Thu Mar 27 201417:10Mejia dealing with bunion on right foot
Jenrry Mejia is currently dealing with a bunion on his right foot.
The issue forced him to leave his start on Sunday after five innings. Mejia says that his foot feels "good" now and doesn't expect it to be an issue in his start Friday, as he will wear something to relieve the discomfort, but Mets manager Terry Collins has voiced his concern about the situation. It's another factor to consider as Mejia battles it out with Daisuke Matsuzaka for the final spot in the rotation.

Tue Mar 25 201409:45Jenrry Mejia won't pitch in relief
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson confirmed Tuesday that Jenrry Mejia will not pitch in relief if he doesn't make the major league rotation.
In other words, Mejia will almost certainly pitch as a starter in Triple-A if he doesn't make the rotation. This is likely the way they'll go, as Daisuke Matsuzaka is considered the favorite for the fifth spot.

Sun Mar 23 201417:34Jenrry Mejia strikes out six Nationals
Jenrry Mejia exited after allowing one run and two hits in five innings and striking out six against the Nationals on Sunday.
Mejia is having problems with a bunion on his foot, and he got a visit from the trainer during the outing today. Nevertheless, the Mets have already said he'll start as planned Friday. Expectations are that he'll open the season in Triple-A, but maybe the Mets will surprise and pick him over Daisuke Matsuzaka for the last spot in their rotation. He's certainly the more interesting of the two for fantasy purposes.

Fri Mar 21 201411:18Mets unlikely to carry Mejia as reliever
Newsday's Marc Carig was told by a Mets source that the club is unlikely to carry Jenrry Mejia on the roster as a reliever.
Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reported earlier this week that the Mets were considering using Mejia in relief early on before eventually transitioning him into a starter role. Carig is hearing otherwise and says the No. 5 starter competition "remains wide open," with Mejia and Daisuke Matsuzaka battling it out. Fantasy owners are certainly rooting for Mejia to get the nod.

Sun Mar 16 201421:48Jenrry Mejia could begin season in bullpen
According to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, the Mets are considering starting Jenrry Mejia in the Opening Day bullpen, then transitioning him to the rotation midway through the season.
He had been competing with John Lannan and Daisuke Matsuzaka for the final spot in the Mets rotation, but the new plan would allow Mejia to help the team all season long, while also limiting his innings. He has a terrific arm, but shouldn't be relevant in mixed leagues until he joins the rotation.

Wed Mar 5 201416:39Jenrry Mejia strikes out three Nationals
Jenrry Mejia allowed an unearned run over two innings and struck out three Wednesday against the Nationals.
Mejia's own error led to the unearned run. He's easily the most interesting of the Mets' fifth starter candidates from a fantasy perspective, but since he's not a candidate to throw 180-200 innings this year, he might be sent down initially.

Jenrry Mejia (elbow) has been long-tossing from 100 feet with no issues.
Mejia hasn't thrown a bullpen session yet, but Mets Director of Latin American Operations Juan Henderson said the righty is "on the right track" in his recovery from surgery to remove a bone spur from his elbow. "He's still on his rehab program, which started down here," Henderson said. "Now he went to Port St. Lucie to continue it and he's doing very well." Assuming he's healthy, Mejia is the favorite to win the fifth spot in the Mets' rotation.

Sat Aug 17 201322:48Mejia dealing with right elbow discomfort
Jenrry Mejia left Saturday's game with right elbow discomfort.
He'll pitch the rest of the season with bone chips in his elbow, and it seems they got the best of him on Saturday. The good news is that it's likely not a new injury, so it may not be an affliction that causes him to miss any time. More should be known in the coming days about his availability going forward.

Sat Aug 17 201322:20Jenrry Mejia leaves game with apparent injury
Jenrry Mejia left Saturday's game against the Padres with an apparent injury.
Mejia threw two pitches in the fourth inning before exiting with the injury. He was throwing well before being removed, having given up four hits and a walk while striking out five through three innings. Carlos Torres made some starts earlier in the season for the Mets, so he might be an option to fill in for Mejia should the right-hander be sidelined for any period of time.

Wed Aug 7 201312:46Mejia lowers velocity to protect elbow
Jenrry Mejia said after Tuesday's start that he has stopped throwing as hard in an effort to protect his elbow.
Mejia has bone chips in his elbow which will require offseason surgery. While he didn't have a flare-up of symptoms Tuesday like he did last week, his average cutter velocity was at 91.79 mph, down from 93.92 mph in his first start on July 26. "You have to lower the velocity so you feel better during the course of the game," Mejia said in Spanish. "You can't throw hard. You need to throw intelligently so the arm doesn't start bothering you because everyone knows what I have. It's better to throw intelligently, throw strikes and get outs." Mejia has a 1.96 ERA and 18/3 K/BB ratio over 18 1/3 innings since coming up from the minors and should have value as a matchup play in mixed leagues if he can stay healthy the rest of the way.
