Wed May 9 201211:47Rivera (knee) 'complication' is minor
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com hears that the "complication" involving Mariano Rivera (knee) is "minor" and it's "something that he wants to reveal."
Rivera's agent mentioned that his client ran into "complications" during his doctor visit on Monday, but he declined to go into any specifics. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman later told reporters that it won't have an impact on his ability to come back from a torn ACL in his right knee. Sounds like much ado about nothing.

Tue May 8 201210:54Complications won't impact Mo's comeback
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the reported "complications" during Mariano Rivera's doctor visit will have no bearing on his ability to come back from a torn ACL in his right knee.
Rivera's agent, Fernando Cuza, told George A. King III of the New York Post that his client "ran into complications" during his doctor visit on Monday, but declined to go into any specifics. It's possible that the surgery is just being delayed, but the Yankees have yet to provide an official update. Regardless, Rivera is expected to miss the rest of the season and intends to make a comeback in 2013.

Tue May 8 201208:40Rivera runs into 'complications' at doctor
Mariano Rivera's agent, Fernando Cuza, told George A. King III of the New York Post that his client "ran into complications" during his doctor visit on Monday.
"We ran into complications," said Cuza. "I am referring to Dr. Ahmad and [Yankees general manager] Brian Cashman for further information." Rivera, who was diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee last week, was expected to meet with Yankees physician Dr. Chris Ahmad, knee specialist Dr. Russell Warren, the Giants' physician, and Mets' team doctor David Altchek. The all-time saves leader has already declared that the injury will not end his career.

Fri May 4 201219:23Yankees officially place Rivera on the D.L.
Yankees placed RHP Mariano Rivera on the 15-day disabled list with a torn right meniscus and ACL.
The "15-day" designation is a pure formality, as Rivera has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season. He will likely be transferred to the 60-day disabled list the next time the Yankees need to clear a spot on their 40-man roster. Six-months shy of his 43rd birthday, Rivera has vowed to return in 2013. David Robertson is the heavy favorite to close in Rivera's absence, but manager Joe Girardi has refused to rule out giving save opportunities to Rafael Soriano.

Fri May 4 201212:51Yanks not sure if Mo has torn meniscus
Bob Klapisch of the Bergen Record reports that the Yankees are still trying to determine whether Mariano Rivera has a torn meniscus.
The Yankees weren't told by Kansas City doctors about a torn meniscus, but Rivera offered it to reporters after Thursday's game. Either way, the torn ACL is the major injury, and one that is expected to be season-ending. David Robertson is expected to replace Mo in the ninth inning, though Rafael Soriano could also be considered.

Thu May 3 201223:44Rivera has torn ACL, likely done for season
Yankees manager Joe Girardi announced following Thursday's game that Mariano Rivera was diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee.
Absolutely crushing news. Rivera is scheduled to head back to New York to meet with Yankees' doctors, but his season is almost certainly over and there's at least a chance that he has thrown his final pitch. It's terrible news for the Yankees, as there will never be another closer like Rivera, but David Robertson and Rafael Soriano are capable replacements. We would give the edge to Robertson, but both should be stashed away in most fantasy leagues.

Thu May 3 201220:01Mariano Rivera being sent for MRI on knee
Mariano Rivera was diagnosed with a "twisted right knee" after being examined by a Royals' associate physician and Yankees trainers.
That's an extremely preliminary diagnosis, so we should know something more definitive after he undergoes an MRI during the game. Rivera was carted off the field after injuring the right knee while shagging fly balls during batting practice Thursday. Stay tuned.

Mon Apr 30 201221:42Mariano Rivera nails down fifth
Mariano Rivera notched his fifth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning in Monday's win over the Orioles.
Mo blew his first save chance of the season, but he's converted five straight while allowing just two baserunners and no runs since then. The future Hall of Famer will be an elite fantasy closer again this season.

Thu Apr 19 201222:32Rivera notches third save
Mariano Rivera converted his third consecutive save opportunity as the Yankees defeated the Twins on Thursday.
After a shaky outing on Opening Day, Rivera has now been lights out in every appearance since. He needed just seven pitches to set down the side in order in this one and remains one of the truly elite closers in the game.

