Wed Feb 5 201421:26Orioles have interest in INF Emilio Bonifacio
The Orioles have some interest in Emilio Bonifacio, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports.
The Royals designated Bonifacio for assignment February 1 and they have 10 days from that date to trade or release him, with a trade being the most likely outcome. The Dodgers were another club believed to be a good fit, but they signed a similar player in Justin Turner to a minor league deal Wednesday. Bonifacio will make $3.5 million this season and could fill a utility role for the O's.

Sat Feb 1 201412:12Royals' Emilio Bonifacio for assignment
Royals designated INF/OF Emilio Bonifacio for assignment.
The surprising move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the recently signed Bruce Chen. The Royals apparently believe that the versatile Bonifacio was expendable after signing Omar Infante to serve as their everyday second baseman, and he should attract enough interest in the coming days that they'll be able to work out a trade. Fantasy owners should hope that he lands in a favorable spot with regular playing time, as his exceptional speed can be extremely valuable.

Sun Dec 1 201318:12Emilio Bonifacio attracting trade interest
Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports that Emilio Bonifacio has drawn trade interest from several clubs.
The 28-year-old performed well for the Royals down the stretch after arriving from Toronto, slashing .285/.352/.348 with 11 RBI and 16 stolen bases. Dutton also notes that the Royals may decide to tender a contract to Chris Getz, as an insurance policy in case they do decide to deal Bonifacio away. Fantasy owners can only hope that Bonifacio and his exceptional wheels wind up with a starting job someplace.

Sat Sep 14 201320:44Bonifacio ejected after slamming helmet
Emilio Bonifacio was ejected from Saturday's game against the Tigers after he slammed his helmet to the ground after getting picked off by Doug Fister in the third inning.
Bonifacio walked in the third inning, and was nabbed on a bang-bang play at first base during Eric Hosmer's at-bat. Replays showed that Bonifacio had every right to be upset, as he appeared to get back safely. He then threw his helmet, not in the direction of umpire James Hoye, but got the boot anyhow. Chris Getz replaced him in the lineup.

Sun Sep 1 201316:21Bonifacio swipes two bases in Sunday's win
Emilio Bonifacio went 2-for-4 with a walk, double, two steals, an RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's victory over the Blue Jays.
Bonifacio, who stole three bases in this weekend's series against his former team, may end up swinging some AL-only leagues with his legs. In 18 games since coming over from the Blue Jays, Bonifacio has swiped 11 bags (and hasn't been caught). He's batting .297 with the Royals after slashing just .218/.258/.321 earlier this year north of the border.

Emilio Bonifacio went 1-for-4 with an RBI and swiped his 21st base of the season in Friday's loss to the Blue Jays.
Bonifacio appears to have been rejuvenated since his trade to the Royals, hitting .281 (16-for-57) with three RBI in his first 16 games. He's also successfully swiped all nine bases that he's attempted to steal, after going just 12-for-18 as a member of the Jays.

Fri Aug 23 201300:07Emilio Bonifacio swipes two bases
Emilio Bonifacio went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two more steals Thursday against the White Sox.
Bonifacio has six steals in eight games since being picked up by the Royals on Aug. 14. Expect him to keep doing plenty of running while he's in the lineup. He might lose some time once Lorenzo Cain comes off the DL, but it's possible he'll begin picking up starts at second base.

Wed Aug 14 201313:08Royals acquire Emilio Bonifacio from Jays
Royals acquired INF/OF Emilio Bonifacio from the Blue Jays for cash considerations or a player to be named later.
Bonifacio has registered a brutal .218/.258/.321 batting line in 94 games with the Blue Jays this season, but the Royals apparently believe his speed and versatility will come in handy down the stretch. The Royals transferred Miguel Tejada to the 60-day disabled list in order to clear a spot for him on the 40-man roster.

Tue Jul 30 201316:01Report: Emilio Bonifacio could be moved
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal hears that Emilio Bonifacio is the most likely Blue Jays' player to be moved.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Blue Jays are also shopping Melky Cabrera, but teams could be reluctant to go after him for a variety of reasons. Rosenthal notes that the Jays have been mostly quiet in the days leading up to the trade deadline, so it's possible they'll do nothing.

