a chance to close.

Thu Dec 30 201015:59BoSox, Yanks, Rays and Twins like Fuentes
Major league sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that the Red Sox, Yankees, Rays and Twins are among the teams interested in Brian Fuentes.
Some of the teams may view him as a left-handed specialist or set-up man, while the Rays, for example, would likely sign him to close. According to Rosenthal, Fuentes is looking for a multi-year contract worth $5 million per season. While that's reasonable for a closer, it would be a mighty pricey figure for someone in a specialist-type role.

Tue Dec 28 201015:38Report: 11 teams interested in RP Fuentes
The Red Sox are one of 11 teams with interest in free agent reliever Brian Fuentes, reports SI.com's Jon Heyman.
Heyman writes that the Blue Jays, Rays, Rockies, Mariners, Twins, Pirates, Phillies, Brewers, Yankees and Mets also have interest in Fuentes. The veteran left-hander is seeking a contract similar to Scott Downs', with ESPN.com's Buster Olney reporting last week he was looking for a three-year deal worth around $15 million. Money was flying around earlier this offseason to relievers Fuentes compares favorably with, but it's not yet clear if the music stopped before Fuentes grabbed a chair.

Tue Dec 28 201013:10Report: Red Sox still eying RP Fuentes
SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox are still eying free agent reliever Brian Fuentes.
Adding Fuentes to Jonathan Papelbon, Bobby Jenks and Daniel Bard would give Boston one of the more diverse and effective bullpens in baseball. Fuentes, however, is reportedly in search of a three-year deal worth around $15 million and it's unknown if the Red Sox will match those terms. The veteran southpaw produced a 2.81 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 2010 and held left-handed hitters to a .128/.122/.149 batting line.

Thu Dec 16 201016:29Fuentes seeking three-year, $15M deal
According to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, free agent reliever Brian Fuentes is in search of a three-year deal worth around $15 million.
And why wouldn't he be? Setup men are inking multi-year contracts left and right this offseason and Fuentes has as good of numbers as all of them. The southpaw finished the 2010 season with a 2.81 ERA and 1.06 WHIP, holding left-handed hitters to a .128/.122/.149 batting line.

Sun Dec 12 201008:15Report: BOS eying Fuentes, Crain, Guerrier
ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reports that the Red Sox are eying Brian Fuentes, Jesse Crain and Matt Guerrier as bullpen upgrades.
The Sox don't have anyone locked in from the left side in their bullpen, so Fuentes might make the most sense. Fuentes reportedly is seeking $6-8 million per season and still wants to be a closer, but he seems unlikely to get either of his wishes.

Fri Dec 10 201019:15Yanks likely to target Fuentes, Feliciano
The New York Post's Joel Sherman expects the Yankees to go after Brian Fuentes or Pedro Feliciano now that Scott Downs is off the market.
Sherman writes that the Yankees weren't really in hard on Downs, anyway, because they didn't want to give up their first-round draft pick. Fuentes is reportedly looking for $6-8 million per season on his new contract, which would seem to suggest he still wants to be a closer. Feliciano would be a cheaper option.

Mon Dec 6 201010:34Red Sox have interest in lefty Brian Fuentes
Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox have expressed interest in free agent reliever Brian Fuentes.
The Red Sox decided to non-tender Hideki Okajima earlier this month and are hoping to add a setup man to fill the gap. Fuentes posted a solid 2.81 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 48 innings this past season for the Angels and Twins. He also held left-handed hitters to a .128/.222/.149 batting line.

Tue Nov 23 201022:54Twins decline arbitration to Fuentes
The Twins declined to offer arbitration to Brian Fuentes.
Fuentes just completed a two-year, $17.5 million contract and isn't likely to see that type of money again. At this point in his career, he is what he is -- an elite left-handed specialist. He'll have no problem latching on with another organization, though we doubt he will get an immediate opportunity to close.

Fuentes struck out one and allowed no baserunners.
