Carlos Silva (heart) tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings in his first minor league rehab start with Single-A Peoria on Friday.
Silva allowed just two hits -- both of them singles -- while striking out one and walking none. It's a significant step in his return from a minor cardiac procedure earlier this month, but he will likely need a couple more appearances before rejoining the major league team.

Carlos Silva (heart) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Friday with Single-A Peoria.
It looks like the Cubs are going to ease Silva back into action, and rightly so. He underwent a minor cardiac ablation to remedy an irregular heartbeat only a few weeks ago and probably won't return to the Cubs' starting rotation until the middle of September.

Carlos Silva (heart) could begin a rehab assignment as soon as Thursday.
Silva has thrown a few successful bullpen sessions and simulated games since undergoing a minor cardiac ablation to remedy an irregular heartbeat. The right-hander will make at least two rehab appearances, meaning he probably won't be back with the Cubs until early September.

Cubs manager Lou Piniella said Thursday that Carlos Silva (heart) will likely go out on a minor league rehab assignment next week.
Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild told Piniella that Silva will continue to throw on the side this week and will likely need two minor league rehab starts before returning from the disabled list. Silva is currently working his way back from a minor procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat.

Carlos Silva (heart) could be ready for a rehab assignment this week and might be back in the Cubs rotation the following week if all goes well.
Silva had a minor surgical procedure Monday to correct arrhythmia. Cubs manager Lou Pinella said he anticipates re-inserting Silva into the team's rotation, but the team might also give some younger players a look. ''Depending on who we call up in September, we'll probably have to give some young pitcher a start,'' Piniella said, ''so we'll have to play this thing by ear.''

Carlos Silva was released from the hospital Monday after undergoing a minor cardiac ablation to remedy an irregular heartbeat.
He underwent the procedure today. That he was already released from the hospital and will begin a throwing program next week bodes better for his future than any statement about the operation being a success. The rotund pitcher has altered his arsenal this year and showed the best strikeout rate of his career after moving to the National League. His owners hope he returns quickly.

Carlos Silva has undergone treatment and evaluation to determine the cause of his accelerated heartbeat.
Manager Lou Pinella said that an update on his condition could come in the next day or two. It's nearly impossible to predict how long this will keep Silva out, so we'll just wait for the next update.

Cubs placed RHP Carlos Silva on the 15-day disabled list with cardiac evaluation.
Silva is being placed on the disabled list as a precaution after leaving Sunday's start with an abnormal heart beat. He was released from the hospital Monday. It appears that Casey Coleman will take his place in the starting rotation, but don't dismiss Carlos Zambrano should he struggle.

Silva was pulled after less than inning Sunday due to an abnormal heart beat. He spent the night in a Denver hospital and is expected to see a cardiologist soon for further examination. The Cubs have not decided whether to place him on the disabled list or simply skip his next start.

He gave up two runs on two hits and a walk before exiting. The right-hander is being evaluated and we should know more about his condition later Sunday. James Russell replaced Silva on the mound.

Carlos Silva allowed just one run over five innings in Monday's 5-2 win over the Astros.
The big right-hander gave up five hits and one walk while striking out four. This solid outing was much needed after Silva was hammered for 11 runs in 2 1/3 innings over his previous two starts. He's now 10-4 on the season and holds a 3.76 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. Silva has a tough matchup this weekend in Colorado.

The struggling Carlos Silva may have his next start pushed back in order to work on the side.
Silva has allowed 11 runs over his last two starts and hasn't completed the second inning in either of them. With the scheduled off-day on Thursday, the Cubs have the option of using Ryan Dempster on regular rest Sunday.

Carlos Silva was pounded for six runs in 1 1/3 innings before being ejected for arguing a play at first base Sunday against the Dodgers.
At least Silva picked a good day to wear out the pen. It's the first time this season that he hasn't gone at least five innings. He's now lost three of his last four decisions after opening the season 8-0. Still, until tonight, he was pitching well throughout.

Carlos Silva will make his scheduled start Sunday despite a calf injury.
The right-hander might be limited to five innings, though, since manager Lou Pinella has plenty of bullpen arms at his disposal with a three-day break coming up. Silva won't make his first second half start until Monday the 19th, as Pinella wants to give Silva as much time as possible to get over his injury. Ryan Dempster, Ted Lilly, Randy Wells and Tom Gorzelanny will pitch the first four games after the break for the Cubbies.

Carlos Silva is questionable for Sunday's start against the Giants due to discomfort in his right calf, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.
Earlier this week, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that Silva was bothered by some soreness behind his knee. In any case, Mitch Atkins would make the start if Silva can't go.
