Thu Jul 22 201018:55Angels get 3B Alberto Callaspo from Royals
Angels acquired infielder Alberto Callaspo from the Royals for RHP Sean O'Sullivan and LHP Will Smith.
O'Sullivan has enjoyed success in the majors at an early age and Smith has risen quickly through the minor leagues, but this is a move that makes sense for the Angels. Third basemen have hit just .214 in Anaheim this season and Callaspo will bring immediate stability to the position. He was batting .275/.308/.410 with eight homers and 43 RBI in 349 at-bats for the Royals.
Thu Jul 22 201018:19Report: Angels get INF Callaspo from Royals
Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports that the Angels have acquired infielder Alberto Callaspo from the Royals.
Kansas City will receive major league-ready right-hander Sean O'Sullivan, who has posted a 2.08 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP in 13 innings for the Angels this season, and minor league lefty Will Smith. Callaspo, 27, has posted a .275/.308/.410 batting line, eight home runs and 43 RBI in 349 at-bats this season as the Royals' primary third baseman.

Tue Jul 20 201016:53Report: Angels interested in Alberto Callaspo
A major league source tells Mark Saxon of ESPNLosAngeles.com that the Angels are interested in Royals' third baseman Alberto Callaspo.
According to Saxon, the Angels are believed to have offered right-hander Sean O'Sullivan and another "fringe prospect," but the Royals passed on the proposal. It's not known if talks are still ongoing. Callaspo began his career in the Angels organization and would be a clear upgrade for a club that has combined to bat a major-league worst .208 with a 555 OPS at the hot corner this season.

Tue Jul 20 201001:27Royals' Callaspo knocks in game-winner
Alberto Callaspo had a game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th as the Royals beat the Blue Jays 5-4 on Monday.
Callaspo has been a real disappointment since being installed as the Royals' third baseman, as his numbers are well down from last year. Still, the team seems to like him and he hasn't really come up in any trade rumors yet. A stealh deal is a possibility, as Mike Moustakas appears poised to overtake him in 2011.
Sat Jul 10 201010:00Callaspo struggling to hit right-handed
Alberto Callaspo was given Friday night off because the bone bruise on his left hand hurts more when hitting right-handed, which he would have done against Chicago starter Mark Buehrle.
Callaspo has started the last two games against right-handers, going 4-for-8 with a home run and five RBI. Expect him to start today and tomorrow against righties Gavin Floyd and Dan Hudson, and he should be cleared to start against lefties again after the break.

Thu Jul 8 201001:36Royals' Callaspo homers in victory
Alberto Callaspo hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to help the Royals beat the Mariners 7-3 on Wednesday.
Callaspo was a late scratch Tuesday and had missed three of the previous four games due to left wrist soreness. One would think that'd take a toll on his hitting, but in the two games he has been able to play, he's gone 4-for-8 and driven in five runs.
Tue Jul 6 201019:01Callaspo (wrist) out of Tuesday's lineup
Alberto Callaspo (wrist) is out of the starting lineup on Tuesday.
Callaspo returned to the lineup Monday after missing consecutive games, but is still being bothered by a sore left wrist.

Sun Jul 4 201021:25Royals' Callaspo sits for second straight
Royals infielder Alberto Callaspo sat for a second straight game on Sunday with a sore left hand.
Originally thought to be a strained ligament in his wrist, the Royals now think it is some type of bruise in his hand. While they don't seem to be too worried, the words 'bone bruise' were used, and those are never words you want to hear in combination. Manager Ned Yost said they would see how he felt on Monday and go from there.

Tue Jun 15 201023:50Callaspo has three hits in win over Astros
Alberto Callaspo was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in a blowout win over the Astros on Tuesday night.
It looks like a day off did him some good. Mired in a deep funk, Tuesday was his first multi-hit game since May 31. It's nice to see, but Callaspo is still batting just .191 with four RBI and two extra-base hits in 47 at-bats this month.
Thu May 13 201017:07Royals' Callaspo hits three-run homer
Alberto Callaspo hit a three-run homer in the Royals' win over the Indians on Thursday.
At least Callaspo is an everyday player now, but manager Trey Hillman still isn't using him to the best of his ability by batting him behind the slumping Jose Guillen in the order. Callaspo is either the Royals' second- or third-best hitter, and he should be batting third or fourth for the club.
Sun Apr 18 201018:33Callaspo drives in six runs as Royals roll
Alberto Callaspo homered twice to drive in six runs in the Royals' 10-5 win over the Twins on Sunday.
Callaspo hit three-run homers off both starter Carl Pavano and reliever Jesse Crain. He also added a single in the contest to raise his average to .292. With Alex Gordon back the Royals will be tempted to play Chris Getz at second base some, but Callaspo's bat awakening today should ensure he gets the majority of the playing time at least in the short-term.
Mon Apr 5 201017:01Callaspo could return to lineup on Wednesday
Royals manager Trey Hillman said that Alberto Callaspo (oblique) could be back in the lineup on Wednesday.
"Callaspo's good," Hillman said on Monday. "Which encourages me that for Game 2, he may be in there. But I still feel comfortable with the decision we made to hold off another 24 to 48 hours. I'll feel better about it." Because of the injury to Callaspo's side, Willie Bloomquist got the nod at third base on Opening Day.
