Isaac Redman rushed for 92 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown filling in for Rashard Mendenhall in Week 17 against the Browns.
The severity of Mendenhall's injury is not yet known. Redman made a case for an expanded role in the playoffs with his effort this week, but he's nothing more than a situational, short-yard running back.

Sun Oct 16 201117:07Isaac Redman receives 5 touches in loss
Isaac Redman rushed for 22 yards on four carries and caught a two-yard pass as the Steelers downed the Jaguars in Week 6.
Even with the Steelers leading all game and taking the air out of the ball in the second half, Redman was a non-factor in terms of touches. Consider "Red Zone Ike" nothing more than a handcuff to Rashard Mendenhall going forward.

Wed Oct 12 201110:09Tomlin complimentary of Redman
Coach Mike Tomlin said he was "pleased but not surprised" by Isaac Redman's performance in last week's win over the Titans.
Redman dealt with cramps, managed just 3.3 yards per carry and was generally outplayed by Jonathan Dwyer in his spot start. But he graded out well picking up the blitz and got what was blocked. Rashard Mendenhall's exact role for Week 6 is uncertain, so it's worth holding onto Redman a little longer. The Steelers remain high on him.

Sun Oct 9 201116:42Isaac Redman gets 18 touches in Week 5 win
Isaac Redman rushed 15 times for 49 yards and caught three passes for 12 more yards in the Steelers' Week 5 win.
He can at least get what's blocked. Redman suffered a painful leg cramp in the third quarter, and Jonathan Dwyer finished out the game at tailback. The injury is not believed to be serious, but the Steelers didn't need to risk it with a sizable lead. Rashard Mendenhall looked relatively healthy on the sidelines and Redman didn't do anything to pass him on the depth chart, so we may not know Pittsburgh's Week 6 feature back until later next week.

Sun Oct 9 201115:29Isaac Redman leaves with left leg injury
Isaac Redman left Sunday's game in the fourth quarter with a left leg cramp.
The good news is Redman didn't appear to have his leg fallen on at the end of an eight-yard run. He has 15 rushes for 49 yards and 12 receiving yards on the day. Jonathan Dwyer had an explosive 76-yard run and has outplayed Redman for most of the game.

Thu Oct 6 201112:29Report: Steelers preparing Redman as starter
The Steelers are preparing Isaac Redman as if he's going to start against the Titans Sunday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Although the Steelers are not ruling out Rashard Mendenhall (hamstring) yet, all signs point toward Redman carrying the load. And with Mewelde Moore (ankle) already ruled out, Redman could be looking at 20-25 touches including the goal-line work. Redman has averaged a hefty 4.8 yards per carry on 74 career rushes.

Tue Oct 4 201116:09Redman expected to start at RB for Steelers
The Beaver County Times expects Isaac Redman to start for the Steelers against the Titans in Week 5.
Beat writer Mike Bires believes both Rashard Mendenhall (hamstring) and Mewelde Moore (high ankle sprain) will sit out this week, turning Redman into a three-down back. In limited action, Redman has been a more decisive runner than Mendenhall this year, averaging 4.9 YPC and 9.0 yards per reception. Tennessee allows the 18th-most fantasy points to opposing backs.

Thu Sep 8 201115:02Redman's role will increase this season
Steelers backup RB Isaac Redman has been told that his snaps will increase this season.
Redman is expected to handle one series per half, some third downs, and short-yardage duties everywhere but the goal-line. The Steelers coaches are rewarding him for his continued improvement, but this isn't a major concern for Rashard Mendenhall owners.

Mon Sep 5 201112:49Redman continues to gain buzz
Isaac Redman "could handle the job if [Rashard Mendenhall] were injured," according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Redman is an annual camp darling that appears to have turned a corner. He's not a bad handcuff for Mendenhall, who has accumulated 566 carries over the last two seasons. "Redman is a brute, a big, tough runner who can block, catch, shed tackles and take punishment," raves the Post-Gazette.