Fri Jun 14 201303:15Bonifacio goes 1-for-3 with a steal, 2 runs
Emilio Bonifacio went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base on Thursday against the Rangers.
The 28-year-old has been a disappointment this year, batting just .208/.237/.315 over 168 at-bats. Bonifacio has two homers, eight steals and 11 RBI. He's nothing more than AL-only flotsam.

Sat May 25 201316:11Bonifacio connects for solo homer in loss
Emilio Bonifacio swatted his second home run of the season in Saturday's loss to the Orioles.
It was a solo shot. While fantasy owners will take the power, Bonifacio has been a disappointment otherwise this year. The 28-year-old is hitting just .212 with a .246 on-base percentage in 41 games and has only stolen four bases.

Mon Apr 22 201322:38Emilio Bonifacio returns to starting lineup
Playing in a full game for the first time in six days, Emilio Bonifacio went 0-for-2 with a walk on Monday.
Bonifacio had started one game since April 16, but he came out of that one for a pinch-hitter. He got a rare infield start tonight, but he did so from the ninth spot in the order, with Munenori Kawasaki leading off. It seems like the Blue Jays have really soured on Bonifacio, and we wonder if he might prove to be trade bait.

Sat Apr 13 201300:38Emilio Bonifacio appears at shortstop
Emilio Bonifacio made his season debut at shortstop Friday after Jose Reyes departed.
It's the first time he's played shortstop in a game since 2011, but he should now top the Jays' depth chart the position with Jose Reyes out. While the team will probably look outside the organization for alternatives, it should be Bonifacio's job in the meantime, with Maicer Izturis starting at second base and Mark DeRosa at third. Andy LaRoche could be called up to help out.

Thu Apr 11 201311:58Bonifacio getting day off on Thursday
Emilio Bonifacio is not in the Blue Jays' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Tigers.
Bonifacio has struggled defensively at second base and the Jays wanted to give him a day of mental rest. "He's playing hard. I don't think he has that personality to really get him down," Toronto manager John Gibbons told reporters on Thursday morning. "We'll give him a day off, but I'm not worried about Emilio." Maicer Izturis is starting at second and Mark DeRosa got the nod at third.

Wed Mar 20 201317:31Emilio Bonifacio hits second spring homer
Emilio Bonifacio went 3-for-4 and homered off Baltimore's Zach Britton on Wednesday.
With a .326/.367/.565 line in 46 at-bats, Bonifacio is blowing Maicer Izturis away at the moment. Speculation is that the Jays promised Izturis the starting job at second base when they signed him, but they may well be better off going with Bonifacio there. He should play plenty regardless.

Sat Mar 2 201315:45Emilio Bonifacio homers, doubles
Emilio Bonifacio homered off the Phillies' Cliff Lee and doubled in his two at-bats Saturday.
There's a decent case for making Bonifacio the Jays' primary second baseman, but it seems that they promised Maicer Izturis the job in order to entice him into signing. Bonifacio still figures to get plenty of playing time in a super-utility role, and his speed will give him some value in AL-only leagues.

Fri Jan 18 201311:50Emilio Bonifacio, Blue Jays avoid arbitration
Blue Jays avoided arbitration with 2B/OF Emilio Bonifacio by agreeing to a one-year, $2.6 million contract.
He gets a small raise in his second arbitration year after last season's $2.2 million salary. Injuries limited Bonifacio to just 64 games in 2012, but he still managed to steal 30 bases and will operate in a utility role for Toronto in 2013.

Wed Dec 5 201208:34Emilio Bonifacio may still be available
David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution hears that the Blue Jays may make Emilio Bonifacio available.
Bonifacio was just acquired last month as part of the 12-player blockbuster with the Marlins, but he may function as a super-utility type with Maicer Izturis poised to get most of the work at second base. So the Blue Jays are at least willing to see what's out there. For what it's worth, O'Brien notes that the Braves were interested in Bonifacio before he got traded to Toronto.

Mon Nov 19 201215:25Blue Jays acquire Bonifacio from Marlins
Blue Jays acquired INF/OF Emilio Bonifacio from the Marlins in a 12-player trade.
Bonifacio, 27, batted .258/.330/.316 with one home run, 11 RBI, 30 stolen bases and a .645 OPS in 64 games with the Marlins this season. He could be an option to start at second base, even though the Blue Jays recently added Maicer Izturis. Bonifacio earned $2.2 million this season and is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter.
