Mon Jun 18 201214:23Reds activate Scott Rolen (shoulder) from DL
Reds activated 3B Scott Rolen from the disabled list.
There was some thought that Rolen's latest shoulder injury might be career-ending, but he wound up missing only five weeks. The veteran third baseman is batting seventh on Monday night against the Indians. He returns to a weak .174/.238/.304 slash line and carries very little fantasy value at this point in his career. Todd Frazier should continue to see regular action at the hot corner.

Sun Jun 17 201214:13Rolen remains on track for Monday return
Reds manager Dusty Baker said Sunday that the plan remains for Scott Rolen to rejoin the team Monday.
"Since he didn't get hurt, and we'll find out the conditions, he should return Monday," Baker said. It remains to be seen how the time at third base will be split with Todd Frazier when Rolen returns. Baker has shown a penchant for his veterans in the past.

Tue Jun 12 201220:12Scott Rolen won't go on rehab assignment
Scott Rolen (shoulder) will not require a rehab assignment prior to being activated.
"We've been discussing that -- probably not," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "He's been getting a lot of hitting. I think he's been on a rehab before and a couple of times he didn't go on a rehab. There are some guys that their strokes are such that they might not need it." Rolen has taken batting practice and fielded grounders for the past week with no issues and is expected back in the lineup before long.

Sun Jun 10 201221:58Rolen (shoulder) takes batting practice again
Scott Rolen (shoulder) took batting practice again on Sunday.
There's still no timetable for his return, nor has a rehab assignment date been set. The veteran third baseman has been sidelined since the early part of May with a strained left shoulder. "We have to see and have to discuss it with him," Baker said. "We want him to come back ready and not come back and have to get ready."

Fri May 25 201218:15Rolen (shoulder) not ready to swing bat
Scott Rolen (shoulder) isn't sure when he'll resume swinging a bat.
Rolen went on the disabled list on May 12 with a sore left shoulder and recently received a cortisone shot. He has felt some improvement over the past couple of days, but he is currently shut down from all baseball activities and has no plans to rush back. "Ideally, this will be the last time (I'm on the DL)," said Rolen. "If it takes a few extra days, we'll do that." Todd Frazier will continue to fill in at the hot corner and makes for a decent play in deeper mixed leagues.

Scott Rolen (shoulder) recently received a cortisone shot.
Rolen was placed on the disabled list earlier this month with a strained left shoulder and has yet to resume swinging a bat. Reds manager Dusty Baker said on Saturday that he's not sure when the 37-year-old third baseman will be ready to return. With his future very much in doubt, Todd Frazier makes for a smart pickup in deeper mixed formats.

Sat May 19 201218:15Report: Reds concerned with Rolen's status
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Reds are concerned that Scott Rolen (shoulder) might not be able to return to the field this season.
There is no timetable for Rolen's return and Heyman believes the situation is more dire than originally reported. "I really don't know," Reds manager Dusty Baker said Saturday when asked when Rolen would return. The 37-year-old third baseman was off to a rough start this year when he hit the shelf, batting just .174/.238/.304 with two homers and 11 RBI. Todd Frazier has replaced him in the lineup.

It's a day game after a night game, and Rolen traditionally gets those off. The 37-year-old third baseman is batting just .178/.241/.315 in 23 games this season. Willie Harris drew the nod at third base Thursday.

Thu Apr 26 201215:35Rolen homers in loss to Giants
Scott Rolen homered in Thursday's loss to the Giants.
Rolen was not in the starting lineup but eventually entered the game in place of Todd Frazier and hit his second home run in as many at-bats. We wouldn't count on the hot streak lasting, but it sure is nice to see the 37-year-old third baseman cranking again. His blast Thursday nearly reached the second deck at Great American Ballpark.

Wed Apr 25 201223:01Scott Rolen hits first home run in win
Scott Rolen hit his first home run of the season in Wednesday's win over the Giants.
Cincinnati's deteriorating third baseman took Barry Zito deep for a solo shot in the seventh inning, and also drew a walk. A nice night, but hardly enough to overshadow the fact that Rolen is still hitting an abysmal .183/.246/.300 through his first 64 plate appearances. He's not a viable mixed-league option, and is running out of time to prove himself in NL-only formats.

Scott Rolen is not in Thursday's lineup.
The veteran third baseman is batting just .171/.209/.244 in 43 plate appearances this year, and really hasn't made great contact. It's safe to wonder whether he can make it trough the entire 2012 campaign. Todd Frazier is starting at third base Thursday against the Cardinals.

Sat Apr 14 201211:52Rolen to sit out Saturday against Nationals

Sun Apr 8 201210:34Scott Rolen to receive regular days off
Reds manager Dusty Baker plans to give Scott Rolen regular days off in hopes of keeping him healthy.
It makes sense to be proactive, given Rolen's chronic shoulder issues. With Juan Francisco traded, Miguel Cairo and Willie Harris would be used at the hot corner when Rolen isn't playing. Harris has appeared in just 33 games at third in his 11-year career, but he did play there seven games last season for the Mets.

Mon Apr 2 201217:53Rolen doubles in spring finale
Scott Rolen doubled and scored in Monday's win over the Indians.
Rolen will finish his spring hitting .356 with seven extra base hits across 45 at-bats. Healthy after shoulder woes helped limit him to a pathetic .242/.279/.397 line in 2011, Rolen is a must own in NL-only leagues. However, he might not be worth the hassle in 10-12 team mixed leagues thanks to his injury history.

Mon Mar 19 201205:07Rolen smacks first spring homer
Scott Rolen blasted his first home run of the spring -- a three-run, opposite field shot that helped lead Cincinnati over Arizona on Sunday.
The veteran is now 8-for-18 (.444) with three runs scored and five RBI. If we are to believe his oft-ailing shoulder is in great shape, then he will be one of the more under-the-radar 36-year-olds on draft day.
