Chris Dickerson, who underwent surgery on his right hand in early May, shagged flyballs on Thursday and has begun hitting soft toss in the cage. |
"It's going pretty well," Dickerson said. "I don't feel like the power is even close. But it's getting close to where it's pain free. It's just a matter of time. Hopefully, by Sunday, I will be taking light batting practice. I might even try acupuncture to see if anything can loosen up the tightness in my forearm." There's no current timetable for his return. |

It's unclear when he will progress to the point of a minor league rehab assignment, but Dickerson hopes it is sometime in the next three weeks. "No clue -- it's the magic question," said Dickerson. "I should be swinging by the end of the week, if not, next week. Hopefully if that goes well, they'll send me off [to a rehab assignment] the following week." |

The exact timetable won't be known until he has the surgery, but wrist injuries tend take a while to heal and will linger even past when players return to the field. If you own Dickerson, it's probably time to cut bait and let him go. |

The injury bug bites Dickerson again. In this case, it's probably a good thing for the Reds, since Dickerson had been a major liability while getting his chances to play over Drew Stubbs. He was hitting .227 with no RBI and a ridiculous 19/1 K/BB ratio in 44 at-bats. |

Dickerson is also leading off. Drew Stubbs is expected to see the majority of playing time in center this season, but with right-hander Chris Carpenter on the mound for the Cardinals, Reds manager Dusty Baker opted to use the left-handed Dickerson. Stubbs owners should get used to such scenarios. |
