Wed Jun 27 201218:15Andy Pettitte (ankle) probably out two months
A source told ESPN's Buster Olney that Andy Pettitte (ankle) will likely be out two months.
The Yankees said originally said six weeks, but that was probably a bit too optimistic. Pettitte suffered a fractured left ankle on Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a Casey Kotchman comebacker. Freddy Garcia is taking the veteran left-hander's vacant rotation spot.

Wed Jun 27 201214:34Pettitte hit in leg with liner, leaves game
Andy Pettitte left Wednesday's start against the Indians in the fifth inning after being hit in the lower left leg with a comebacker off the bat of Casey Kotchman.
On the day CC Sabathia was placed on the disabled list, the Yankees' rotation was dealt another blow on the injury front. Pettitte attempted to stay in at first, but was pulled from the game after throwing a warm-up pitch. He allowed three hits and one walk while striking out seven over four-plus innings before being replaced by Cody Eppley.

Fri Jun 22 201223:22Pettitte goes six innings in loss to Mets
Andy Pettitte gave up five runs over six innings in Friday's loss to the Mets.
Pettitte was touched up for all five runs in the first inning, the big blow of which was a three-run homer by Ike Davis. However, he settled down from there and kept the Yankees within striking distance. All told, the 40-year-old southpaw gave up seven hits while striking out seven and walking a pair. He has logged at least six innings in all eight of his starts and now owns a 3.29 ERA and 52/14 K/BB ratio over 54 2/3 innings. He'll get the Indians next week.

Sat Jun 16 201217:27Pettitte excellent in no-decision vs. Nats
Andy Pettitte yielded two runs over seven innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Nationals.
Pettitte scattered five hits and walked three while striking out six. The 40-year-old southpaw was denied the win after Cory Wade coughed up the lead in the eighth inning, but his comeback continues to exceed even the most optimistic expectations. He owns a 2.77 ERA through seven starts and has an outstanding 46/12 K/BB ratio in 48 2/3 innings.

Sun Jun 10 201216:31Andy Pettitte fans eight in quality start
Andy Pettitte allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in six innings of work Sunday, taking a no-decision in the Yankees' 5-4 win over the Mets.
Pettitte struck out eight and walked two in his fourth quality start in five outings. He's also notched at least eight strikeouts four of the past five times he's taken the hill. The Yankees' soon-to-be 40-year-old comeback kid will bring a 2.81 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 40/9 K/BB ratio into his start in Washington next weekend.

Wed May 30 201200:48Pettitte finally has a poor outing
Andy Pettitte had his worst start since returning to the big leagues on Tuesday, allowing five runs on nine hits over seven innings of New York's loss to the Angels.
He struck out three and didn't walk a batter. Pettitte has gone at least 6 1/3 innings in all four of his starts and owns a 3.49 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 22/5 K/BB ratio through 28 1/3 innings. The 39-year-old southpaw should be started in almost every mixed fantasy leagues.

Fri May 18 201221:53Andy Pettitte notches first win since 2010
Andy Pettitte tossed eight shutout innings Friday for his first win since 2010.
Pettitte struck out nine and walked one as the Yankees topped the Reds 4-0. All of the Reds' four hits were singles, and Pettitte was surprisingly effective, throwing 76 of his 115 pitches for strikes. While he's not quite a must-start option, the 39-year-old southpaw should be relevant in most mixed fantasy leagues. His next start comes Wednesday against the Royals.

Sun May 13 201216:23Pettitte makes so-so return to the majors
Andy Pettitte had a mixed return to the big leagues on Sunday, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings of New York's loss to the Mariners.
Pettitte breezed through his first three innings of work, allowing no hits. He walked Ichiro Suzuki with two outs in the fourth, however, before serving up a two-run bomb to Justin Smoak. He required 94 pitches to notch his 19 outs. Pettitte's velocity appeared fine this afternoon, and after a few starts to regain his big-league bearings, he could easily turn into a mixed-league must-own.

Sun May 13 201211:56Andy Pettitte called up for Sunday start
Yankees purchased the contract of LHP Andy Pettitte from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre.
He'll make his first major league start Sunday since 2010. Pettitte's results during his minor league outings were hit or miss, but he's feeling healthy and is expected to be allowed to approach 100 pitches against the Mariners. We'd take a wait-and-see approach for now, but it's certainly possible that he'll have mixed league relevance again.

Tue May 8 201215:51Pettitte will be called up to start Sunday
Andy Pettitte will be called up to start for the Yankees on Sunday against the Mariners.
Pettitte has struggled in his last two minor league tuneups, so there was some question about whether he needed more time, but the Yankees apparently think he's ready to join the starting rotation. We wouldn't get carried away in shallow mixed formats, but the 39-year-old southpaw should be owned in deeper formats and AL-only leagues, especially with the tasty first matchup.

