Thu Dec 6 2012 | 16:35 | Bay not guaranteed full salary with Mariners |
Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times reports that the full $1 million of Jason Bay's base salary with the Mariners is not guaranteed. |
Bay will be guaranteed $500,000 if he doesn't make the club out of spring training. The 34-year-old outfielder posted a measly .647 OPS over three seasons with the Mets, but the Mariners are hopeful that the change of scenery will do him well. |

Wed Dec 5 2012 | 14:14 | Jason Bay agrees to contract with Mariners |
Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that the Mariners have signed outfielder Jason Bay, pending a physical. |
No word yet on the terms involved, but he's expected to get a major league deal. Bay recently parted ways with the Mets after batting just .234/.318/.369 with 26 home runs over three seasons, but the Mariners are hopeful there's something left in the tank. |

Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports that the Indians have offered Jason Bay a one-year contract. |

Wed Dec 5 2012 | 10:46 | Report: Indians may be in lead for Jason Bay |
Joel Sherman of the New York Post hears that the Indians may be in the lead to sign outfielder Jason Bay. |
Believe it or not, there's a mini-bidding war for Bay. The Mariners are still in the mix while the Cubs are said to be in the periphery. The Indians could be a nice fit, as new skipper Terry Francona managed Bay in Boston from 2008-2009. The 34-year-old outfielder batted just .165/.237/.299 in 70 games this past season, but teams are banking on a modest rebound with the change of scenery. He's expected to get a major-league deal. |

Tue Dec 4 2012 | 15:06 | Bay deal not done with Mariners |
Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that free agent outfielder Jason Bay is still talking to several teams. |
It was mentioned on ESPN 710's "Brock and Salk" show on Tuesday that Bay was "pretty close" to signing with the Mariners. They are among the possible landing spots, but a deal isn't done yet. Bay, 34, is looking for a fresh start this winter after batting just .234/.318/.369 with 26 home runs over three seasons with the Mets. |

Tue Dec 4 2012 | 13:54 | Jason Bay close to signing with Mariners |
According to ESPN 710's "Brock and Salk" show, free agent outfielder Jason Bay "is pretty close" to signing with the Mariners. |
It makes sense as a potential fit, as Seattle is close to Bay's home in British Columbia and his asking price figures to be pretty low. The 34-year-old outfielder batted just .165/.237/.299 in 70 games this past season for the Mets and .245/.329/.374 in 123 games in 2011. |

Mon Dec 3 2012 | 14:06 | Bay drawing 'solid' interest in free agency |
WEEI's Rob Bradford reports that there has been "solid interest" in free agent outfielder Jason Bay. |
Which means that he's likely to do better than a non-guaranteed minor league contract. Bay, 34, batted just .165/.237/.299 in 70 games this past season for the Mets and .245/.329/.374 in 123 games the year before. The Red Sox were said to be "in contact" with him in mid-November but are no longer interested in a reunion. |

Tue Nov 13 2012 | 18:08 | Red Sox considering Jason Bay |
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Red Sox are "among the teams in contact" with Jason Bay. |
Bay would prefer to sign with a West Coast team, but to this point only two East Coast teams -- the Red Sox and Indians -- are known to have shown interest. Olney adds that Bay is "looking for opportunity, familiarity," which is something Boston might be able to offer him. The veteran outfielder was cut loose by the Mets last week. |

Tue Nov 13 2012 | 15:31 | Jason Bay considering signing with Indians |
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Indians are on "a short list" of teams being considered by free agent outfielder Jason Bay. |
Bay is looking for an opportunity and a place where there is some familiarity, so there could be a fit with the Indians, as new skipper Terry Francona managed Bay in Boston from 2008-2009. Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reported last week that the British Columbia native would prefer to sign with a team on the West Coast, so it's not a sure thing that he'll sign with Cleveland. |

