Scott Rolen, who missed the last two games with a sore back, returned to the starting lineup on Sunday.

Sun Jul 11 201011:06Rolen hopes to return to action Sunday
Scott Rolen (back) hopes to be back in the lineup Sunday.
He has missed the last two games with the back ailment. "I'd tried to get in there (Saturday)," he said. "But it's not quite there." Rolen, who says he will go to the All-Star game as planned despite the injury, couldn't point to a specific thing that caused the problem. "I felt something when I slid the first night here," he said. "But it was fine. Then when I woke up yesterday, I knew I was in trouble." Miguel Cairo has been filling in at third base.

Scott Rolen is out of Friday's lineup because of a sore back.
Uh oh. Miguel Cairo is filling in tonight. Rolen is probably day-to-day, but with his history of back problems, this isn't to be taken lightly.

Wed Jun 9 201022:08Rolen drives in two as Reds top Giants
Scott Rolen finished 3-for-3 with two RBI as the Reds topped the Giants 6-3 on Wednesday in Cincinnati.
The Reds fell to an early 2-1 deficit, but rallied for a run in the third, a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth before adding two runs in the seventh. Rolen hit cleanup and played a major role in the victory. The ageless wonder is batting .304 this year with 42 RBI.
Sun Jun 6 201018:01Rolen's 9th-inning bomb helps Reds to victory
Scott Rolen hit a two-run homer off Nationals closer Matt Capps in the ninth inning in Cincinnati's eventual 5-4 10-inning win.
Rolen, one of the biggest surprises in baseball, no longer needs to start games to affect them. He was supposed to get the day off Sunday, but entered as a pinch-hitter for Bronson Arroyo with a runner on in the ninth inning and the Reds down 4-2. His blast tied the game and sent it to extra-innings. Rolen is now hitting .288/.351/.587 with 14 homers.

Tue Jun 1 201023:47Rolen crushes a pair of HRs in win over Cards
Scott Rolen was 3-for-5 with two homers and four RBI on Tuesday as the Reds edged the Cardinals 9-8.
Rolen has now jacked 13 homers and topped the 11 long flies he posted in each of the past two seasons. It's doubtful that he can keep up this pace -- he is hitting a blistering .290/.354/.592, after all -- but is obviously a must-start in all formats.
Thu May 27 201022:09Rolen hits 11th homer, collects 30th RBI
Scott Rolen finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI on Thursday as the Reds topped the Pirates 8-2.
Rolen now has 11 home runs on the year, the exact total that he's posted in each of the last two seasons. Whether he can keep the pace depends largely on him avoiding injury, but he's certainly worth starting at the moment. The veteran third baseman is batting .272 with 30 total RBI.
Sun May 23 201016:30Rolen homers twice in loss to Indians
Scott Rolen homered twice to drive in all three Cincinnati runs in a 4-3 loss to the Indians on Sunday.
The Reds did have nine other men on base who failed to score, so this loss stings. Rolen now has 10 homers on the season to go along with 10 doubles and a .581 slugging percentage that would be the second best of his career if the season ended today. The leg injury that bothered Rolen earlier in the week certainly doesn't appear to be an issue now.
Fri May 21 201016:18Rolen rejoins starting lineup
Scott Rolen is back in the lineup for Friday's game against the Indians.
Rolen has been dealing with some sort of leg injury and was out of the lineup on both Tuesday and Thursday. He's batting cleanup tonight.

Fri May 21 201009:24Rolen day-to-day with soreness
Scott Rolen missed his second start in three games on Thursday.
"He's very sore," said Reds manager Dusty Baker. "He's been tight for a couple of weeks." Baker wouldn't specify the nature of the injury, but it is believed to be a hamstring issue. He should be considered day-to-day. Miguel Cairo started at third base on Thursday and went 2-for-4 with an RBI, but he also made a critical error that enabled the Braves to make an incredible comeback.

Mon May 10 201022:02Rolen has two hits in win over Pirates
Scott Rolen was 2-for-4 with an RBI double in a 2-1 win over the Pirates on Monday night.
It was only Rolen's second multi-hit game since April 25. His eighth-inning two bagger ended up being the difference in the game. The veteran third baseman is batting .260/.327/.500 with six homers and 14 RBI over his first 100 at-bats this season. Mixed leaguers can do better.

Sun Apr 25 201016:18Reds' Rolen homers, scores three times in win
Scott Rolen lead the Reds past the Padres on Sunday by homering and scoring three times in a 5-4 game.
Rolen hit a solo homer, walked, and singled in the outing. With five homers and 14 runs scored in 15 games Rolen has been quite productive thus far. He's never far from his back injury acting up and missing time, but he's still worth using in mixed leagues when playing.
Wed Apr 21 201023:02Rolen back in lineup, raking
Scott Rolen went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers.
Rolen's chronic back issues flared up last week, but he's clearly over that now. He has five hits in the two games since he's been back while batting behind Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips. Still, it's only a matter of time before he is sidelined yet again.
