Wed Jul 7 201012:37Cubs could place Silva (knee) on DL
Bob Nightengale of USA Today speculates that the Cubs could place Carlos Silva (knee) on the disabled list Wednesday.
Silva improved to 9-2 by holding the Diamondbacks to two runs over six innings Tuesday, but left the game after just 74 pitches due to lingering soreness behind his knee. The Cubs could call up a starter to take his place this weekend.

Sat Jun 26 201021:52Silva solid again, but left with no-decision
Carlos Silva limited the White Sox to two earned runs in six innings Saturday, but was left with a no-decision in the eventual loss.
Silva was impressive yet again and showed no signs of the hamstring injury that caused him to miss his last start. He allowed only three hits, issued only one walk, and struck out four. Now 8-2 with a 3.01 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP, he deserves to be owned and started in all fantasy formats.
Tue Jun 22 201020:30Silva (hamstring) pushed back to Saturday
Carlos Silva's next start has been pushed back to Saturday due to a hamstring injury.
Silva suffered the injury during his last start on Saturday, as he was pulled after just 70 pitches. It doesn't appear the injury will require a stint on the disabled list, though that is obviously subject to change. Ted Lilly will be moved up to start on Thursday.

Sat Jun 12 201019:09Silva suffers first loss of season vs. ChiSox
Carlos Silva took his first loss of the season by allowing two runs over seven innings against the White Sox on Saturday afternoon.
It's been real, man. Still, Silva didn't pitch particularly bad on Saturday, allowing seven hits while striking out six, walking two and hitting two batters. He threw a career-high 123 pitches in the loss. It was easy to discount Silva's early season success as a fluke, but we're beginning to see that it's more of a change in philosophy than anything else. He'll try to get back in the win column against the Angels next week.
Mon Jun 7 201016:00Cubs' Silva goes to 8-0
Carlos Silva limited the Pirates to one run in seven innings Monday to improve to 8-0 on the season.
It wasn't much of a lineup that Silva faced today, but he turned in another gem, shutting out the Pirates until the seventh. Silva has earned wins in each of his last six outings, and the Cubs have prevailed in all 10 of his starts since losing 5-4 in his season debut. He's the first Cubs starter to open a season 8-0 since Ken Holtzman in 1967.
Fri Jun 4 201017:20Cubs' Silva to start Monday
Carlos Silva has had his start pushed back to Monday as a result of Wednesday's rainout.
Silva was originally scheduled to start tonight before the rainout, but Carlos Zambrano will get the nod now. Ryan Dempster and Randy Wells will stay on their current schedules and start Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Sat May 29 201018:52Silva Ks career-high 11 in win over Cards
Carlos Silva struck out a career-high 11 over seven shutout innings in a 5-0 win over the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon.
Who is this guy and what did he do with the real Carlos Silva? His previous career-high was eight and his previous season-high was six. He completely dominated the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing only two hits while walking none. He didn't allow a runner to reach past second base. With a performance like this, it's safe to say he's not going anywhere when Carlos Zambrano returns to the starting rotation next week. As for fantasy owners, you shouldn't need us to tell you that this is the ideal time to sell high.
Tue May 18 201023:25Silva improves to 5-0 with win over Rockies
Carlos Silva limited the Rockies to two runs over six innings on Tuesday to improve to 5-0 this season.
The renaissance continues. Silva, not expected to give Chicago much of anything after coming over in an off-season trade, is 5-0 with a 3.35 ERA through nine starts. He allowed six hits and only one walk on Tuesday while striking out four. If you own Silva, do everything you can to sell him high while you still have a chance. He could turn into a pumpkin as soon as this weekend on the road in an interleague matchup against the Rangers. We don't recommend him as an effective fantasy option in that contest.
Wed May 12 201017:11Cubs' Silva improves to 4-0
Carlos Silva limited the Marlins to two runs in 6 1/3 innings on Wednesday to improve to 4-0 this season.
Silva struggled in his previous two starts, but since the Cubs scored a bunch of runs in those games, Silva still hasn't taken a loss. Today, the win was as much thanks to bullpen aid as run support. Silva left with two on and one out in the seventh, but Sean Marshall immediately got a double-play ball to get out of the jam and protect a two-run lead. The Cubs went on to win 4-3.
Fri May 7 201022:57Silva improves to 3-0
Carlos Silva improved to 3-0 by limiting the Reds to four earned runs over five innings on Friday night.
Silva threw 93 pitches and apparently didn't have any problems with that troublesome wrist. He allowed 10 hits while striking out just three, but luckily he was staked to a 5-0 lead. We're selling high at all costs.
Tue May 4 201019:22Silva (wrist) on track to start on Friday
Carlos Silva (wrist) will not need to be pushed back in the starting rotation.
It turns out that Silva did not need a cortisone shot in his wrist, so he will start Friday as scheduled, as opposed to Saturday. Tom Gorzelanny will now make his next scheduled start on Saturday.