Tue Nov 13 2012 | 13:41 | Bay to receive $15M deferred by 2015 |
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that Jason Bay will receive the $15 million deferred as part of his settlement with the Mets by the end of 2015. |
Bay is still owed a total of $21 million by the Mets, but this would suggest that he'll be paid $6 million in 2013. The Mets were originally responsible for the entire $21 million sum by the end of 2013, but the $15 million in deferred monies will now be paid in five installments over an additional two years. Heyman writes that the present-day value of the contract is worth only about $850,000 less than the full $21 million, so if Bay ends up making $850,000 or more with his next club, he'll make out ahead in the deal. It's really a win-win for both sides, as the Mets get some much-needed financial relief for 2013. |

Sun Nov 11 2012 | 23:30 | Indians have speculative interest in Bay |
Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer believes that the Indians could be a fit for Jason Bay this offseason. |
Hoynes is just dot-connecting, but Bay does have a history with manager Terry Francona and the Indians have a need in left field. Coming off his disastrous 2012, it remains to be seen what type of market develops for Bay. Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reported Wednesday that his preference is to sign with a West Coast team. |

Wed Nov 7 2012 | 22:23 | Jason Bay prefers to play on West Coast |
Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports that Jason Bay would prefer to sign with a West Coast team. |
Silverman notes that Bay wouldn't rule out a return to the Red Sox, but he's from western Canada and would understandably prefer to be on the West Coast. Of course, given how he flamed out with the Mets, he might not have a ton of options. |

Wed Nov 7 2012 | 13:46 | Mets agree to part ways with Jason Bay |
Mets released OF Jason Bay. |
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Bay will receive the $21 million remaining on his contract, including $16 million in 2013, $3 million on a buyout for 2013 and $2 million as part of a deferred signing bonus. Some thought Bay would at least make it to spring training with the club before a release was considered, but the Mets decided to pull the plug early and move on to other offseason planning. The 34-year-old was a complete disaster over three seasons with the Mets, batting just .234/.318/.369 with 26 homers and a .687 OPS. Both sides will be better off by turning the page. |

Jason Bay is out of the Mets' starting lineup on Tuesday night because of a stiff back. |
The Mets are calling him "day-to-day." Bay is batting just .155/.231/.294 in 67 games played this season. |

Tue Sep 25 2012 | 08:42 | Report: 'Zero' chance Mets release Jason Bay |
Mike Puma of the New York Post was told by a team source that there's "zero" chance the Mets will release Jason Bay or ask him to compete for a job during spring training. |
Bay has a .233/.317/.369 batting line, 26 homers and a .686 OPS in 285 games with the Mets and is still owed another $19 million (including a $3 million buyout) in 2013, but the club isn't ready to release him like they did with Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez back in 2011. There's a small chance they could find a trade partner, though they would likely have to take back another undesirable contract in return. The Mets have plenty of uncertainty in their outfield at the moment, so the most likely scenario is that he is on the Opening Day roster next year, even if he's just a part-time player. |

Sat Sep 22 2012 | 15:40 | Bay's two run homer powers Mets to win |
Jason Bay blasted a two-run homer, providing plenty of support for R.A. Dickey as the Mets topped the Marlins 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in New York. |
The two-run shot off Mark Buehrle in the second inning was Bay's only hit in four trips to the plate on the day. He's had quite the train-wreck of a season, hitting an impossible .155/.231/.294 with eight homers and 20 RBI in just 187 at-bats. |

Sun Sep 2 2012 | 15:38 | Jason Bay's grand slam topples Marlins |
Jason Bay blasted a first inning grand slam, powered the Mets to a 5-1 victory over Mark Buehrle and the Marlins on Sunday. |
Bay finished the afternoon 2-for-4. He's struggled through another injury plagued season, hitting a disappointing .160/.242/.302 with seven homers and 18 RBI over 162 at-bats. The 33-year-old outfielder carries very little value in most fantasy formats these days. |

Tue Aug 7 2012 | 16:20 | Bay no longer Mets' starting LF |
Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters Tuesday that Jason Bay is no longer the Mets' everyday left fielder. |
Bay is batting just .154 with a .533 OPS in 40 games played this season. He should still get semi-regular playing time, but it will be in a platoon situation. The 33-year-old carries almost no fantasy value. |
