Sat May 14 201119:57Angels' Izturis has go-ahead single in win
Maicer Izturis delivered a ninth-inning go-ahead RBI single in 3-2 win over the Rangers on Saturday.
Izturis went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. He has now hit in 10 straight games and is batting .364 (16-for-44) this month. Howie Kendrick has been playing some left field since Vernon Wells hit the disabled list, so Izturis should continue to see plenty of playing time moving forward. As long as he can stay healthy, that is.

Maicer Izturis (hamstring) is in the Angels' starting lineup Monday against the Red Sox.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Maicer Izturis (hamstring) went through a full workout Friday.

Thu Apr 28 201103:47Izturis returns as pinch-hitter
After missing three straight games with a hamstring injury, Maicer Izturis assumed pinch-hitting duties Wednesday in the Angels' 2-1 loss to the Athletics.
He replaced Alexi Amarista in the ninth inning, and managed to get on base on a throwing error. Mark Trumbo then pinch-ran for him, and later scored the tying run. Izturis is expected to start Friday's game against the Rays.

Tue Apr 26 201119:06Maicer Izturis remains out of lineup
Maicer Izturis (hamstring) remained out of the lineup Tuesday.
It's the third straight game he's missed. The Angels didn't elect to place Izturis on the DL when they called Alexi Amarista up for infield help, suggesting that he should be back fairly soon, but with his history of recovering from injuries slowly, we can't be too sure. Alberto Callaspo is playing third again Tuesday.

Mon Apr 25 201117:57Angels' Izturis could be DL bound
Alexi Amarista has joined the Angels from Triple-A, leading the Los Angeles Times' Mike DiGiovanna to speculate that Maicer Izturis (hamstring) is going on the DL.
That's not necessarily the move: the Angels could always demote Matt Palmer to bring up Amarista if they think Izturis is just going to need a couple of days. Izturis, though, has always been awfully slow to recover from injuries. In his absence, the Angels will go with Alberto Callaspo at third base.

Sun Apr 24 201114:33Maicer Izturis scratched with tight hammy
Maicer Izturis was a late scratch from Sunday's lineup due to a tight hamstring.
Izturis has had previous issues with his hamstrings, so this can't be taken lightly. We'll update you on his condition when more is known. Howie Kendrick had been slated to start at first base Sunday, but he'll slide back over to second, with Mark Trumbo handling first.

Fri Apr 15 201123:39Maicer Izturis stays hot in win over Chicago
Maicer Izturis continued to play well in Erick Aybar's absence on Friday, going 3-for-5 with two RBI out of the leadoff spot in Los Angeles' win over the White Sox.
The RBI were his sixth and seventh. Izturis will not keep it up, and is headed back to the bench once Aybar is activated, but you could do worse for a bench option in your AL-only league.

Sun Apr 10 201104:09Izturis delivers game-winner for Halos
Maicer Izturis went 3-for-7 and delivered a game-winning single in the bottom of the 14th as the Angels beat the Blue Jays 6-5 on Saturday.
The Angels used nine pitchers in the contest and finally eeked out a win in the 14th after getting runners on first and third with no outs in both the 11th and 13th innings and failing to score. Izturis has now hit in seven straight to start the year.

Tue Mar 29 201103:41Angels' Izturis reaches three times in win
Maicer Izturis singled in a run and walked twice as the Angels' leadoff man Monday in a 5-4 win over the Dodgers.
Izturis is the Angels' preferred option in the leadoff spot, so he'll get as many starts as he can handle early on. Whether he can stay healthy while playing regularly remains to be seen. He was on the DL three times during a 2010 season in which he played just 61 games.

Thu Feb 24 201114:44Izturis to fill in around infield
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Thursday that Maicer Izturis will be a "primary player" this season, but he won't spend all of his time at third base.
In addition to spending time at third, Izturis will spell Howie Kendrick at second base and shortstop Erick Aybar at shortstop, giving Alberto Callaspo and possibly Brandon Wood at-bats at third base. "If he plays 100 games, it could be a 40-30-30 split or a 40-40-20 split," said Scioscia. "We talk about keys to the club, and a lot of it comes back to Izzy, for good reason." Izturis was limited to 61 games last season due to injury, but could have some value in mixed leagues due to his handy multi-position eligibility.

Mon Feb 14 201113:47Izturis is Angels' first choice to lead off
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Monday that Maicer Izturis is his first choice to lead off this season.
"When he's in the lineup, he will be leading off," said Scioscia. "With Bobby Abreu hitting second, that's as good a one-two punch as you can have." Scioscia was probably guilty of some hyperbole there, but Izturis is a superior option to Erick Aybar for the leadoff spot. Izturis doesn't have a clear role with the team, but figures to share playing time with Alberto Callaspo and back up second base and shortstop when needed. If he can stay healthy, Izturis could be worth a look in deeper leagues that use a middle infielder (MI) spot.

Maicer Izturis (shoulder) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI Monday in his return to the Angels' starting lineup.

Sun Sep 26 201010:36Izturis could play again this season
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said it's possible Maicer Izturis (shoulder) returns to play this season.
Izturis has been out since August 19 with an inflamed shoulder, but he's been working out. The utilityman has made three trips to the DL this season. If he does play again, it will likely be just in a token appearance or two.

Tue Sep 7 201010:39Angels hoping Izturis will return this season
The Angels are hopeful that Maicer Izturis (shoulder) will be ready to resume baseball activities by the end of this week.
Still, the clock is ticking toward the end of the season and Izturis is a longshot to make it back. He was diagnosed with inflammation in his right shoulder back in mid-August. If he is done, the 29-year-old turned in a .245/.312/.367 batting line, three homers and 25 RBI in 196 at-bats.

Sun Aug 22 201017:45Angels place INF Izturis (shoulder) on DL
Angels placed INF Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder.
Izturis injured the shoulder during Thursday's game while trying to make a diving stop on a Mike Lowell single. He was unable to play over the weekend, prompting the roster move, which will be his third trip to the disabled list this season.
Sat Aug 21 201015:20Izturis out again Saturday
Maicer Izturis (shoulder) is out of the lineup again Saturday.
It's the second game in a row he's missed, as Izturis was a late scratch from Friday's lineup. He says he's still "a little sore." It's not clear at this point how much longer Izturis will be out, but this doesn't seem like anything to worry about.

Fri Aug 20 201020:02Izturis scratched with sore shoulder
Maicer Izturis was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Twins due to a sore shoulder.
Izturis injured the shoulder during Thursday's game, but doesn't think it's serious. "Just diving on that last play, it's a little sore," said Izturis. "Right away, I feel it when I swing from the right side (in the batting cages today). I came in and got treatment. It's just a little sore today." Consider him day-to-day for now.
