Sat May 12 201222:45Schafer has two hits, RBI in Astros loss
Jordan Schafer had a nice night at the plate in a losing effort Saturday night against the Pirates, going 2-for-4 with an RBI double.
Schafer has done some nice things as the Astros' leadoff hitter and table-setter, now hitting .261 with a pair of homers, 20 runs scored and 11 steals on the season. His speed makes him a nice fantasy asset, and he should be owned and started in most leagues at this point.

Thu May 10 201200:28Jordan Schafer goes 4-for-5 in loss
Jordan Schafer went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and run scored in Wednesday's 12-inning loss to the Marlins.
A nice night for a player who entered the evening batting .235, but it could have been even better had Schafer not gotten caught stealing in the 10th. Schafer had been 0-for-May before tonight's outburst, and should continue to fall back to earth in the coming days and weeks. If not for his speed, he wouldn't be ownable in mixed leagues.

We haven't heard anything about an injury, so he's likely just getting the night off. The righty-hitting Justin Maxwell will make the start in center field and bat leadoff against southpaw Ted Lilly.

Wed Apr 18 201221:53Jordan Schafer steals sixth base
Jordan Schafer went 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.
Schafer sat out Tuesday's game with an illness, but clearly he's fine now. The young outfielder clearly has the green light on the basepaths and is now just one pilfer off the NL lead. He doesn't figure to hit for average, but Schafer has a bit of pop and could possibly be a 30-steal threat.

Tue Apr 10 201223:24Schafer steals three bases in loss
Jordan Schafer went three-for-five with three stolen bases and a pair of runs scored in the Astros loss to the Braves on Tuesday.
Schafer possess great speed, but has always had trouble getting on base consistently. If he can continue to hit like this, he could be a fantasy force in 2012. I would temper my expectations though, as his .311 career on-base percentage is less than appealing.

Fri Mar 23 201219:59Schafer (hand) likely a few days away
Jordan Schafer (hand) said Friday that he's still a few days away from being able to return to the starting lineup.
Schafer hasn't played since spraining his left hand while making a diving catch last Sunday. He took some swings off a tee Friday, but had to cut things short against live pitching due to lingering discomfort. "It's still a little sore for that," said Schafer. "I took some soft toss and that was OK, so we'll go from there. It shouldn't be more than a few days. I'm feeling better every day. Swinging off the tee, I was fine, but it was a little bit too much [pain] in live BP." Things could change, but there's no indication that he's in danger for missing the start of the season.