Thu Aug 18 201112:39Redman continues to impress
ESPN's James Walker calls backup RB Isaac Redman "one of the best players" he saw at Steelers camp.
Redman has taken some major steps forward by all accounts. And considering Rashard Mendenhall is coming off a career-high 324 carries, it would make sense to sprinkle Redman in some. But the Steelers' philosophy has been to feature one back almost exclusively, so Redman remains a simple weak handcuff.

Sun Aug 14 201112:05Redman in for more touches?
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette believes the Steelers will "not hesitate to use" backup RB Isaac Redman this season.
Redman was a bright spot in the Steelers' sloppy preseason opener on Friday, rushing five times for 42 yards and a score. Bouchette says he's "won over all his coaches' confidences the past two seasons." That may be, but he still notched just 61 touches in 2010. He's unlikely to carve into Rashard Mendenhall's touches in any meaningful way.

Fri Aug 12 201109:12Redman to serve as Mendy's backup
Isaac Redman remains the primary backup to Rashard Mendenhall.
The Steelers are one of the few teams that believe in running their main back until the wheels fall off, so Redman won't have a real role outside of some short-yardage situations. Mendenhall hasn't missed a game since 2008 and figures to at least match the 347 touches he recorded last season. Redman is a low-end handcuff.

Tue Apr 5 201116:15Redman could be in line for a bigger role
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette suggests Isaac Redman could be in line for a bigger role after the coaching staff reviews 2010 game tape.
Redman isn't as explosive or well-rounded as Rashard Mendenhall, so he's slated for a pure backup role. If free agent Mewelde Moore isn't brought back, Redman will see more time on third downs. Mendenhall should remain the goal-line horse.

Fri Dec 10 201013:20Redman seeing more time on third downs
Steelers backup RB Isaac Redman is eating into Mewelde Moore's playing time on third downs.
Redman played 14 snaps against the Ravens compared to just five for Moore whereas the figures were reversed for most of the season. Redman's improvement as a pass-blocker now makes him the clear-cut handcuff for Rashard Mendenhall in deeper leagues.

Thu Nov 11 201011:37Redman, Allen, Moore back at practice
All three Steelers' players that suffered concussions Monday night, RBs Isaac Redman and Mewelde Moore and S Will Allen, were back on the practice field Wednesday.
They've all passed their concussion tests and should be fine to play in Week 10. Redman has been a solid understudy to Rashard Mendenhall this season, averaging 4.1 YPC.

Tue Nov 9 201013:05Redman, Allen, Moore suffer concussions
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said RBs Isaac Redman and Mewelde Moore and S Will Allen suffered concussions in the Monday night win over the Bengals.
It's not clear at this point how severe the concussions are and if it's possible any of the players could sit out in Week 10. We'll update their statuses when more is known.

Thu Oct 21 201014:14Redman to see more clock-killing carries
Steelers RB Isaac Redman has been told that he'll see an increase in carries in the last five minutes of games to ease Rashard Mendenhall's workload.
Redman will be the clock-killer or at least the clock-bleeder late in games when the Steelers have a commanding lead. It's a smart way to reduce the stress on Mendenhall's body without losing him for crucial plays. Mendenhall remains a rock-solid RB1.

Tue Sep 7 201012:50Steelers name Redman short-yardage back
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has named Isaac Redman his team's short-yardage back.
Bad news for Rashard Mendenhall owners. Mendenhall will still see some touches near the goal line, but you can probably safely knock a few touchdowns off of his projection. Redman is worth a late-round flier or waiver wire pick-up if you've already had your draft.

Mon Sep 6 201009:33Redman makes team, could play some FB
As expected, Isaac Redman has made the Steelers as a backup running back and fullback.
Redman will be a versatile piece for offensive coordinator Bruce Arians. The Steelers didn't keep a true fullback on the roster, so Redman will do some lead blocking. He'll also be part of a "Pony" package that includes both Redman and Rashard Mendenhall in the backfield. Redman's biggest strength, of course, is his short-yardage running. We still don't know if the Steelers will use Redman as their goal-line specialist.