Sat May 1 201013:19Cubs shuffle rotation for first week of May
Carlos Silva's wrist is bothering him, so to give him an extra day of rest, the Cubs have shuffled their rotation.
Silva will get a full seven days between starts with the new rotation. Tom Gorzelanny pitches Sunday, and after an off-day Monday, he'll be followed by Ryan Dempster, Ted Lilly, Randy Wells, Gorzelanny, and finally Silva.

Mon Apr 26 201023:01Silva takes no-decision vs. Nationals
Carlos Silva allowed three runs over seven innings as part of a no-decision in a 4-3 win over the Nationals on Monday night.
It's the first time Silva has allowed more than one run in a start this season, but it's still a "quality start." Silva now has a 1.73 ERA and 0.77 WHIP over his first four starts. He's only walked three batters in his first 26 innings, so it's not completely smoke and mirrors, but keep in mind that he entered Monday's action holding batters to a .178 batting average on balls in play. His luck will run out soon enough, perhaps as soon as this weekend against the Diamondbacks.
Thu Apr 22 201000:06Silva dominates Mets in win
Carlos Silva shut down the Mets on Wednesday, giving up just one earned run on two hits and two walks in six innings of work.
Silva improved to 2-0 and his ERA stands at a sparkling 0.95. With Carlos Zambrano being shipped to the bullpen, Silva's spot in the rotation is safe for now. We're skeptical that the surprising sinkerballer will be able to maintain this torrid pace as he looks to next week's start against the Nationals.
Fri Apr 16 201017:06Silva pitches Cubs past Astros
Carlos Silva held the Astros to two unearned runs over seven innings and delivered an RBI double in the Cubs' 7-2 win Friday.
Silva's double gave the Cubs their only run through six. They chased Felipe Paulino in the seventh and blew the game open after novice first baseman Pedro Feliz chose to play a bunt into an RBI single rather than let it roll foul. Derrek Lee followed with a three-run homer a couple of batters later. Silva was sharp throughout his 91-pitch outing, though it was against baseball's worst offense. He'll get the Mets next time out, after which it will be decided whether he or Tom Gorzelanny will be bumped in favor of Ted Lilly.
Sat Apr 10 201013:40Silva's right shoulder ailing
Carlos Silva's right shoulder was sore after Friday's start and may cause the righty to miss his next start.
This is a shame especially given how well he pitched against the Reds on Friday. If he does need to go on the disabled list before ted Lilly can come back, unknown at this point, Sean Marshall seems likely to move into the rotation's fifth spot.

Fri Apr 9 201021:55Silva solid over six innigns in no-decision
Carlos Silva limited the Reds to one earned run over six innings Friday in his first start of the regular season.
Silva was left with a no-decision after the Cubs' bullpen coughed up a big lead, but was excellent for the six frames that he was on the mound. He didn't walk a batter, struck out three and allowed only three total hits. The righty deserves credit for pitching well this spring and earning a spot in the Cubs' rotation, but he's due for a blow-up anytime now.