Mon May 7 201217:57Yanks haven't made decision on Pettitte
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Monday that no decision had been made on where Andy Pettitte will make his next start.
Pettitte had his second straight poor outing on Sunday, giving up five runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks over five innings while pitching with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Despite the underwhelming results, the veteran southpaw is confident that he's ready to join the Yankees' rotation.

Sun May 6 201219:10SP Pettitte: "I'm ready" to return to Yankees
Andy Pettitte deemed himself ready Sunday to return to the Yankees' rotation.
"I'm going to let them let everybody know what we've got going on," Pettitte said. "I feel like I'm ready, and I think they're ready for me to come up." Pettitte struggled Sunday, giving up five runs -- three earned -- on eight hits and two walks over five innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He did post a 3.71 ERA and 14/3 K/BB ratio over 17 innings in his three minor league outings. One cause for concern is that Pettitte's outings have looked progressively worse. Manager Joe Girardi said he'll speak with GM Brian Cashman about a plan for Pettitte. We think the veteran left-hander will be added to the roster later this week.

Sun May 6 201215:45Andy Pettitte struggles in rehab start
Andy Pettitte didn't have great results Sunday in what could be his final minor league start, giving up five runs -- three earned -- on eight hits and two walks over five innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
He did strike out six and finished the game with a 1-2-3 fifth inning. Pettitte holds a 3.71 ERA and 14/3 K/BB ratio over 17 innings in his three minor league outings, but he's gotten progressively worse and also struggled last week in an extended spring game. It's possible that the Yanks will give him one more outing before adding him to their rotation, but we're betting this was probably his last one.

Fri May 4 201208:50Pettitte could make two more minors starts
Andy Pettitte will make his next minor league start Sunday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but general manager Brian Cashman indicated it might not be his final one.
"The very least, one more. I saw him at Trenton and he needed at least two, if not three," GM Brian Cashman said. "His next start was an extended spring [on Monday] and he got his pitch count up. That will be two starts from when I saw him. He's just building endurance, but he looked good." We have a feeling that Pettitte will be added to the Yanks rotation if Sunday's outing goes well, but it's obviously not a foregone conclusion. David Phelps, who presumably would lose his spot when Pettitte is ready, pitched decently Thursday in his first major league start.

Mon Apr 30 201222:28Pettitte to make one more tune-up start
Andy Pettitte will make one more minor league tune-up before joining the Yankees.
That was the expectation all along, but Pettitte said following an extended spring training appearance Monday that he was ready to make his next start on the major league level. The Yankees don't think he's quite ready yet, so don't expect him to join the rotation until May 10 at the earliest.

Mon Apr 30 201219:50Pettitte likely to make another minors start
Andy Pettitte said Monday that the Yankees are "leaning toward" giving him another minor league start.
Pettitte thinks he's ready despite getting knocked around on Monday in an extended spring training start, but the plan all along had been to give him one more tuneup before activating him. The veteran left-hander has overall looked good in his minor league outings and should give the Yanks rotation a boost when he returns in mid-May.

Mon Apr 30 201217:55Pettitte declares himself ready to join Yanks
After giving up six runs (five earned) over 5 2/3 innings Monday during a start in extended spring training, Andy Pettitte said he is ready to return to the Yankees.
"I feel I'm strong enough and ready to make my next start with [the Yankees]," said Pettitte. "I feel good and it was another solid day. I felt the quality of pitches were as good as I've had in any of my starts up to now, and I was able to hold my velocity throughout [the outing]. I feel like I'm ready to help the team." It's worth noting that Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said prior to Monday's outing that Pettitte would need at least two more tune-ups before being a realistic option to return to the big leagues. And Pettitte's performance Monday, while not as bad as the box score indicates, will do little to change that. Barring something unusual, he appears on track to join the Yanks in mid-May.

Mon Apr 30 201216:25Pettitte hit hard in ext. spring training
Andy Pettitte gave up six runs and threw 95 pitches during a start in extended spring training on Monday.
It sounds bad, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi said a lot of the damage was wind-aided. It's not clear where Pettitte will make his next tune-up start, but he remains on track to join the Yankees' rotation at some point in May.

Sat Apr 28 201217:58Pettitte will continue rehab in Tampa on Mon.
Andy Pettitte will make his next minor league rehab start for High-A Tampa on Monday, as opposed to pitching for Double-A Trenton in Portland, Maine.
The Yankees don't want Pettitte to pitch in the cold weather conditions in Portland, so they've moved his next appearance to the warmer weather in Tampa. With Freddy Garcia and Phil Hughes struggling, the veteran left-hander could return to the Yankees' rotation sooner than originally planned.
