Wed Mar 14 201219:08Scott Rolen hits another double
Scott Rolen doubled and scored a run Wednesday against the Padres.
The two-bagger came off Padres starter Clayton Richard. Rolen has seven hits -- including three doubles -- in 14 at-bats so far this spring. He insists that his chronically-injured shoulder is in the best shape it's been in for years, though we remain skeptical despite his nice start this spring.

Fri Mar 9 201219:29Scott Rolen ups average to .556
Scott Rolen went 1-for-2 with a run scored and RBI in Friday's win over the Royals.
Attempting to prove he's over the shoulder woes that limited him to an anemic .242/.279/.397 triple slash in 2011, Rolen is five for his first nine this spring (.556). He remains one of the game's bigger injury risks, but is worth a late-round flier in mixed leagues if you plan to go "experimental" at third base this season.

Fri Feb 24 201212:35Scott Rolen feeling good
Scott Rolen said Friday that the range of motion in his oft-injured shoulder is the best it's been in 4-5 years.
Rolen, who turns 37 in April, batted .242/.279/.397 with five homers, 36 RBI and a .676 OPS over 65 games last season while missing most of the year with shoulder woes. It's encouraging that he's feeling good now, but he's a poor bet to remain healthy and productive in 2012. Slated to become a free agent after the season, Rolen wouldn't say whether it would be his last year. "I want to play and contribute and be accountable," he said. "I'm looking pretty much at the present."

Mon Feb 13 201217:20Rolen (shoulder) expected to be 100 for camp
Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Monday that he expects Scott Rolen (shoulder) to be a full-go for spring training.
Rolen underwent left shoulder surgery last August and was shut down in September due to soreness, but he's expected to arrive to camp with no limitations. "I talked to his offseason trainer a 10 days or two weeks ago,'' said Jocketty. "He said Scott is 100 percent and swinging the bat really well." Rolen, who turns 37 in April, batted .242/.279/.397 with five homers, 36 RBI and a .676 OPS over 65 games last season.

Wed Sep 21 201111:33Rolen (shoulder) officially done for season
Scott Rolen (shoulder) said Wednesday that he is officially done for the season.
You know, just in case it wasn't obvious already. Rolen underwent surgery on his left shoulder in August and is still nursing some soreness. He will rest for now before gearing up for next season. The veteran third baseman is still under contract for $6.5 million in 2012.

Sun Sep 11 201110:27Scott Rolen's shoulder still sore
Scott Rolen is still experiencing some soreness in his surgically-repaired left shoulder.
"It's a little tender," trainer Paul Lessard said. "He's way ahead of where he was." Rolen will rejoin the Reds Monday after attending a funeral over the weekend. He hopes to resume batting practice then and is still aiming to return later this season.

Tue Sep 6 201120:05Scott Rolen still hopes to return
Scott Rolen (shoulder) still hopes to make it back later this season.
Rolen felt some soreness the last time he took batting practice, so he shut it down for two days and then had to travel home to Indiana because of a death in the family. "I felt great," he said. "I was swinging great. I felt I was one day away. That's how close I was. But for whatever reason, I came out of batting practice not feeling too good. I took as many swings and as much of workload as I had for a long, long time. I was able to handled it." Even if he makes it back, we're not expecting much out of Rolen at the plate down the stretch.

Mon Aug 8 201123:47Rolen feeling easy movement in shoulder, neck
Scott Rolen said Monday that he is feeling easy movement in his neck and left shoulder for the first time this season.
Rolen underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder last week and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. "I certainly have aspirations of returning this year," said Rolen. "And I think [the Reds] have aspirations of me returning this year, but we're not even a week out of the surgery right now and I have some work to do to get back to the field. I have to strengthen it. Do range of motion stuff." Based on the timeline announced by the team, Rolen is on track to return in early or mid-September. Of course, that's assuming the veteran third baseman doesn't suffer any setbacks.

Wed Aug 3 201114:10Rolen out 4-6 weeks after shoulder surgery
Scott Rolen will miss 4-6 weeks after having arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder.
Rolen has been on the disabled list since July 21 with a strained left shoulder, but it has been affected his performance for far longer. The veteran third baseman is batting just .242/.279/.379 with five homers and .676 OPS over 269 plate appearances this season. Based on this timeline, we won't see him again until early or mid-September. Miguel Cairo should see the majority of the playing time during his absence, but Juan Francisco could be a possibility once he is recovered from a knee injury.

Tue Aug 2 201118:24Rolen to have shoulder examined Wed.
Scott Rolen will have his left shoulder examined by team physician Dr. Tim Kremchek on Wednesday.
We should know more about his status following the examination, but Rolen will not be ready to return from the disabled list when he's eligible Friday. Miguel Cairo and Todd Frazier will continue to share playing time at the hot corner for the time being.

Sat Jul 23 201115:13Scott Rolen 'can't lift shoulder very far'
A report from the Associated Press says that Scott Rolen "can't lift his left shoulder very far."
Rolen landed on the DL Friday due to inflammation in his left shoulder and the left side of his neck. The third baseman has had shoulder problems for years, and this specific issue gave him fits in the second half last season and on two occasions this year. He received injections the first time around to help the malady clear up, but at this time an additional injection is not planned. Rolen said Saturday that he won't swing a bat for a while. A timetable for his return is up in the air.

Fri Jul 22 201118:28Reds place Rolen (shoulder) on disabled list
Reds placed 3B Scott Rolen on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 21, with a strained left shoulder.
Rolen had missed two of the previous three games. He had the same injury when he was placed on the disabled list in late-April, so the lingering soreness is a pretty good explanation for his lousy .242/.279/.397 batting line. Miguel Cairo will make the start at the hot corner Friday, though Todd Frazier figures to get some playing time.

Fri Jul 22 201115:21Rolen back out of the lineup on Friday
Scott Rolen (shoulder) is not in the Reds' Friday evening lineup against the Braves.
Miguel Cairo will start in his place. Not a good sign after Rolen returned to the lineup on Wednesday after sitting out two games. It's quite possible a trip to the disabled list is looming.

Wed Jul 20 201109:27Rolen (shoulder) expected to return Wed.
Scott Rolen (shoulder) is expected to return to the Reds' lineup Wednesday.
Rolen was held out of the lineup for the past two days in order to rest his sore left shoulder. "It's gonna be [sore]," said Reds manager Dusty Baker. "It's gonna be probably until he retires." Hardly encouraging words from the Reds' skipper, but also a dose of reality. Rolen, 36, is batting just .242 with five homers and a .678 OPS in 265 plate appearances this season. It's been tough to get production out of third base this season, particularly in the National League, but Rolen's days of relevancy in mixed leagues are quickly dwindling.

Sun Jul 10 201118:56Rolen replaces Polanco as in A-S game
Scott Rolen replaced Placido Polanco as starting third baseman on the National League All-Star Team.
There weren't many great options this year at the hot corner in the National League. David Wright and Ryan Zimmerman have been plagued with injuries all season, and Chipper Jones had knee surgery this weekend.

Mon Jun 13 201120:38Rolen scratched with sore left foot
Scott Rolen was a late scratch from Monday's lineup against the Dodgers due to a sore left foot.
The injury occurred when Rolen fouled a ball of his left foot during Sunday's game. "I'm not dead and it's not broken," said Rolen. "But it happened in the second inning yesterday and I had to stand out on it for three hours. I'll be pretty hobbling on it." Miguel Cairo will start in his place at the hot corner and bat sixth against right-hander Hiroki Kuroda.
