Cardinals signed INF Aaron Miles to a minor league contract. |
He'll report to extended spring training. Miles was released by the Reds earlier this month. He remains a favorite of Cardinals manager Tony La Russa and put together a .289/.335/.363 batting line during a three-season stay in St. Louis. He isn't likely to contribute much, but he gives the Cardinals an option if Felipe Lopez suffers a setback or Brendan Ryan continues to struggle. |
Wed Apr 14 2010 | 14:20 | Reds release Aaron Miles |
Reds released 2B Aaron Miles. |
No surprise, Miles was able to pass through waivers. The 33-year-old infielder batted just .185/.224/.242 in 157 at-bats with the Cubs last season. The Reds acquired him from the Athletics as part of the Willy Taveras trade in February, however he was never expected to play a prominent role with the team. He can now sign with any organization at the major league minimum with the Reds paying the remaining $2.3 million on his contract. |

Reds designated 2B Aaron Miles for assignment. |
About time. Miles, 33, was one of the worst players in the majors last year, batting just 185/.224/.242 in 157 at-bats for the Cubs. Even the veteran-friendly Reds had no reason to keep him on-board. The club also designated outfielder Wladimir Balentien for assignment. |