Tue Apr 10 201223:48Rivera shuts down Orioles
Mariano Rivera retired the Orioles in order, including a pair of strikeouts, to record his first save of the season on Tuesday.
As expected, Rivera rebounded nicely from his blown save on Opening Day and looked the part of the dominant reliever that we are used to seeing. He's still one of the best closers in the game and should remain that way for as long as he wants to continue pitching.

Fri Apr 6 201219:01Mariano Rivera takes blown save, loss
Mariano Rivera took a blown save and a loss in his season debut, giving up two runs in the ninth to the Rays.
It's been a pretty awful spring and now Opening Days for the closers around the league, and even Rivera wasn't immune. He allowed a single and a game-tying triple to the first two hitters he faced today. That led to a pair of intentional walks to set up the force. He bounced back to strike out Sean Rodriguez, but Carlos Pena hit a deep fly to left to end it (it went as a single, though it would have been caught under normal circumstances). Rivera now has half as many losses this year as he did in all of 2011.

Sun Mar 11 201216:58Mariano Rivera perfect in spring debut
Mariano Rivera retired all three Phillies he faced Sunday in his spring debut.
Rivera has been setting his own spring schedule for years, and the lack of innings in March never poses any problems. He's still about as good of a bet as any closer for fantasy purposes.

Thu Mar 8 201209:40Rivera to make spring debut on Sunday
Mariano Rivera will make his Grapefruit League debut on Sunday.
Rivera threw live batting practice Thursday in his final tuneup before game action. The 42-year-old right-hander has hinted at the possibility of retirement following the season, but he should remain a top tier fantasy closer in 2012.

Wed Mar 7 201210:30Rivera may announce future plans by AS break
Mariano Rivera told Kevin Kernan of the New York Post that he may announce a decision by the All-Star break on whether he'll retire after the season.
"I think maybe it will be before the All-Star break," were Rivera's exact words. The 42-year-old told reporters last month that he has already made a decision about his future, but he has declined to reveal what the decision might be. The all-time saves leader should remain a valuable fantasy property until he throws his final cutter.

Mon Mar 5 201213:47Mo Rivera throws to hitters
Mariano Rivera threw to live hitters Monday for the first time since arriving at Yankees camp.
"Just trying to work, make sure my arm speed is there, my release, all that stuff,'" Rivera told reporters. "And it was good, it was good. The ball was moving and going where I wanted it to." Mo, sitting on 603 career saves, has indicated recently that this might be his final season.

Mon Feb 20 201213:48Rivera hints he's likely to retire after 2012
Mariano Rivera indicated Monday in Yankees camp that he is likely to retire after the 2012 season.
Rivera told reporters that he has made a decision about his future, but playfully declined to reveal what that decision is. Marc Carig of the Newark Star-Ledger said Mo "sounded like a man at the start of a farewell tour." The 42-year-old right-hander enters 2012 with a shiny 2.21 career ERA and 603 career saves. He should remain a top fantasy option at closer until the very end.

Sat Jan 7 201214:19Rivera making progress from throat surgery
Mariano Rivera expects to be available for spring training after test results confirmed that the polyps on his vocal cords are ''non-cancerous.''
''Everything's good, I'm just trying to get ready for spring training,'' said Rivera, in his first public comments since undergoing surgery in December. ''It makes you think, definitely. It puts it in perspective. But again, thank God everything is fine." Rivera added that he has been speaking regularly for a few weeks and that he expects to be ready in time for spring training, but declined to comment on whether he intends to keep pitching when his contract expires after this year.

Fri Dec 2 201120:52Rivera undergoes vocal cord surgery
Mariano Rivera underwent surgery Friday morning to remove polyps from his vocal cords.
Rivera's agent, Fern Cuza, said the surgery "went well, as planned." While Rivera was told by a doctor that the polyps didn't "look like anything serious," he is currently awaiting biopsy results. The 42-year-old will be unable to speak for the next week as he rehabs from the surgery, but he is expected to be ready in time for spring training.

Thu Dec 1 201112:04Mariano Rivera to have surgery on vocal cords
Mariano Rivera will undergo surgery Friday to remove polyps from his vocal cords.
He is expected to need a couple of weeks of recovery time, including one without speaking, but it shouldn't have any impact on his availability for spring training. The 42-year-old posted a 1.91 ERA, 44 saves and a 60/9 K/BB ratio over 61 1/3 innings this season and should be one of the top closers off the board again in 2012.
