Fri Jul 26 201317:06Jenrry Mejia impresses in 2013 debut
Jenrry Mejia blanked the Nationals for seven innings, striking out seven, to earn a win Friday in his 2013 debut.
Mejia was very impressive, throwing 93-94 mph consistently and mixing in his slider and changeup. Not only did he go without a walk, but he got to three balls on just two of the 27 batters he faced. We wouldn't expect a whole lot of consistency from Mejia, but he's worth trying in NL-only leagues now. Mon Jul 22 201316:17Mejia could start Friday for Mets
Mets manager Terry Collins said that Jenrry Mejia (elbow) is one of three or four pitchers being considered to start in Friday's doubleheader against the Nationals.
Mejia, out for most of the season due to lingering elbow inflammation, has allowed one earned run in 11 innings over two starts since being assigned to Double-A Binghamton. His recent strong performance may give him the edge for the assignment over Chris Schwinden. Collins didn't dismiss the possibility of Rafael Montero getting a promotion, but he would have to be added to the 40-man roster. It's unlikely that will happen for a spot start.

However, he has made satisfactory progress over the past couple of weeks and could join High-A St. Lucie before long.
