Wed Apr 28 201022:21Fuentes picks up the win
Brian Fuentes pitched a perfect top of the ninth inning in a tie game and then picked up a win when the Angels beat the Indians in the bottom of the inning.
Fuentes got into a little jam after giving up a bunt single followed by a base knock, but wiggled his way out of it. Fernando Rodney worked a clean eighth inning and the roles look pretty defined right now.
Thu Apr 22 201012:23Scioscia says Fuentes will remain closer
Angels manager Mike Scioscia indicated that despite his blown save on Wednesday, Brian Fuentes is still his preferred option in the ninth inning.
"That's not a dilemma having somebody throwing the ball as well as Fernando is," said Scioscia. "Brian Fuentes pitched well in the one game he saved early and had a big year for us last year. Once we give this thing some time, get things settled and let guys get into some roles, we'll adjust from there. But Brian's going to be at the back end." It looks like Scioscia will continue to run him out there, but chances are Fernando Rodney will have a say in things moving forward. Don't drop him just yet.

Thu Apr 22 201001:15Angels' Fuentes takes blown save, loss
In his return from the DL, Brian Fuentes took a blown save and a loss after giving up two runs to the Tigers in the ninth inning Wednesday.
Common sense would have dictated that Jason Bulger would have remained in to face Miguel Cabrera to start the ninth after a lightning-quick eight-pitch eighth inning. Manager Mike Scioscia, though, went to his left-handed closer, and Cabrera immediately tied the game with a solo homer. The Tigers went on to take the lead on two walks and a single, even though Carlos Guillen did Fuentes a huge favor by getting picked off second for the second out of the inning. Fortunately, Gerald Laird advanced to second while Guillen was being run down, allowing Ramon Santiago to plate him with a single. Fuentes is probably safe for now, given that Scioscia has stated several times that he's the closer. Still, going back to good ol' common sense for a moment, there are going to be plenty of times in which Fernando Rodney is the better option.
Wed Apr 21 201014:41Angels activate Fuentes from 15-day DL
Angels activated RHP Brian Fuentes from the 15-day disabled list.
Fuentes is expected to reclaim the closer role immediately, though it's worth mentioning that Fernando Rodney successfully converted five save opportunities with five scoreless innings while he was on the disabled list. Fuentes is the closer in name, but Rodney still has plenty of value moving forward.
Tue Apr 20 201009:25Fuentes (back) ready to reclaim closer duties
Angels manager Mike Scioscia confirmed Monday that Brian Fuentes (back) will reclaim closing duties when he returns from the disabled list.
Rodney has been flawless since Fuentes went down with a back injury, saving three games with three perfect innings, but the role is still Fuentes' to lose. "Right now, Brian is going to pitch the ninth," Scioscia said. "If we have to adjust, we will." Fuentes, 34, is expected to return from the disabled list on Wednesday. We'd hang on to both of them.

Brian Fuentes threw off the mound Friday and expects to spend the minimum 15 days on the disabled list.
Fuentes is eligible to return on Wednesday, and that is the day he is targeting for his return. "The back feels good, and the bullpen session went well," Fuentes told the L.A. Times. "As of now, it seems like we're right on schedule."
