While the Rockies recalled Zach Lee for possible long-relief duty in the final two games of the series at Colorado, Lee, a starter his entire career, could replace Kazmir in the rotation, if need be.

LHP Scott Kazmir signed a three-year, $48 million free agent contract with the Dodgers on Wednesday.Kazmir reportedly received an opt-out clause he can use after the first season.The 31-year-old veteran went 7-11 with a 3.10 ERA in 31 starts and 183 innings with the Athletics and Astros last season. Because he was traded by Oakland to Houston at midseason, the Astros could not make Kazmir a qualifying offer, so the Dodgers will keep their first-round draft choice.

Kazmir allowed three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over 5.1 innings against the Royals on Friday in Game 2 of the ALDS. He did not factor in the decision in the Astros' 5-4 loss.

The lefty gave the Astros about as good a performance as they could have expected after he struggled to a 6.52 ERA in six September starts. It wasn't quite good enough, however, as the bullpen allowed a pair of runs, with Will Harris giving up the go-ahead RBI in the seventh. Kazmir would be an option to start Game 5 on normal rest Wednesday, if the series gets that far.

Kazmir will start Game 2 of the ALDS against the Royals on Friday, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The left-hander struggled mightily down the stretch for Houston, posting a 6.52 ERA and 18:11 K:BB in 29 September innings, but the Astros will start Kazmir in Game 2 over Mike Fiers. He will oppose Johnny Cueto, who also had a rough go of it late in the regular season. Dallas Keuchel will follow in Game 3, this time on normal rest.

Kazmir struggled yet again on Wednesday, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out three across 4.1 innings in a no-decision against the Mariners.

Regression is hitting the lefty hard right now, as his last three starts have been terrible. In that span, he has failed to pitch five innings and has allowed 15 runs on 22 hits across just 11.2 innings. The strikeouts have been lacking as well, whiffing no more than five batters in his last six starts. The ERA has been on a steady rise since his move to Houston and luckily for him, it's his last start. If Houston are to make the playoffs, it will be interesting to see if they rely on Kazmir.

Kazmir (7-11) was roughed up for six runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out one over 3.2 innings in a loss to Texas.

After tossing 14.2 scoreless innings in his first two starts in Houston, Kazmir has lost his way, going 1-6 with 4.97 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over his past 10 starts. He seems to be missing the spacious confines of Oakland's O.co Coliseum. After serving up just .057 HR/9 in 18 starts with the Athletics to start the season, Kazmir has more than doubled the pace to 1.43 HR/9 in 12 starts as an Astro. He pitched so well to start the season that his 2015 stats depict him as a no-brainer to keep in your rotation. Recent history tells another story.

Kazmir simply didn't have it tonight, as it took him 83 pitches to get through his 3.2 innings. As the season has gone on, the ERA has been steadily rising. It's a natural regression for a pitcher who had an absurd start to the season and fantasy owners cant complain about a 2.73 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. His 3.56 FIP and a career-high 80 percent strand rate would indicate he has even more regression coming, but luckily he only has a couple of starts left. Kazmir's next start will be on Thursday against the scorching-hot Rangers.
