Thu Jan 24 2013 | 09:05 | Nyjer Morgan signs $1.6 million deal in Japan |
Nyjer Morgan has signed a one-year, $1.6 million contract with Japan's Yokohama DeNA BayStars. |
Morgan failed to attract much interest from major league teams this offseason after batting just .239/.302/.308 in 122 games last summer for Milwaukee. He probably would have had to accept a minor league contract (and invitation to spring training) to remain in the states. |

Nyjer Morgan hit a rare homer in Monday's win over the Astros. |
Morgan's dinger pulled the Brewers to within one run in the seventh, and he, of course, celebrated as if he had just won the World Series. The fiery outfielder has somehow managed to drive in just seven runs this season despite receiving 222 at-bats. |

Nyjer Morgan is batting just .230/.291/.288 through 154 plate appearances this season for Milwaukee. |
And yet he was celebrated with a "Bobblehead Day" on Sunday at Miller Park. Morgan has been losing playing time to Norichika Aoki and Carlos Gomez, and carries very little fantasy value despite his good speed. |

Morgan has not showed off his assets this spring. His biggest weapon -- speed -- has translated into two steals in five attempts. With an ugly 12/3 K/BB ratio and a .238 batting average, he is not entering the regular season on a high note. |

Mon Jan 16 2012 | 14:29 | Brewers avoid arbitration with Nyjer Morgan |
The Brewers signed outfielder Nyjer Morgan to a one-year, $2.35 million deal, avoiding arbitration. |
A nice raise for Morgan, who enjoyed the best offensive year of his career in 2011, registering a .304/.357/.421 batting line in 119 games while earning close to the major league minimum. He's likely to serve as the Brewers' primary center fielder in 2012, unless Carlos Gomez suddenly makes a vast improvement. |

Sun Oct 16 2011 | 16:39 | Morgan starting in CF, batting 2nd, in Game 6 |
Nyjer Morgan is starting in center field and batting second in Game 6 of the NLCS Sunday. |
Milwaukee only made minor changes to their lineup, none of which were unexpected. Morgan replaces Carlos Gomez in center against right-hander Edwin Jackson, bumping third baseman Jerry Hairston to sixth in the lineup. Shawn Marcum, pitching in "the biggest game of (his) career," will take the hill for the Brewers. St. Louis will trot out the same lineup that they used in Friday's Game 5: Rafael Furcal (SS), Jon Jay (CF), Albert Pujols (1B), Lance Berkman (RF), Matt Holliday (LF), David Freese (3B), Yadier Molina (C) and Nick Punto (2B). St. Louis, leading 3-2, would stamp a ticket to the World Series against Texas with a victory. First pitch is scheduled for around 8:00 p.m. ET on TBS. |

Tue Oct 11 2011 | 19:47 | Morgan could start Game 3 on the bench |
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke hinted Tuesday that Nyjer Morgan won't be starting in Game 3 of the NLCS against St. Louis on Wednesday. |
Morgan is hitting .150/.261/.200 with nine strikeouts in 20 post-season at-bats. Carlos Gomez has never faced Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter, and usually only plays against left-handed pitching, but he offers a defensive upgrade in what should be a low-scoring game with Yovani Gallardo also on the mound. Morgan is 4-for-23 (.174) in his career against Carpenter. "It's something that we have talked about," said Roenicke. "We'll talk about it again. I think it's important to score as many runs as we can against a very good pitcher. Sometimes you try something a bit new, but if a guy isn't swinging the bat well you may make a switch." |

Nyjer Morgan went 2-for-5 with one run and the game winning RBI as the Brewers advanced to their first-ever NLCS in a 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks. |
There was speculation as to whether Ron Roenicke would replace Morgan in the lineup with Carlos Gomez prior to the game, but his decision to stick would Morgan paid off as Gomez singled and stole second in the tenth inning before Morgan's hit advanced the Brewers to the NLCS. Morgan also scored the team's first run of the game off a sacrifice fly by Jerry Hairston in the fourth. |

Fri Oct 7 2011 | 08:50 | Nyjer Morgan will still play against RHP |
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke indicated that he'll stick with Nyjer Morgan in center field against right-handed pitching despite Morgan's struggles and Carlos Gomez's hot hitting. |
Morgan has just one hit in 11 at-bats (.091) against the D'Backs, while Gomez went 2-for-3 with a homer and a stolen base in his lone start. Gomez also batted .429 (6-for-14) with two homers, five RBI and a stolen base over his final four starts of the regular season. "That's as good as I've ever seen (Gomez)," Roenicke said of his Game 4 showing. "So, it makes it a little difficult. Not difficult, but it gives you that in the back of your mind that it would sure be nice to get him in the lineup. But I don't know how you do that." |
