Thu Sep 30 201014:52Rolen out again Thursday
Scott Rolen is out of the starting lineup for the second straight day Thursday.
The Reds are already playoff-bound, so it's not a bad idea to rest their veteran third baseman, who has been bothered by various aches and pains throughout the season. Miguel Cairo will start at third base Thursday and bat second against Brett Myers.

Scott Rolen will either sit out Sunday's game against the Dodgers or one of the games in the upcoming series against the Giants.
"We probably need him all three games in San Francisco," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "So do I not play him today or do I not play him in the day game in San Francisco? That would give him two days off. Right now, San Francisco is playing better than L.A." Make sure to check the Reds' lineup today and bench the third baseman in your daily transaction league if you have an alternative.

Scott Rolen was 4-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in a 12-4 win over the Brewers on Tuesday night.

Sun Jul 25 201012:20Rolen hopes to return to lineup in Milwaukee
Scott Rolen (hamstring) hopes to return to the lineup sometime during the Reds' series with the Brewers that begins Monday.
Rolen says that he's better, but it seems like he or the Reds have said that every day for a while now and he hasn't played since July 16. Hopefully he'll return against Milwaukee, but the more days that go by, the less sense it makes to not place him on the DL. Miguel Cairo has been filling in admirably at third in Rolen's absence.

Fri Jul 23 201009:37Reds hope to avoid putting Rolen on DL
The Reds hope to avoid putting Scott Rolen (hamstring) on the disabled list.
"He's doing more everyday," said Reds manager Dusty Baker. "We're hoping he gets better to the point where we can win games and don't have to put him on the DL. Then that last week he's well and can't play. That's hard to take. It's similar to what we did with Joey when he hurt his neck. We waited on Joey a week. We need other guys to pick it up until (Rolen) gets back. That's what good teams do." The Reds are 3-3 since Rolen last played last Friday.

Mon Jul 19 201017:40Rolen (hamstring) could go on DL
Reds manager Dusty Baker hasn't dismissed the possibility that Scott Rolen (hamstring) could go on the disabled list.
"Hopefully, it's not too serious. We really don't know yet," said Baker. "Life is not pleasant without Scotty out there. You see what our record is when he's in the lineup. It's a Catch-22 situation. You're operating short. You try not to use him unless it's a dire emergency because if you have to DL him, you lose the back-date days. We'll probably make a decision in the next day or so or sooner. It depends on how he responds to treatment." Rolen received a cortisone shot in his right hamstring on Monday, so it could be a couple more days before he is ready to return.
